i love roppongi. i have had some great times there but the thing I HATE more than anything are the black people hustling you into the clubs. i was there with my girlfriend and i did not feel safe at all walking down the street at night. these people would leer and act aggressive towards us for no reason. also its sad the police are so ineffective.

Amen, I work in Security and there are fights all the time here, random stabbings and loads more Korean and Chinese Mafia these days, Saturday morning we had a knife incident outside my club which started between Chinese, Japanese and Me.. it was fucked. When you work at night here you see the shitty part of Japanese life- Forigeners marrying for visas and bringing guns and drugs here.. many are like fucking parasites!

well, as a foreigner who spent most of my adult life in japan, including weekend binges in Roppongi, I agree that 95% of the foreigners in Japan aren't troublemakers. but when a foreigner causes trouble its a lot more magnified. Japan was a closed, isolated society for many years before Admiral Perry's 'Great White Fleet' forcefully introduced western influence. couple that with the fact that Japan is pretty homogeneous ethnically I'm not too surprised that misconceptions about 'gaijin' exist.

Tokyo is definitely one of the safest major cities in the world, but I've just seen many fights in Roppongi and I don't even go there very much. Went last on my birthday (Dec 8) and there were two fights in the bar I was in. Almost a third fight because some drunk Aussie threatened to kill me and smash my $3000 camera for taking a picture of his friend who was pushing around some Japanese staff. Use to have fun in there, but not anymore.

Ive been in Japan 6 times and I live here now as a permenat resident.

I have only seen like 2 fights in my life.

But the one i saw outside Gaspanic in Shibuya was quite hardcore, acutaly scared me a bit.

But over all its very safe. Fights only seem to happend outside dirty hangouts like Gaspanic or other gaijinclubs in Roppongi.

I would say that most of the gaijins in Japan behave very well. 95% are not even fighters.
