JFK's Civil Rights speech was one of the greatest speeches given by a president.

By classifying the issue as a moral issue, and asking the then majority to stand in the shoes of a Negro (term used prior to the later '60s) before they complain about Blacks moving to fast, he pushed America to come to terms w/it's own values..."and this country, for all it's hopes and all it's boasts, will not be truly free until all of it's citizens are truly free."

There was a clear break down in communication here between the Federal Government and the States. However, Kennedies over reach of the states this day is only as good as the good president in office, when the same over reach is available to criminals who usurp the office of president like we presently have, then this over reach is not at all good. It is my guess that Wallace did not get the memo. On June 4, 1963 Kennedy put forth EO11110, which was an attempt to strip the Federal Reserve of its power to loan money at interest. Then on June 11, 1963 he issued presidential proclamation 3542. Kennedy was attempting to put this country back together. My guess is Wallace did not get the memo on ED11110. Had Wallace understood what JFK was up to he would not have continued to be in the Federal governments way.way.

Kennedy stood up for what was right. Wallace stood up for the old Alabama electoral race card. Wallace would later claim he wasn't a rascist. What he didn't say was he was happy to play to that sentiment when it meant electoral advantage. Kennedy acted with principle. Wallace failed the test of leadership. He spent the rest of his life trying to pretend he was wasn't a bigot over his remarks about 'segregation for ever'.

The Governor of Alabama . . one George Wallace . . went AWOL on his responsibilities. Wallace liked playing the electoral race card more than facing up to his responsibilities . . i.e. seeing that any body entitled to enter the university, regardless of race, could do so. In is delinquency Wallace also also thumbed his nose at the ruling of an Alabama Court, often forgotten. Kennedy did what Wallace lacked the balls to do.
