  • Hey optikalefxx, which generation is your Mac and what's the difference between the drive you installed and the one that came with it?

  • @stlallstar I have the newest 2011 model with the i7. The one I put in has a read and write speed of about 250MB/s. The one that comes with apple is only about 97MB/s

  • @stlallstar now a days the new OCZ vertex 3 drives are over 500MB/s read and write speeds.

  • If I only have a HDD and got a new SSD, do u suggest putting which in the optical drive place and which at the old HDD place? Thanks

  • what its the maximum ssd that i can put on the place whrere its located the optical drive? macbook pro 13 inch 2011 i5.Can i put 160gb ssd?250gb

  • Did you enable Trim support or it auto enabled it for you?

  • Nice tutorial!

I'm looking around for an SSD in my macbook pro for a while now. I looked up the caddy/optibay on the MCE website, but the shipment equals almost the price of the product. Now I'm wondering if the caddies sold on ebay are as good as this one over here? These sold on ebay are definitely cheaper, as well as the shipment. It's about one third the prize.

    Any advice?

    Thx!

  • @Q852 hard to say since i used the optibay one. I mean, it worked great for me, so if they are cheap enough, no harm in trying it out. just make sure they specifically say they are for your generation macbook

  • @optikalefxx Thx! I'll give it a try!

  • Did you get the USB 2.0 enclosure? And how much is the price with and without that USB 2.0 enclosure? Thanks in advance. ;)

  • too fast!

  • I read somewhere (Anandtech maybe?) that third party SSDs sometimes have compatibility problems with the MBP, have you run into any problems?

  • @dojiijii Nope. It's been a dream come true for me

  • so how much does it weight after that?

the original weight is 5.6 pounds, that would be interesting if it would be much lighter

good idea replace both 500g hdd and optical drive to 120g ssd?

    tks

  • is this the MCE OptiBay or one of the chinese ones?

  • @abrabereabra MCE optbay is correct

  • Nice video,

What is the old SSD brand or model number?

I'm so curious to know what is the standard SSD's that ships in MacBook Pros

  • @ameer4ever I didn't read the model NO, but it was a toshiba 128 gig drive.

  • @optikalefxx thanks for the reply, but do you really recommend the vertex 2? i'm so confused what is the best SSD for my macbook pro, some say a lot about vertex 2 and some say it dies fast sometimes in couple days

  • @ameer4ever I've been using ever since i made this video and i couldn't be happier. Its easily double the speed of the apple stock one. I was getting about 40 to 50 mb read on the old apple one, and this one is getting over 120, on a day to day use. thats incredible.

  • I really like all of your videos dude !!. It really awesome.

I am living in Thailand. Feel free to contact me if you come here.

  • @7715z I'm gonna disagree. Just big hands.

  • @optikalefxx maybe :P

  • Another very nice tutorail bro, You're the best!
