This is a cownosed ray and clipping will not kill it but it is against the law unless you intend on keeping. There alot of people that do this and what they do not realize is the barb is intended to protect itself from prey, mainly sharks. We venture into there world so if we get hit in the calf by a stingray barbit is our fault. I have been wade fishing for over 30 years and have never been hit.

In the Baja gulf, there is an extremely large population of bat and "sting" rays.
If you cook it right, it's edible, if not desired.
There is also coastal schools of Yellow Tail.
