  • I'm a huge Queen fan, but this outfit, much like Fleetwood Mac, does not have to stand back for ANY band. Let's not fight, because these are all GREAT groups.

  • @ALFAVILLIA I agree, with ELO it was mainly about the music but on the flip side bands like Queen and the Beatles took an incredible amount of flak in the media. That is until members of those groups died before their time and then the media seemed to deify the same people they debased for so many years. The price of 'fame'...

  • cool video,Yes,Jeff-you cutted ELO in 86,we hear this timless music also in 2011.Reunion ELO!!! with JEFF LYNNE

  • MUY BUEN MATERIAL

  • who is this Bruce they sing of?

  • NHL 12

  • Very cool.

  • love the guy they drag down, at the 5:03 mark ... right of center, from the stage! .... lol ..... looks like he fell off backwards ...... ouch!!!

  • @frizzlefrap No chance to take. He could have hurt Mr. Lynn.

  • I'd love to go to their concert

  • Love the fact that this song is in the cinema, woop woop for Super 8! also Jeffs singing a song in a Buddy Holly cover album which is getting released in September :D

  • ELO? ....you can stop an Elien race invasion from another galaxy with their sound and tune even get them to bounce back to where they came from singing Mr. Blue Sky ! ! ! ...rock on ...for ever ! ! ! any prase is way down beneth their talent... (that felt gooood, been waiting 35 years to say that...no net on Jupiter !)

  • I wud rank 10 top bands ever like this: 1. Queen 2. The Beatles 3. The Who 4. Creedence 5. ELO 6. Moody Blues 7. Yes 8. The Band 9. Green Day 10.
  • @TheMacciz You forgot Zeppelin and Hendrix. ;)

  • @Themeparkfanman I'm so sorry! I love Hendrix too but here I was only naming bands but I forgot about Jimi Hendrix Experience :) actually I don't know about Led Zep I don't like many of their songs...not enough to put them in my top 10 anyway, maybe top 20 :)

  • @TheMacciz Don't worry it's your list (and a good one at that). But I never like to choose best or favorites so I always end up listing all the bands I like, which is somewhere in the hundreds. :)

  • im sorry, i love Elo. but why did drummers have to limit their talents so much? i consider his "drum solo" a 'rusty, i haven't played in 3 weeks, warm up."

  • Jeff Is a god to me I was at 6 ELO gigs from 1976 to 1980 they were the best of the prog pop thing and the laser shows were TFM.It was a time when a band had ot be good and realy know haw to play live.ELO 4ever!!!!!!

  • That's spectacular show!!!!

  • Bev Bevan was really having fun here!

  • Security did a great job there at the end, catching that guy on the edge of the stage before he could get to Jeff. :-)

  • It is great to revisit this posting. An ELO song always makes me smile. THIS is what music is supposed to be about, not Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga rubbish.

  • Hey, did Jeff Lynn write The Travelling Wilbury songs?

  • @mkl8000 He co-wrote them.

  • thanks for this prfound download, yea!

  • Jeff <3

  • ELO and Jeff Lynne ROCKS!!!

  • One of the favorite songs of Kurt Cobain.

  • Yeah they're very underated but not as good as Queen. Queen is impeccable.

  • Fantastic! Hope you don't mind but I've added this video to my own channel mattgough917.

I remember watching this on TV and being so thrilled to see them live again. Later that year I saw them at Wembley stadium 'supporting' Rod stewart. The crowd were a bi6yt lukewarm at the start but by the end they were wild and stole the show from Rod. A bit like this one where they stole it fom The Moody Blues. Fab!

  • @wjb85 queen just pulled off more singles and hits that were more popular in terms of the charts.

  • Be a man not an mouse, pulling your cock it's f@#$% grouse. mouse rhythms with grouse its old kiwi slang for cool. It's grouse mate!

  • @JesusChristsuxCocks Seriously, do have nothing better to do??? Why don't you go on back to jr high where you obviously belong, you little twit!

  • Blinding tune ----- will live forever.

  • Awesome, except for the shitty bass player.

  • You did an excellent job! You are making an old Dutch fan very happy.Peace to you all.

  • Haha, Jeff lynne is like a white Phil Lynott

  • ~sigh~ Nobody could play that Goldtop like Jeff. It's as if it was made *just* for him. I wonder if he takes it down off the wall every now and then?

  • @no1elofaniknow Probably would if he could find the Hard Rock it's hagin' in! #LOL

  • @technocrash09 Actually, techno, Lynne still has that guitar. It's hanging on a wall in his recording studio in his home in Beverly Hills, CA.

  • you can hear the accent in the crowd so hard!!!

  • I guess there were 3 major things learned the day of this show: 1) Jeff Lynne IS a GREAT guitarist, 2) Jeff Lynne can really work the crowd when he really wants to, and 3) ya don't wanna take the stage after ELO.

  • @falcon2160 It was never "gross". Gross means something disgusting. It's "groos" which is German for "greetings", even though Jeff Lynne originally threw it in there as gibberish filler. Of course ELO fans thought they were hearing "Bruce" on the radio, and at live shows the fans would sing "Bruce" at the top of their lungs. Lynne would try to sing "groos", but after awhile he gave up, saying "OK, (screw) it, I'll sing Bruce."

  • @no1elofaniknow It also could be interpreted as grouse, which is a bird. Bird of course is british slang for a very hot woman, or as we say in America--Hot Chick!

  • Does anyone agree the name they utter after the refrain is "Bruce" , not "gross" as some think? Just curious.

  • @falcon2160 That's what I always thought....never seen the actual lyrics, tho' so......who knows. jeff Lynne is a mysterious cat.....He might use a different word every time just to keep it "mysterious"

  • It was an amazing set - as I remember it when ELO came on everybody in the crowd got to their feet after sitting through the earlier bands.

Always loved the guitar solo on this.

  • Jop ey wie geil iss das denn ?? Good music , lets go on ............ das geht immernoch vol ab !

  • I wish they would reform, including Jeff Lynne

  • 1984-1986. Three years of the 80's that delivered OUTSTANDING music from outfits like Scorpions, A-HA, Alphaville, U2, Petshop Boys, Depeche Mode, Dire Straits, Queen, Level 42, Nik Kershaw, and Big Country, and many more.

  • 1986, a pivotal year in history. Challenger disaster, Halley's comet, peak of the cold war, digital replaces vinyl, electronic fuel injection, could go on and on. It's great to see music like this to keep it all alive.

  • good twelve bar blues song

  • GREAT

  • Wow, did they really play it this fast?

  • E.L.O. are brilliant, no question. I've always considered them a sort of guilty pleasure — a band that the world doesn't think deserves that sort of respect. If that's true, then it's the world that are wrong.

Looking forward to Jeff's new album! Cool news, that.

  • I've never understood why ELO seem to be so underrated. They're easliy as good as a band like Queen in many respects but don't seem to get as much recognition. Eagerly anticipating the new Jeff Lynne solo album when it ultimately arrives...and tour if there is one!

  • You're making a correlation between worth and fame, or talent and success, and they are not 1:1 be careful

  • @wjb585 I have always thought that they are one of best bands ever and that has never changed! Everyone who knows a bit about music loves ELO imo! Epic songs for eternity!

  • @wjb585 Hi

Big time ELO fan but they are no where near as great as Queen--Queen albums have the element of so many types of music and personalities. I agree they are very underrated

  • @kaydollaz89ds7 Hey, yes Queen are great. I don't like to compare music because despite similarities it's like comparing apples and oranges. I just feel that ELO deserve greater recognition and not to be criminally referred as a 'guilty pleasure'. I listen all the time and don't feel guilty at all! Cheers.

  • @wjb585 Better than Queen.

  • @wjb585 Unlike Queen, ELO had over 20 members in the line up (obviously not all at once) which contributed to the inability to gain momentum as a 'band". Essentially, Jeff Lynne was the creative force behind many of the studio albums and subsequent recent releases.

  • Watching this brilliant masterpiece of a performance by Mr Lynne and the Orchestra, still to this day confounds me as to why they did not appear at Live Aid in '85. They would have rocked the stadium, much the same way Queen and the Quo did !

  • great voice.

  • cool arse. Ps MrReymoclif is a tosser!

  • Holy fuck, I love their music~

  • Bevan Rocks!

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • This is a text comment. It is not a futile and empty shot into cyberspace that will never be seen again.

  • If you can't say something nice, then do not say anything at all. Where have i heard that before? 1 complaint,i don't like it when they take a nice song and make it uptempo,i really hate it when the STONES do it.

  • This summer is gonna be a great one for JL fans...

  • Why? what's up?

  • Expect official news very soon. New Jeff album....COMING SOON!

  • @mattroxx89 SOON??? when is soon. why are we still waiting. C'mon Jeff, get your finger out and release something, anything will do!!

  • @mattroxx89 and still we all wait sadly

  • wow. great sound and performance!!!

  • I love the Moodies but how did they ever think they could top this. It's the best version of this song available with a great solo and don't you just love that final crunching chord right at the end!!!

  • This is a version on its own. It would be incredibly DIFFICULT and quite frankly unfair to expect ELO to even ATTEMPT to redo the original version. It would be like expecting Queen to reperform the EXACT version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Fellow You Tubers, these songs were very very DIFFICULT to compose AND sing. THAT is why we should always cherish the original versions. They are rare gems !

  • Blew the Moodies off the stage! What kicks ass here is Lynne dropped the disco beat and plays DBMD as a pure rock and roll song.

  • The song is don't bring me down and here you all are saying how bad it is hahahaha

  • Grrooss

  • As great as ever and some boss drums.

  • class act

  • Absolute Genius. It would be great if ELO did a memorial concert for Kelly.

  • Nowhere else on Youtube can you see so many fucking moronic comments in such a short space:

It's actually a pretty good live version though you have to compensate for the pretty poor sound quality. It obviously wasn't filmed and recorded for broadcast.

I don't hear any strings (in fact their violinist is playing a keyboard) I hear only Jeff's Brummie accent and as for bgrocock99's comment....what ARE you saying!!!! Band's shouldn't perform their songs live?

  • Comment removed

  • 'dude' go away and read my comment again. It's nothing about music and it's nothing about the video. Its about the dipshit morons who make stupid comments that are irrelevant to the posting. Now add yourself to that list. I cant believe you can so massively misread and misunderstand what I said. Fucksake it was only seven lines long!!!!

  • Actually this was the first song that didn't use strings. It was all synths after this time.

  • I know, my comment about strings was an outburst regarding some twatty earlier comments. For years I thought there was a sort of cello solo at the bridge but I listened to it again recently and realised it was a synth

  • lmao! Too true

  • Great but at 3:30 when he starts trying to emulate Lennon's accent I have to turn it off.

  • Idiot!! Lynne often did accents. He did a good cockney accent too. He's a vocalist. Vocalists do that sort of thing. As well as being a great musician and producer.

  • Up y'arse, Maxine.

  • Just PHENOMENAL !!!!!!!!

  • Glad to see Jeff Lynne so relaxed. He discusses with the audience. And that complicated "Bruce, grrosss" section.

Jeff knows that everyone wants to hear Bruce thought it was originally grrosss.

    Well so be it !

  • Expecting this version to sound like the original would be unfair, a bit like expecting Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" to sound the same during every concert. Some songs can never be imitated, such were their uniqueness, hence them being classics. ELO is legendary. Forever a Jeff Lynne fan.

  • the muts nuts

  • brilliant wish they would play live again

  • leave it.

    never mess with a hit.......

Macca said" You cannot you cannot re heat a souflee>

splelt wrong, but leave hard rock and strings totally seperate

    these guys KNOW!

  • usain bolt 19.19 is god

  • Yep, so are steroids and blood doping in pro sports, someone will eventually beat him and we will call him amazing then forget about him, and so on..... and that is completely unrelated to this....

  • This song has a sweet intro

  • Man Bev sure does pick up a monster of a beat live. This song could've been a masterpeice with strings. Oh, well.

  • with strings????? i think its perfect the way it is.......i mean dont you think strings woulld've been a bit odd in this song lol.......well every gets there opinion. now they did use strings in ummmmm do ya, and it worked there.

  • Jeff's new record is coming along nicely, from what I'm told. It should be out late this year, or very early 2010.

  • gruss is used as part of a common greeting in southern germany.

  • it means gruss, it´s german and is "Hello"

  • kickass!

  • groos not gruce. I have no Idea what it means...

  • Sounds very surfer beat. Nice live version.

  • For some strange reason, I thought Cheap Trick did this song.

  • Love this song so much! And uhhh... who's Bruce?

  • It's actually "Gruce," but so many people misunderstood, they changed the lyrics to "Bruce."

  • How come this hasn't been released on video?

  • They performed a complete concert set of 16 songs that should be sold on DVD for profit and benefit The Children Hospital in Birmingham. ELO fans would love to get their hands on a complete concert from this time period. Why this hasn't happened is anyone's guess?

  • the theme song of the hong kong sevens! i was there!

  • Wish I'd been there. Thanks for posting. I love Jeff 'n' Bev.

  • Oh my goodness I was there!!!!! absolutely unforgettable day, all Birmingham bands, have loved the Jeffmeister for years now,I can make myself available, he just needs to say the word.....

  • Comment removed

  • who the fuck is that dopey shit who took kellys place, m8 fk off

  • That would be Martin Smith, he was in the band for the duration of the tour.....Kelly twidled his thumbs

  • bev bevan on drums,am i right?

  • great drum solo at the beginning!

  • because their aren't any violins in the song?

  • why is the violinist on the kb ?? ;S

  • brilliant group,gr8 song

  • que putería de version en vivo

  • Thanks so much for uploading this. Great show. I would love to see Livin thing, Turn To Stone and Calling America from this show!

  • ELO ranks in the Top 40 bands of all time, in my book. It is talent personified and could give any of today's bands a serious lesson in music.

  • brilliant.

  • I''m very impressed by this.

Sloppy, fun, audience participation, good cause,Jeff actually enjoying the occasion.

You know,if everybody who has seen this video clip bothered to see Jeff tour Zoom,he might now be inspired to get off his lazy ass and do something else!.

  • I would put Lynne alongside John Lennon and Pete Townsend and the like, one of the most imaginative music innovators of all time.

  • Anyone who doubts ( Mr ) Jeff Lynne's versatility after watching this clip is crazy or quite frankly, knows nothing about music. Fuck, that drummer rocks, Lynne rocks, the audience rocks, the rest of ELO band members rock. You can see they were having a great time. Wish I was there, not to be alas, I was only 12 in

    1986 ...

  • good song, good video. good man and just good everything

  • don't bring me down....jay bruce

    Go Reds

  • Why this band did not play at Live Aid '85 defies all logic. They ROCK !!

  • I'll answer this while I wait for this to download a bit...

By 1985 they were a spent force. Last decent album was Time in '81. Lynne was clearly getting bored. Sales were down. But despite IMHO being one of the best bands ever, they were, like Abba, despised by the cognoscenti despite (or because of) their popularity. By '85 they just weren't really "there" anymore.

But I'm glad they are having a bit of a rennaissance. Cos it means I was right all along.

  • omg didnt know the drummer was so hot

  • Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruce

  • Great Compilation. Bev Bevans drums were just awesome. I played in a support band ( many years ago ) with ELO and was knocked bloody sidewise with Bev's drumming. ELO for ever !

  • Great solo. Wish the studio version had so much bite!! Thanks for posting it. I've always loved that crunching final chord right at the end.

  • i wish i had had the chance to see elo live but i was only 6 so i didn't know them back then i wouldn't have minded see mr jeff lynne haha

  • SSIICCKKK!!! video 2:30 is awesome, look at the guy's neck!!

  • This song is awesome!

  • Thaught this was a status quo number, suits them more imo. But ok, learned something today!!!

  • why is the violin man playing keyboard =/

  • OMG, I SOOOOO NEED TO SHOW MY DAD THIS!!!(he's 49) i looovvveee ELO!!!

  • NICE FREAKING GUITAR

  • Audio quality is bad. I know, there is a HQ version, but why not include this HQ version in the playlist instead of the poor quality?

  • that's what i'm sayin', whiterottrabb! ditch this in normal audio it's a waste of time once you've seen and heard the HQ

  • a guy jumped on the stage at the last second...lol

  • nice toon

  • liberty-don't bring me down.

  • Brilliant song.

  • awesome song!

    oldies R.O.C.K!

  • amazing song!!! respect 4 ELO

  • 2:28, That dude is rockin' out

  • i wish i would have been alive 2 see this...

  • You and Me Both

  • When did you die?

  • lol! nice...

  • Good people never die.

  • 5/5

  • that drum solo makes me proud to be a rock fan

  • Sounds a lot like Money (That's What I Want) by The Beatles, don't ye think?

  • Yeah, but much much better

  • Thank you SO much for posting this! I've been searching to get a hold of this concert over the years...but had completely forgotten about it until, by chance, I found this. Great concert.

  • To all the brain dead that watch MTV nowadays and worship the so called performers of today, ELO is a prime example of what it is to be PERFORMERS. I don't see the brain dead masses of today getting involved with, again, these so called artists that MTV and the music industry shovels out each day.
