  • Awesome! I've already learned something by watching this: I need to practice more! XD

  • Most excellent!!!

  • How many pieces did she play in that concert?! I've seen like 15 so far from the same recital. I bet she graduated at the age of 14 because she's so good.

  • WHO CARES WHO COMPOSED THIS , NOR ANY OTHER PIECE FOR THAT MATTER THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH OUR WORLD TODAY ARE WHILE ALL YOU FOOLS ARGUE THE MIRACLES THAT ARE IN FRONT OF YOU GO UNOTICED, THIS CHILD DESERVES MORE THAN THIS, SHE IS A GODDESS,AN ABSOLUTE JOY TO LISTEN TO. THIS PAGE SHOULD BE FLOODED WITH NOTHING BUT PRAISE AND ADMRIATION , GO BACK TO YOUR LADY GAGA PAGE WHERE YOU BELONG

  • @STIKEMJIM Who cares about composers? people who try to UNDERSTAND the music... no composers means no music. She is one of the best performers out there, but without composers you would not be watching this video. So composers are more important than the performers....Li Jie is a very exceptional performer who has a rare talent.

  • ive played acoustic guitar for 37 years , you did not understand what the fuck i was gettig at , on li jies page everybody on there , argueing over who wrote the song , yeah if youre going to just get in an arguement on her page and not at least give her a compliment on her amazing guitar accomplishments ( no matter who wrote the piece she is playing , get it ? ), performers keep living and dead composers songs alive ,..get a life ,

  • @STIKEMJIM Well SIR, You are obviously not a professional. So im not going to listen to what you have to say and take it to heart. If you fully read what I wrote, you would have noticed that I said "she was an Exeptional performer with a rare talent". I have dealt with armchair warriors like you before over the internet..I was in no way trying to prove you wrong, or be offensive. I noticed that you said something that I saw was ignorant, and I simply gave what I thought. have a nice day SIR

  • god loves this woman.......mi to

  • For the technical aspects of playing, she could give lessons to Andrés Segovia!!!!!

  • shes good but to say she plays better than york is ignorant extreme. nobody puts the feeling as strong or plays it better than york.

  • .....QU'EST DEVENUE CETTE ARTISTE !!!! MAGNIFIQUE !!!!!!les années passent ....

  • I LOVE YOU !!!

  • wow

  • Grande...!!

  • good!!

  • Sweetly beautiful

  • Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this song? This is the one classical song that I want to learn more than any other.

  • Chai?

    女の人は、まろやかに弾きますね。

  • 美しい!

  • shes a girl (wikipedia)

  • how do u know if its a girl or boy but who cares he/she plays amazing

  • There is no trick to getting the emotion on this piece as it is a "feel good" vibe that was so prevalent in the late eighties. The first time I heard this piece I wanted to puke as a young man but as an old man now can appreciate the song.

  • I was gonna learn this piece by ear, then 1:50 happened hahaha

  • good one, my friend !

  • yeah its pretty hard core

  • This is really beautiful. And she's such a good musician

  • peel tower

if you troll through youtube you will find this was made in 1995 and is on SHINE MUSIC

as CLASSICAL GUITAR by LI JIE. If anyone can tell where i can buy please do so , I cannot find anywhere in england that sells it.

  • This girl was born in 1981...I don't know when this video was made. I'd be interested to find out. Does anyone know?

  • it was published in year 1995 as a TV series of guitar training course. in China, we have a few TV channels for education purpose.

by the way, look at the girl's hair style, that was a popular one for school girls in the 80's and early 90's.

    cheers!

  • I believe Li Jie was near 14 or 15 years old when she wonderfully played this piece. A truly gifted young lady.

  • really gifted!

  • It is if a flower sang you a song about a grand, epic and adventurous life but with the soft and sweet voice of a flower. It is such a powerful and moving piece but she plays it so delicately.

  • holy shit that gets crazy about 1:50 in!

  • I agree she plays it well, but no one can play a piece as well as the composer, no one can play a Barrios piece as well as Barrios would just as no one can play Hendrix as well as Hendrix, even if they're technically better

  • I know what your'e saying albatross111, but I have just one question: do you think Puccini could sing Nesun Dorma better than Pavarotti? Just food for though. When someone makes blanket statements without any evidence appart from visceral certainty, I'm always suspicious. No offence.

  • That's absolutely true. I don't disrespect anyone elses opinion on the interpretation, I think this is a wonderful interpretation of sunburst, I can't fault it, it's so pleasant to listen to. But I really love hearing the composer play their own music, because they know the most about the piece. They also know the emotion that they used when writing it (or lack of) and so appropriately interprets it.

  • Having said this though I know many composers loose the passion for their own piece when they overplay it (I know I do), whereas players newer to the piece may be more connected to the piece of music. So I don't know - All up to personal opinion.

  • the zen guitar goddess

  • I wish she was here when I come home at night

  • pervert!

  • the way it sounds.. you just have to love it

  • wow

  • Damn Starts shredding All Sick at 1:41

  • This is AWESOME! Great music played with great feel...truly inspiring!

  • damn!!

  • she's like a guitar god

  • wow i first saw these in 2001 or something way back when you had to collect stuff like this off of kazaa i dont know if youtube was around then , i always thought she was a boy lol

  • What is the maker of the guitar she is playing?

  • Wow. I've played suzuki guitar for 5 years and I will never will be as good as she is.

As for her, sky is the limit.

    GO LI JIE!

  • my fav song to play. in fact the song that got me into playing classical guitar. John Williams Version is just as good

  • Wonderful! Great technique and beautifully played! Great interpretation.

  • Her technique is at the level ALL guitarists should aspire to. She plays the piece better than the composer himself!

  • absolutely agree!!

  • hows is that bad, she is amazing you fag

  • i didnt say it was bad. i didnt say she sucks. i agree that she has great talent and tone. what im saying is that to me, it doesnt sound like she is putting any personal spin on it. it just sounds like shes playing the notes off the page, but she isnt making them sing out with personality as much. actually read the comment before making assumptions and calling people fags k.

  • if you can surpass her then u got the right to comment like that

  • You obviously have no ear for tone quality.

  • no one can play a piece better than the composer

  • I think this video proves you wrong. York gets incredible accolades for writing this brilliant piece, but I think Li Jie plays it better.

  • @rbilkie This is a John Williams piece, Andrew York just covered it.

  • @Crymerge No this is an Andrew York composition.

  • tell that to tchaikovsky and make him play his violin concerto followed by his piano concerto.

  • Complaining about no soul and a lack of emotion is ridiculous. This chick sat around with a metronome for HOURS AND HOURS doing the most boring and mundane type of practicing you can possibly do. Its dedication.

  • are the strings she using nylon?

  • yeah that's nylon strings

  • she talented nice

  • Perhaps it isn't so much a lack of inspiration as it is humility. Something that is a rarity with western musicians, but is dictated by the cultural values of east-asian societies. Also, her expressions both musically and bodily broadcast that she is merely a messenger, that her hands and body and instrument serve as a vessel for the music with which she is privileged to be able play brilliantly for the world.

  • "Perhaps it isn't so much a lack of inspiration as it is humility. "

Precisely, her emotions are inward and not worn on her sleeve. I've never seen such a beautifully coordinated and delicate pair of hands. She is truly gifted.

  • but have you seen at 1:41 when she starts with the bass? it's incredible!

  • i think i'm in love

  • she plays good but i can see no inspiration in her playing. look at her face and movement. they are all dead.. Boring face but nice playing anyway.

  • How can you know what she's feeling?

To say such a talented guitar player would lack emotion is just plain fucking rude, just because she her emotions aren't beaming and clear doesn't mean she's not feeling anything while she plays.

  • when she recorded this videos she was just 14 or maybe 15. she is a machine, yes. but how can you say that she has no ispiration? do you imagine how much pain and patience is needed to be able to hande a song like this one? do you have a clue? it's terribly hard to play. those who are not inspired dont arrive at those levels where she is!

  • lol she might have died in order to play this good :)

  • ha i know what you mean she doesnt seem to really have any faith in what she is playing. no soul to her

  • No faith? No soul? This is a beautifully rendered piece of guitar music. She is so disciplined, so precise, her technique and execution of the passages is flawless! I believe it contains plenty of soul! I wish I had 1/10th the talent.

  • I heartily think that she has put her whole soul in the endless hours she has spent practicing and perfectioning her technique when the naster points his finger upwards the fool sees the finger, the wise sees the blue sky.

  • you're stupid as shit, romiek

  • beautyful....this hits my nerve

  • She's awesome

  • es real mente sorprendente no creen

  • beautfiful!

  • good player, wierd stage and fancy dress...

  • Lovely music, beautifully performed. Wow. Thank you.

  • Li Jie is definitely one of my all time favorite guitarist. Simply love her forever.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • check out almaguitar *dot* com and click 'english' and 'Li Jie' to see how she looks in 2006.

  • Look at her go indeed!

  • ..Type in 'sunburst andrew york to see the chord.

  • She's good. It's been overdubbed though. If you notice at 2:17 when she hits the top string with her thumb she should have her finger on her left hand on the top string two frets up, because at 2:21 the string suddenly becomes deeper again.

No biggie though, it's still her playing.

  • ..Or to say it better, If you notice at 2:17 the 1st (top) string is a F Chord, then at 2:21 the string suddenly is a D Chord again.

She just didn't put fer finger on the top string :)

  • ..She's tuned in double dropped D tuning, btw.

  • Here is my comment: Nescite te

  • i like to name names! anyway, joe satriani is a hack. In an honest world he'd be relegated to jingle writer.

  • I agree...but, his hooks are catchy...and he did really "innovate" a very unique sound...that MANY since have been influenced by. Don't get me wrong...he bores me silly...but I guess he had his place:)

  • good feeling

  • oops, just read NIN231's most recent comment - can i delete my response to his earlier comment? I make it a rule to not even engage in discussion with racist dumbfuck retards. I feel ashamed i even discussed an "artistic" issue with him.

  • hmmm indeed, NIN231. You are wrong and malmangelucci is right. I play both classical and electric guitar-last week I played Koyunbaba to the U.S. ambassador in Prague, and for yrs have been playing Satriani style "notesoup" (if u don't believe me listen to the clips on my wsite hakanozeldotcom-clips can't lie)and so I am qualified to say. And you heard it here first..(cont)

  • That is amazing. o_o

  • shes amazing I have tried that ssong , it is extremly hard so dont hate shes good

  • there are some really talented electric guitarists out there; not just technically, but musically as well. you just need to be a little more open to the idea. hopefully, one day you will be.

  • -by FAR the hardest of the 2 styles is the electric shred stuff.Good solid classical guitar technique takes 3-4 yrs hard work. On Vai,Satriani etc it's 10 yrs and counting. Doesn't mean it's necessarily BETTER, of course. But it is categorically HARDER. I can do both so I'm qualified to say. Are you?

  • Your full of CRAP....other way around dude! Geaze...it really depends on the person...but I used to play Satch, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson etc...years ago...WAY before it was common...and it was WAY easier than classical....I was a classical guitar major...maybe it's OK for the "hacks" to butcher stuff...but tone is EAVERYTHING in classic...and it's not with all that BS electric.

  • Satch has one of the worse BS tones I've ever heard. Don't get me wrong..I like Joe's music...but it's not all that difficult to play. IMO

  • Was refering to "hakanozelguitarist " comment on classical being easy:)

  • i didn't say classical was easy!! I said it takes 3-4yrs hard work to get a solid grounding! But after that much work it's possible to play some of the hardest pieces in the repertoire (eg Bach Lute Suites etc). It takes WAY more work to play something like a Shawn Lane piece or similar.

  • Also, in the grand scheme of Rock guitar, the 3 names you mentioned aren't necessarily at the cutting edge of technique anymore (tho obviously they are all still geat players). Check out someone like Guthrie Govan, and I defy you to tell me that that isn't technically harder than Bach, Domeniconi etc. I can play Bach and Domeniconi, but I can't play like G Govan, and I've put probably 4 times the hrs into doing so!

  • Well I guess we're all different...and maybe you just don't have very fast fingers...'cause Govan OBVIOUSLY took a lot from Satch...and some fusion players...he's very good...but it's still just RIFF ROCK...and slurred left hand...not real RH tech to mention.

  • I'm not saying that it's EASY guitar...because it sure ISN't:)..but eh's nowhere NEAR the level of Pat Metheny or cats like that...who can TRULY improvise... Also, GG's tone is very easy to play with...that's why guys like him use that "fake/over

saturated delay drive" it makes lazy sound smooth. I've got WAY more respect for guys that can just go guitar-amp-chord and sound great! Which was what I was talking about with "classic guitar" and tone.

  • Cutting edge...interesting...S. Morse is old...and boring...but his RH was LIGHT YEARS ahead of GG. Left hand slurring...is just smoke and mirrors. All these cats we're talking about are fusion/jazz kind of players...funny thing..."a blues player..plays 3 chords for 1000 people...and fusion players play 1000 chords for 3 people"...:)

  • actually my fingers are 18notespicked(not slurred)asecond fast-on my website i have audio and tab to a metronome to prove it..but maybe u havnt heard GG's album-he can outpick Paul Gilbert, as well as slur etc.if u check my website i have audio of me playing 18notes per sec shred, bebop over Donna Lee, Bach Lute music on classical, Irish music in open tunings,The Black Page by Zappa, chicken picking..I feel pretty qualified to comment on different styles.

  • eg tonight i did a gig in a cafe here in Prague..my performance of Champagne Supernova by Oasis got a round of applause and a free drink. My 12 minute performance of Koyunbaba by Carlo Domeniconi got ..well put it this way, I didn't know they had tumbleweed in Prague.. :)

  • hehe....yeah, me too friend...I've been there. Tuthfully...I'm VERY rusty on the "hot" guitar anymore. I've been teaching EVERYTHING since the early 90's...I've written lots as well...jazz, orchestration...you name it...and now...now, I just play and write SONGS...like 4 chords ya know. I focus on lyrics now...more difficult to write great lyrics than just about anything...and people actually like SONGS...go figure...lol

  • but u know what, the other day i watched a Derek Trucks vid and at one point he played 3 notes and my immediate gut response was "i may as well give up".i should also point out in the 'real' world i pay my rent singing Oasis and Elton John covers in bars..go figure! (tho I've never heard G Govan OR Pat Metheny OR Li Jie for that matter do that!) (yeh that was a joke..and i'm aware the joke is on me..)

  • This is her name: 李潔

  • how old is she?

  • now she's around 26, but then i don't know

  • She's 14 in these videos, she was born in 1981. So yea, she's about 26

  • Oh wow. I'm really impressed. It's good to see such talent.

  • She plays it beautiful, but i miss power in this piece. This piece just asks for power, especially in the fastest part...

  • ..the most adorable badass i've ever

    watched.

  • Fuckin awesome.

  • HAY diablosrising. she is chinese, ohh thats right, a SHE. do some research dumbass.

  • I almost didn't respond, because your comment makes you look like more of an idiot than I can. That being said, if you learned how to read, you would see that my response a few posts down was in reference to Kim Hee Hong, the South Korean guitar luthier. He builds guitars that Li Jie plays.

  • Very talented. Has she ever done a concert tour outside China?

  • Amazing!

  • This young woman is absolutely amazing. Many thanks to my brother who sent me this link! An observation: There are a lot of videos posted here where she is in exactly the same setting, same clothing, same position. Can you imagine playing all these incredible pieces, flawlessly, one right after another for taping? That makes her even more incredible to me.

  • mad skills!

  • siento deciros q hay gato encerrado, sino fijaros en el mi del segundo traste de la sexta al final de la parte que engarza con el tema, despues de los ligados. No lo pone, acabo de darme cuenta

    jajajaj malditos japos

  • chinese people should die because they are killing talent like this

  • They only kill hippies who were incited by the US

  • Great!

    I love Sunburst

  • Would you like to marry me ?

  • Wow, thats great :) Oh.. well, strange, but i think it soundes like a piano sometimes? Is there a back up piano??

  • Hey Diablo, I didn't find it necessary for you to clarify your original statement. Beside it being true, hilarious and quite creative, I found it to be very clear in stating that obviously you recognize and respect this great player as well as have a knowledge of guitars.

  • Thanks Skreed. It's nice to meet someone on here who isn't retarded.

  • Li Jie is indeed incredibly gifted. One can only hope that hard work and dedication can achieve the level of precision, grace and over all tastiness that Li Jie displays with every piece she attacks. That said, I could shit a better guitar than the Chinese can make.

  • awesome!

  • She's great. And I mean no disrespect towards her with this, but isn't it funny that she can't play a guitar from her homeland because they're all garbage? I mean, the Chinese have a strong national pride, so you would imagine their guitar players would play Chinese guitars. But seeing as her guitar didn't fall apart during that performance, it can't be the case.

  • and you really, really meant no disrespect?

  • I meant absolutely no respect to Jie Li. I just thought it was a funny coincidence that she's a fantastic guitar player from a country that makes the most unfantastic guitars.

  • Thousands of years of craftsmanship, art etc. aside, she plays a hand made guitar by a Chinese Luthier. Don't confuse the cheap shit you see in Wal-Mart with the high end of Chinese ability. Travel a bit please...

  • Who made her guitar?

  • does this really matter, I mean the girl plays like an angel!

  • The luthier is Kim Hee Hong

  • He's not Chinese. He's South Korean. Travel a bit please . . .

  • Well,I'm sure there are Americans who don't buy American cars either.. so...

  • Would you like to marry me ?

  • Very nice playing, another reason for striving for perfection for each and everyone of us devoted to the guitar....

  • beautyfull as always

  • This is great! Wery musical beutifull. Cool to watch.

I play this piece on you tube.

  • Awesome, a true mantelpiece. What tuning is she in?

  • The tuning is a double dropped D with the top and bottom E strings tuned down a tone. Beautiful sounding guitar and wonderful player.

  • Thanks! Gonna try it now with my Les Paul plugged into a Marshall, wish me luck, I'll need it.

  • I think we have to ask her to stop playing the guitar cos she cheated.

  • that was well done... very well done. I think that there is no room for improvement on that piece. It was played as perfectly as a human can do.

  • Great talent - just amazing!!

  • i didnnt detect a single mistake here..buuuuut ive never heard this song before

  • Li Jie...you are amazing!

  • tranquil baby. I LOVE YOU...

  • She "slighty" resembles Motokariya Yuika... that's why i kinda liker her >__<

  • maybe we need to send her out to Iraq to stop the war. With her talent, I think it might just work.

  • maybe she's a robot?

  • Yes, I think that too. Can you belive that a girl that young can play like this!!!!!!!

Recently chinese have been working on some super dedicated robots!

  • Talented ? A gifted artist, one in a 100 years. I've heard this piece played better, twice. John Williams and yuefei Yang. I wished I could buy either of their cd's/records here.

  • she's talended and cute!

    mabuhay ang mga asyano!

  • I think I am in love with her.. Someone help mee and post more videos of herrrr :(

  • BRAVO !!!

  • I LOVE YOU LI JIE! There! I said it!

  • Theres a missing part of her piece...the ending base part. she didnt play the extra 2 bars and 2 seconds. i wonder y. But she played it very well.

  • magical, virtuoso, beautiful tone.

  • yeah. rediculous

  • Congratulations for so much talent and work!

  • Better than Andrés Segovia an amzing guitarist to say the least and my new favourite(replacing Hendrix).

  • Dude, she puts both of them to utter shame.

  • Eddy Van Halin in a dress

    No!!!! Joe Satriani

  • you must be joking

    comparing this talent to simple

    normal guitarists
