ummm sollen die Außenminister mehr als englisch kennen?? O.o ich weiß nicht über Deutsche Politken, aber in die USA, ich denke nur ein paar undere Politker können anderen Sprachem, aber ich denke das Sie sollen 3 oder mehr kennen ja?

@LeonSkottKennedey You are from the USA? Look; i am a german student, and i'm learning English, French, and Italian. So i speak 4 languages. This person is one of the people(maybe 1%(?)), who speak only german and maybe a little english(as you can hear ;D). But I think, Politicians should speak at least 3 languages(your opinion). The standard german speaks 2-3 languages. BTW; I'm very interested in America..., maybe you can tell me wich languages you speak...?

@xcvb213 i am indeed, how was my German by the way :O i have a large vocabulary, but not so good with the dative and so forth ^^ i misstyped :O jupp 3 or more would be good ^^ something like 67% or more av Germans speak another language from what i hear :O I speak German und English, i'm studying Spanish as well as almost all other Germanic languages, as well as Russian and Japanese ^^ The US ist... interesting, the political scene is a complete mess, and there's a lot av problems, but good ^^

@xcvb213 I currently study German, Spanish, Latin (for medical studies), and intend to someday study French.

1% of Germans? I was in eastern Brandenburg for the summer and most of the older people (40+ yrs) knew only German and some Russian. I presume you're a 'wessie'. ;p

It seems strange to me that Germans can't speak some English when some European nations can speak at least one or two foreign languages.for instance,60% of the population in Finland can speak English pretty well and it's not their native language.the English,the Germans and the Americans are a very insular people who don't make an effort to learn about other cultures.

On a simple level all Germans do speak English. But they don´t have to be perfect in a foreign language.

@nostalgiamelancolia1 We Germans learn English in school.Starting in grade 5.And in grade 6 we start to learn French(depends on region).If the people use they chance given to them to learn those languages or decide not to depends on the person itself.Generalizing by saying that the English,Germans and Americans are insular and don't care about other cultures is not nice.Of course there are ignorant people existing in this world,but they're found everywhere.

@nostalgiamelancolia1 By my estimate, a greater percentage of Germans speak English (and probably better English) than residents of the US. And your crack about Americans not learning about other cultures, I think you might be projecting; I have a Mothodist church, a Mosque, a Sihk temple and a Hindu temple all within walking distance of my house, and I (white male ethnocentric conservative) have taken at least a year of Spanish, German, French, Latin and ancient Greek, all at the college level.
