The 137 million in 1920 was for Russia alone, while the 197 million in 1941 was for the much bigger Soviet Union, wich included the 40 million ukranians, and other republics.
In fact only in 1979 the Russian (not soviet) population has reached the 137 million again, almost 60 years later.

I do think this documentary uses the terms communism and socialism (even marxism) very loosely. Stalinism isn't really marxist if you compare the two.
Actually the German Democratic Republic was formed as a response to the western occupied zones starting their own currency. Something that caused massive economic setback in the eastern part of Germany. The Soviet position had always been that of a unified and neutral Germany.

Eisenhower decided to surround the passage to the Alps instead to avoid an escape and the Russians stabbed everyone in the back with their occupation afterward.

@wookieinheat The reason isn't because he felt betrayed. Trust me, Stalin couldn't care less about Hitler, Germany, or any other country in Europe. He was using Hiter so that when he ultimately invaded Germany, he would have to fight only them, so that he could take over all of Europe, which was the plan.
Had it not been for Hitler, there would've been no Europe. All of it would've been a "people's republic." And the normandy invasion may very well have been against the USSR.

Stalin was obviously "evil" by western standards and is very difficult to defend, BUT the Brits and Americans were lucky the Soviets had a leader strong enough to fight back the Nazi hordes. The US always had almost twice the population despite the fact that we have half the land mass and much less agricultural land and even less natural resources. After 1991 the Russian population fell because fundamental freedoms where restored after the fall of communism including the freedom to travel. Communism is abnormal in every way.

The 137 million in 1920 was for Russia alone, while the 197 million in 1941 was for the much bigger Soviet Union, wich included the 40 million ukranians, and other republics.
In fact only in 1979 the Russian (not soviet) population has reached the 137 million again, almost 60 years later.
More than 60 million people died as a direct consequence of the communist rule in the USSR.

Actually the German Democratic Republic was formed as a response to the western occupied zones starting their own currency. Something that caused massive economic setback in the eastern part of Germany. The Soviet position had always been that of a unified and neutral Germany.
It's also typical for an anti-Communist to applaud Hitlers anti-Communist effords. I guess gulags are bad, but when Communists get send to worse places it's all good and well.

Say what you want about Stalin - the fact remains that he saved us from Hitler and won the Second world war. 9 out of 10 German soldiers that died in the Second world war died in Russia - killed by Russians or members of the USSR. While Britain and the US hid out in Africa and other parts of the world - The Russians took it to the Wehrmacht and chased them back to Berlin.

Russia was saved twice from massive invasion because of weather. The British and Americans also chased Germans out of Italy and France all the way to Berlin. The Americans got to Berlin first but let the Russians have their way for pay back. As evil as he was Hitler was right about one thing "to rid Europe of communism".

The Americans reached the Elbe three weeks before the Russians, within a few hours distance of Berlin and with better equipment and better possibilities of taking Berlin within hours instead of days. Eisenhower decided to surround the passage to the Alps instead to avoid an escape and the Russians stabbed everyone in the back with their occupation afterward.

Eisenhower decided leave Berlin it to the Russians in order to avoid diplomatic issues and to honor agreements made in Yalta; but it back fired into something worse - soviet occupation of half of Germany. Eisenhower decided instead, 3 weeks before, to cut off the Germans from fleeing to higher ground (the Alps) so he diverted his army South and left Berlin to the Russians. It was the fact that he had the capacity to see that he had to give his Generals field command in order to make real time combat decisions that allowed them to stay on the offensive after the Wehrmacht began to retreat. The initial loses at the start were unfortunate but mostly unavoidable.

And many of these real victors of the war was later sent to sibiria because Stalin tought they go to much honor for what they did. Many of the russian prisoners where also sent to sibiria and other places for treason even though it was Stalin's incompetence that made them prisoners

The vaccuum left after these socialist revolutions and the need to regain control of the people and economic issues is the perfect incubator for what a power hungry leader needs to clench absolute power as Dictator. It is virtually inevitable in a type of govt. that requires central planning on the scale that communism does.

That is even neglecting the fact that many much better historical sources on Stalin, first hand sources oppose the very first notion of the 'documentary' which is that Stalin was power hungry. As can be read in his letters to Molotov.

@zeruzo2 and many other first hand sources. Thats even neglecting the fact that the collectivization was not done in a forced manner thanks to 'Stalin' or even the central commitee. This was something done by local cadres which was later rectified as you can read in Stalins speech 'dizzy with success' available online. Anyway in short i'd recommend 'Another view of Stalin' by Ludo Martens for a good starters on the topic. Cause this 'documentary' is bollocks.

@gusanomarielito remember that Stalin was an omnipotent being, perhaps an incarnation of the Hindu deity Vishnu, who had full awareness of everything going on in the Soviet Union and total control over every occurrence which took place between 1924 and 1953. Everything that occurred during that time was the will of Stalin.

Stalin knew the exact details of every criminal case that took place during that era and out of his boundless cruelty, had tons of innocent people shot for no reason regardless of where they were or their position in life. Being omnipotent, he was not dependent on information passed up from tens of thousands of subordinates.

@attractivue Nor is it proven that that many ppl died of state policy, but there something like a pesky little war from '41 - '45 in which some crazy ass death troops were following the Whermacht, who exterminated a lot of eastern European in some crazy ass notion that they were unworthy of live and all. I love how this documentary just brushes over how horrific Romanov rule was in Russia. Where did the idea for the Cheka, NKVD and Cheka come from? Why from the Okhrana... which spied on university students and executed protesters and dissidents. Stolypin's neck-tie... Look it up on Wikipedia.

It was not as much collectivized as it was rather collected by force, in the form of theft and deception, in order to take the stolen grain and minerals to Moscow, with the forced labor and sacrifice of millions of Ukranians. The Soviet philosophy was really "The hell with you and get out of my way; give me your goods the people (of Moscow)".

@VoxJoxx Actually, your assimilation is backwards. There is more population today because of WWI and WWII. It is a known fact that after big wars there is more reproduction. It's a survival instinct that goes by unnoticed. Hence the "Baby Boomers". During mass genocide populations rise much faster in multiples. So the answer to your question is: The more over population exists today because of the genocide of Hitler and Stalin. Other factors also contribute but this is one of them. Do you agree?
