Fantastic!!! Being an obsessive Waits fan I always find it interesting to see peoples covers, yet Tom Waits impersonators I find almost embarrassing to watch. This isn't like that at all and I think you have done a really interesting cover, you've maintained that real sense of dreariness in the original whilst adding your own artistic flair! I love the anonymous lighting set up too, it works beautifully. Being a musician I find videos like this really inspirational, and a breath of fresh air.
very nice indeed. the keyboard sound is a great alternative. i think you may have the same problem as me when performing this - to tom waits vocally or to not tom waits vocally. its tempting to rasp but difficult to pull off. you make a good job of it though...'the whole lot of whiskey' line is just such a good one to sing from the heart.
Tom's version is so visceral, even though I never try to imitate him, when you try to stay true to the spirit of the song, that rasp seems to sneak in on its own. The fact that it was late at night & I'd had a few G&Ts in a smoky bar adds to it, too.
You are such an artist in every way! Everything you touch is gold. Even your 'information box' to the left is a little work of art. You should be writging books too. Are you?
Great video, fantastic vocals, sweeeeeeeeeeet playing and BRAVO!
(The video stuck at 4:12 after an hour of downloading! But I like what I heard!) I love these slow bluesy-jazzy songs too. And the vocals are really nice. 5*****
I hope you get to hear the rest sometime. I think "Blue Valentine" was the 1st Tom Waits album I ever heard, and this is one of the most heart-wrenching lyrics I've ever encountered.
It's one thing to wallow in self-pity over the pain of your own heartbreak; It's another thing to be wrapped up in guilt for causing someone else's.
@Unit3325 - Thanks muchly! Look for another Waits cover later this month!

Tom has written so many wonderful songs; there are a few more I may get around to covering.

Thank you, Dearest Diana!!
You may want to re-visit the info box: I added some notes on the props in the tableau.
I'll compose the occasional poem or lyric, but have no plans to publish prose. ;-)
Thanks so much for your sweet words.
