what samples does he use for vocal samples like... when a crowd yells "yeah" or a lady saying "you know what" I cant think of what song its in right now but he uses it a lot.
this is the main reason sampling is cool... but strict sampling laws have really limited our creativity as producers... but WE will KEEP sampling!!! we cant be stopped!!! its in our blood!!! and too all the old artists that hate sampling? ur preventing ur music from bein rediscovered by the youth, and popular again... think about what ur doin b4 dismissing sampling as stealing... most of us arent even making a worthy dollar off ur music.... just something to think about.
CHAMPION IS A STEELY DAN SAMPLE?!?! DAMN THATS PRETTY DOPE. Kanyes an amazing artist, i hope to be half as good as him one day and I hope to know half as much about music as you one day Funktuall. Props for the video.
Kanye is dope and all but he just takes a loop and got professional's playing instruments around it etc......unlike J-Dilla and 9th wonder who strictly use only the sample
@PdubzCrew dawg, yes its true that he uses pro musician and all, but dude samples like crazy man, and i mean that in an amazing way!! he does the drums and samples, sampling is difficult man, i myself make soulful beats using beautiful samples, and its hard man

It's nice you can show these kids in a nice way and 100% proof way that they are listening to sampled songs. Most people older people tell kids in a negative way.
Great job. Our kids need to know some history to get their minds working ..
I Love your sample videos...been watching them for awhile now...Just Blaze was the actual producer for the Curtis Mayfield joint and the only guest producer to be on that album except for Jon Brion who helped Kanye most likely with the piano sounds. He also taught kanye how to use the Roland TR-808 which led to his 808 album.
@MrBIGkilla45 I already am. Students are spread out worldwide and they may come and go as they please. Far better chance of making an impact on the world this way. Regular teacher is stuck with same 30 kids a year. I do that in ONE DAY!
Firstly props to you DJ Funktual, just found your videos yesterday and I've watched almost half of them already.
I would just like to say that Phillip Mitchell's 'If We Can't Be Lovers' which was used to make 'Everything I am' is probably my favorite Kanye sample, just butter.
do you realissseee that you were a champion! in ther eyes *clap* ther eyes *clap...ur a good teacher for the youngins..people who are lost in music the ignorants really need to watch this shit ...thumbs up dude ur awsome!

Everyone should see this vid on TV.. on ALL channels... because most of the people nowadays are thinking: Kanye got a new song!!! but ... it isnt... people nowadays don't even know that music today exists for like 30 years... Im glad that im into all this sampling... cause than u know what real music is.
Dude, no bull, but you have to be HE coolest and one of the most knowledgeable dudes on youtube, you deserve super fame man, all the best! wish i had a collection like yours, im gonna make a mix with some of the originals and sampled songs, ill put you down as the inspiration
What kind of equipment do you use? I'm into sampling but right now I just use FL Studio. I'm interested in getting some physical hardware to play around with.
but 'move on up' wasnt sampled by kanye. beat for 'touch the sky' was made by just blaze and its the only one from 'late registration' not made by kanye himself. check it if u dont believe it ;)
A few more from the first album that i discovered in my vinyl collection:
Marvin Gaye - Distant Lover. Intro bass hits and vocal "heaven knows....every night, that i....." sampled in Kanye's "Spaceship"
Mandrill - Peace and Love. Intro yell and vocal "and his bloody army screams, screams!" sampled in Kanye's "Two words" w/ Mos Def. The drums also sound like they were taken from here, even though there arent really any clean drum samples in the track.
Thought you would have shown the Laura Nyro-Save the Children sample he used in The Glory...Or even the Gil Scott Heron sample he used in The People for Common but then again you would be there all day cause of the amount of samples Kanye flips..Nice one Funktuall
Kanye was an amazing engineer of music and his knowledge of old music allowed him to be that amazing engineer he once was. His going into "rapping" allowed his arrogance to soar and his career sold out long ago due to it. A few years ago, he was the young prominent individual who was going to bring back the positive aspect of Hip Hop through the main stream, but he became nothing but a diappointment. Just my thoughts... One, Maka. Still great video though.
speaking of kanye, im pretty sure he did a beanie sigel song called the truth - with a sample from Crosby, Stills, Nash called Chicago - which was about the 1968 DNC and the trial that followed for the protesters. Ye Titter is from CHicago so it made sense to me - it was funny hearing that original song on the radio - having heard the sample so many times
See, that's why you my DJ! I might have to steal that idea when I get hitched and come down the aisle to Move On Up! It's one of my favorite Curtis tracks. Keep doing the funk the way you do, my DJ!
I so look foward to these vidz.....love it!! "Move on up"......What a CLASSIC!!!! If you like that sound - check "Mel Britt - She'll come runnin back" Similar guitar riff, recorded in Chicago BEFORE Mr Mayfields track. It is different but has a similar feel. It was a Floor Filler (and still is!)on the Northern Soul Scene in the UK. A classic in its own right.
great video! you might wanna know that there is a whole cd of sample´s from kanye. it´s called gold digging as sampled by kanye west it contains samples of late registration and college drop out. there is also a cd from jay and 2pac and i thought missy eliot which is also named as sampled by
DUDE!! I Wish I woulda had this back when I was in school. Or right back before I got into sampling. You know what funktuall, I'm gona do a video just for you, of how I chopped a sample up and made a track, which I'm sure you'll probably know. You'll appreciate it. :) Keep it up dude. You really inspire me!!!
