  • looks like bootyass but im gonna assume its from the video quality

  • If you're getting "texture" when you spray, it's going on too dry, as a general rule. This can be cured by wet-sanding with 400 grit, then lay down a "mist coat" just to get the guitar used to the idea that it's gonna get painted; let "tack" for a minute, then carefully lay down a wet coat. Exaine from an angle in good light, to see wet or dry areas. This applies to colour, too. I prefer cheap acrylic enamels (KMart, or model paint) to anything fancier. Lacquer is so 1950's.

  • do u need to blow dry it?

  • that guitar is sexy

  • Too many damm layers, that's why it takes so long to dry, with so many layers, it'll look like factory paint.

  • @Macsk8ing Isn't that the point?

  • @Macsk8ing And?

  • this video is better than many others, SO STRAIGHT TO THE POINT!

  • can this method be use on an acoustic

  • WHITE STRIPES

  • come sombody plz tell me what paint u use on the neck and body binding!! plz help!!!

  • not just work time

  • wait and all

  • cool vid how long dose this take?

  • nice job !!!

  • Doesn't clear coat affect the tone of the guitar?

  • @darthvaderyoda No, where did you get that from?

  • @OnyxBeastGuitar I thought that was common knowledge, it puts the guitar body wood in a plastic "box" and affects the tone.

  • @darthvaderyoda Yes, but the guitar always comes in a "plastic box" from the factory too, so if you paint correctly and apply just as many layers of clear coat as the factory that made them, it probably won't affect the tone.

  • hopefully i will be able to do this to my dean razorback

  • that looks sweet man :)

  • Hi, i'm buying a strat style guitar ( no paint at all, just wood surface), after taking of all the components, do I have to do any prep before painting my first flat color?

  • that is sexy ^_^ what type of paint did you use coz I use enamle and it messed up O.o less it was just me coz I didn't spend half the time you did on mine XD

  • pink...

  • How do you take the wiring out?

  • one more thing,do i need to sand the 4th layer of sanding sealer?

  • how to paint the fretboard??what paint should i use?

  • Damn that's one sexy guitar!

  • Thanks for the invite. I like your videos and music!

  • Hey man love the vidoe, going to do this to my strat copy during spring break, i have a few questions. like do i sand the neck also? and i dont have an electric sander. is it ok to do this by hand?

  • @jbd1992 Doing it by hand is best, electric sander can be a bit harsh i'd say. Don't fuck with the neck unless you plan on painting that too (I wouldn't it complicates things and you don't want to fuck up your fretboard). If you want to paint the headstock yes.

  • should i use the color for cars or for the chair or other things..?.

  • Your camera sucks........BAD. I can't tell if the "finished product" looks good or looks like shit. I want to redo my guitar but I don't know exactly how....oh well.

  • spawn's guitar

  • I want to design something, and paint it on a guitar, using paint pens or something similar. Can I do it the same as it is here, just replacing the spray with the custom paint job, or do I have to do something else?

  • pretty good. a little different procedure than what I would have done, but looks nice!

  • this good, im tryin to paint the body of a neal moser morpheus, makin it black

  • do you need to wet sand and buff? I painted my guitar a flat black and layed down 2 cans of clear and it looks great, so I'm a little nervous to sanding it and ruining it

  • BAAAAAAAAAAD Finish!!!

  • can u use steel wool for sanding in between the coats??

  • can you do the same thing with pickups, pickguard, etc?? i mean can you paint them in a similar way to your guitar???and one last question, should i apply these steps if i draw something on my guitar with a posca marker or something like that???

  • very nice:)

  • Hey I got a Dean Dimebag Razorback how should I go about painting it?

  • Great job dude :)

  • awesome, now it looks like a Mutant SG.

  • what should i use if i want to put stickers on my guitar and put some type of clear paint on it so i can see the stickers

  • sorry if i ask stupid question...what do u used for blow dry ...the guitar..

    awesome shining guitar dude!

  • spray paint comes out horrible, never use it, get a cheep spray gun and automotive paint, comes out so much better

  • Where can i buy those products?? i've searched in google and i just found some products that dryies in "a few hours" not 15 / 20 minutes as you say... can you please recommend me a website?? thank you a lot!! =)

  • @whitedevil19 Reranch dot com that's where I get my stuff from

  • I think it would of looked better if you only painted the body. I think you did a awesome job though.

  • hey, nice vid. im going to buy a body on ebay and isnt painted at all, so im thinking about using your video tutorial as a reference but, does it really take 4 weeks for the paint to dry?? wow!! o_O how much does the sanding searler take to dry?? thank you for the video, its awesome!

  • should I sand down between each layer when I apply the clear gloss too? :)

thanks for the film, It really helps me a lot!

  • @SimonOlaOla Only sand off any drips

  • @0EH0 thank god for this answer!!!

  • @0EH0 Sanding sealer is also called Primer right?

  • omg...i have that depressing blue guitar! except its a squire XD

  • Ok, after you've sanded off the old paint.... Do you put the clear coat on before the paint or after? or clear paint, color paint, clear paint? or color paint first then clear paint? ..... also, How many coats of each of the paint do I need??

  • Im at final stages of painting my guitar, just put my 6th clear coat on few hours ago...and it still isnt smooth. Feels textury ,like sorta coarse, likek it needs to be sanded, yet....it was smooth before clear coating it. HELP!!!

  • @97warlock Check that clear coats are being sprayed cleanly, also make sure you lightly clean off any dust between each layer

  • @97warlock what paint did you use

  • i painted my guitar but didnt add any primer. what will happen now? im going to add gloss to it later.

  • what type of paint did u use?

  • @subthis Lacquer

  • how did u paint the neck without getting the fret painted

  • @2346 cover them up with tape

  • i'm repainting my SG soon, sort of along the lines of a george lynch or Kirk hammett type of look.

  • what kind of paint did you use on the pickguard

  • @trevornish000 lookslike a new pick guard to me.

  • so you just use regular wood spray paint?

  • is it hard to take the pickguard off and all that wiring shit, and to put it back together

  • u just need to unscrew it off the body and take out the output jack with its cables. youre gonna need a soldering iron and some solder later when youre done to solder the output back

  • if i just covered evrythin wit masking tape thn spray painted it would i look alright?

  • @0EH0 what spray that suitable to paint guitar?

  • Hey man, loving the finish on the guitar, great job :DD I'm going to be making my own guitar within the next week or so (thankfully i'll have alot of help from a pro :L), and i was just wondering how much that paint-job costed you.....

  • is wet sanding when you take the sandpaper dip it in water and then sand?

  • whats the song

  • Little Acorns by The White Stripes

  • Hey do you know what I can do for the neck? I mean I *replica* SG and I want to paint it white. But I don't want a guitar with a fucking red neck and white body.

  • u might wanna use a paint stripper on the neck and body instead of sanding it off, so u dont do any damage to the wood.

for the neck, remove the tuning machines, n use the same method for painting it as u would paint the body.

use masking tape to cover the whole fretboard n the areas u dont wanna paint.

  • hey which white stripes song is that ?

  • can you let it dry for a week, how dry will it be.

  • the paint will be dry, but it wont be hard. basically u need to let it rest until u cant smell the paint anymore..

  • do you think i could do a EVH look to my fender with red black and white or will it take longer

  • There is an Ebook about that, I can giev you the link if you want, just pm me

  • Beautiful Work.

  • Did u sand after each clear coat??? or what about the final coat of red paint... please let me know bc im trying to do this to my guitar and may be in a little too far over my head

  • only sand the paint and the clear coats where there are any drips, sand those off n continue.. also make sure u let it rest for 1 month.. then continue with the next steps..

  • I dont think i can let it rest for a month... u said u could blow dry it for an hour a day??? For how long?

  • letting it rest is the most important step of all.. otherwise the paint job will be very sensitive to scratches n dents. if u want a quality finish..

  • is that little acorns by the white stripes?

  • Would Rustoleum painters touch ultra cover 2X Gloss clear work for the clear? im not sure if its lacquer.

Also can you give more instructions on how to use the rubbing compound. do i have to rub off the stuff or something. i tried on a blank piece of wood and it wasnt glossy from the rubbing compound

  • the rubbing compound i used is a car polish.

use a soft cloth n apply it in a circualr motion in arround a 3 inch radius.

the whole body might take u up to 2 -3 hours.

  • you didn't sand with a flat block raped in sand paper did you? i can tell because i can see dimples in it where it is sanded unevenly.

  • what type of clear coat did you use?

  • preferably the same brand as the paint.. just make sure its lacquer based..

  • I dont know how to take out the tuners out of my strat?

  • get them from behind

  • that can be misunderstood :D

  • wow aunks nice choice of words rofl!

  • why don't you use paint remover then sand it to make it smooth.

  • ya u can do that too

  • so to do a good job it would take like a month or so? oh hell no, i will leave it lol

  • What are you refering to by 100, 150, 250

  • the sand paper grit.

the lower the number the harder the grit-the higher the number the softer it is

  • thanks

  • view number 666!!

  • How did you paint your pickguard?

  • do you think the guitar now looks well done - like, on close inspection does it look like a re-spray?

  • Btw, how many days for each primer/paint layer to dry before you sand it?

  • the primer takes arround 15-25 mins to dry and the paint arround 30 mins. but sand the paint only if you see any little bumps or drips.

also make sure u only use lacquer sanding sealer/ paint/ clear. enamel paint could take up to 3-5 days to dry =/

  • why do you have to wait 4 weeks after clear coat?

  • even tho all the layers of primer/paint/clear are dry, they still need to harden before wet sanding and polishing the guitar..

if you dont let it rest you might have problems with it later on because it will be pretty easy to get scratched.

    pease out
