Hey, this video is very helpful. I have one question though. I want to replace my optical drive with a new SSD. I currently have a 750GB HDD. I want to use the SSD specifically and only for the software (OSX Lion and all the Applications) and the HDD for all my files. Do I have to backup all the files from the HDD to an external drive, format the HDD (I mean deleting the OS) and then put the files back on it? Or should I leave it as it is with no problem? Thank you in advance :)
@stlallstar I have the newest 2011 model with the i7. The one I put in has a read and write speed of about 250MB/s. The one that comes with apple is only about 97MB/s
I'm looking around for an SSD in my macbook pro for a while now. I looked up the caddy/optibay on the MCE website, but the shipment equals almost the price of the product. Now I'm wondering if the caddies sold on ebay are as good as this one over here? These sold on ebay are definitely cheaper, as well as the shipment. It's about one third the prize.
@Q852 hard to say since i used the optibay one. I mean, it worked great for me, so if they are cheap enough, no harm in trying it out. just make sure they specifically say they are for your generation macbook
@optikalefxx thanks for the reply, but do you really recommend the vertex 2? i'm so confused what is the best SSD for my macbook pro, some say a lot about vertex 2 and some say it dies fast sometimes in couple days
@ameer4ever I've been using ever since i made this video and i couldn't be happier. Its easily double the speed of the apple stock one. I was getting about 40 to 50 mb read on the old apple one, and this one is getting over 120, on a day to day use. thats incredible.

Did you get the USB 2.0 enclosure? And how much is the price with and without that USB 2.0 enclosure? Thanks in advance. ;)

I read somewhere (Anandtech maybe?) that third party SSDs sometimes have compatibility problems with the MBP, have you run into any problems?

@dojiijii Nope. It's been a dream come true for me

so how much does it weight after that?
the original weight is 5.6 pounds, that would be interesting if it would be much lighter
good idea replace both 500g hdd and optical drive to 120g ssd?
tks
