As weird as it may sound, our debt to China actually has its benefits in regards to our relationship to China and the future of US's success. Its called sticky power. The US has been in debt since the country started in 1776, not for 1 day in all these years have we not been in debt. Look where we are now. What to do? Since fed taxes are the lowest in a long time, raise them to Reagan-era rates. Long term, figure out how to lower medical costs by fighting the grug companies, insurance companies, HMOs and professional cartels. As far as cutting unnecessary spending, everyone says that and no one knows what they mean. Ask for specificsa, and they always zero in on diddly shit that amounts to 0.1% of the problem.

You talk smart for a dumb guy. You forgot one thing: the biggest factor in the short term deficit, right now, is that the economy is weak and has been for several years. If it doesn't get better we're done for, and reducing government spending doesn't strengthen the economy, it weakens it. The biggest factor in the long term deficit is that medical costs per capita are twice as high in the US.

As weird as it may sound, our debt to China actually has its benefits in regards to our relationship to China and the future of US's success. Its called sticky power. The US has been in debt since the country started in 1776, not for 1 day in all these years have we not been in debt. Look where we are now. Not saying being in debt is a good thing, it's just not necessarily a horrible thing.

And no, a certain amount of debt is not a bad thing...it's just what kind of debt you have and how much your investments are going to return. You're part right on the sticky power in regards to China, but the weaker the economy gets here (wait till the baby boomers come for their SS), the less that sticky power there will be. The Debt Clock is ticking!
