like the trailer reviews at the begining, pretty much the same as TJs...i saw several videos on why Eli fails already XD It's ok to kill cities to save your damn book from what i hear , not the kinda thing i wanna watch, i didnt know it had technical problems too and lacked action :I
I think you might of heard wrong... ***Spoiler Alert*** in the end he gives up the book just to save one life... you could say (according to this movie) it's ok to defend yourself against those who are willing to kill you for your property.
Legion: Johnny Darko/Constantine meets Triple xXx. Just another "Gawds gonna dee-stroy da woild..." - just from the preview i can tell it's one notch below the "Aliens are Stupid and humans are even more stupid" movies like "Knowing" and the new "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and TV shows like V.
Actually I don't think there was anything supernatural represented in this movie. Nothing about god's wrath or any other mumbo... or atleast it didn't seem so to me. All the destruction was, clearly stated, man made. Having the survivors feel religion was the cause isn't far fetched... just look at the world today.
actually I take that back... him being blind and doing some of the things he did might be seen as supernatural... but some say him being blind is left to speculation.
@PiratedLogic: Legion definitely was. Angels who are war machines (organic humanoids with wings and collars restricting what they can do locked around their necks and limbs) and all that crap. Where the Book of Eli fell down was the premise that the one book that was forbidden by the World Government that led to the war (the Bible) had to be preserved at all costs. A more useless idea I never heard. Basic books on how to rebuild a world after an atomic war abound. I'd rather a few of those...
@PiratedLogic: Hehe.. is Ok. That's the kind of movie depiction of "God" that makes me think the author believes "God" is a ridiculously incompetent and weak bumbling idiot. Who also breaks his word in infernally devious ways: "I promised I'd never send a flood again, but I never said anything about not sending an army of badass ninja angels!" :P
The ending was a little blah but not unreasonable. I thought about it for a second then realized there are plenty of people who probably have it memorized right now that haven't read it as much as his character was suppose to have. I would of hated to be the one to write all that down though...
but beyond that, the whole idea of a new world without a bible being soiled by memory man, just made me want to see him get hit by a meteorite or something right as he was about to start reciting it.
There have been people who claimed to have accomplished this very thing. It's not likely, but I wouldn't say it's impossible. I know there are over 700,000 words in there but 30 years reading one book everyday is a long time. We use to have to memorize sections when I was in catholic school... when asked to recite you did not want to be the one who miss worded it I can assure you... I'm surprised I have any knuckles left lol.
That would be a more likely ending... What would of been better is if he started by saying... "in the beginning god made a singularity..." lol. That would of bunched up some panties lol.
been ok, hope you have too... we'll have to catch up soon :)
@666norton420 maybe you missed the point. God is the one that got him there, thus, authenticating the message. maybe you dont want grace and mercy but some of us do. the book of eil rocked. it was the most accurate portrayal of God i've ever seen on film.
Maybe that's why I thought it was so good... I went expecting the worst and after seeing Legion was wanting death lol. Maybe I should watch it again on its own to get a neutral view...
Watched Book of Eli and The Road last week back to back. And I hate to disagree, but Book of Eli was a steaming pile of unoriginal cliché-ridden shit. But you definitely convinced me not to bother watchin Legion.
Maybe I over praised it here.... my main point was just in comparison to Legion. I know not all if any will agree. I admittedly have a strange taste in movies. I don't even now anyone personally who liked There Will Be Blood, which I referenced here. It helps I have a fondness for the post apocalyptic genre.
The premise of Book of Eli was horrible, it built up the whole movie and it hit plateau at a low point? IT HAS AN AGENDA!!!!! I almost want to unsubscribe on the idea you are saying this movie is good.
The agenda being people use the bible to control people as a means to gain power? Sure you can pull an agenda out of it... you could even take it both ways. If you want to unsub for one thing we disagree on then so be it. I'm sure there are probably more things we disagree about than either of us will ever know...
It was written with a hint of sarcasm I have no plans on unsubbing. I really enjoy your videos, I even enjoy hearing your arguments against my own personal opinion.
A little shock came over me that you actually liked it. I love Gary Oldman, I thought the cinematography was beautiful. The plot, or lack there of, and the proselytizing and the supposed big twist of him being blind that fell flat, just made it into humbly the worst movie going experience of my life, and I've seen some bad ones in the theater, City of Angels being the only true competition with this movie.
I think the things you just stated you liked is the real reason I liked this. As an art hobbyist I loved the look and feel of this movie. It almost seemed like everything and everyone was made up of ash... which was fitting... plus Gary Oldman is amazing. I've seen plenty of movies that use the oversaturated look and accomplish nothing. My opinions often fall on how things look... so I can see why we disagree...

My fault... you said Legion lol. YES Legion was definitely full of ridiculous premises. I should read a little more carefully haha... my apologies :)

while i liked the visual style of Eli, i thought the movie was rather drab. not that bad, not that good.
him memorizing the bible....i thought that was a poor twist.
then ending for me made it the worst movie ever made, just for having me think about that outcome.
world destroyed by religious feuding - check.
small island of intellectuals are rebuilding - check
no religious books - check
then - "oh hey, i've got the fucking bible memorized if anyone wants to write all that bullshit down again."

not sure i agree with that bro.
knowing the whole bible, line for line?
sounds a little too john smith to me. lol

Ahhh the memories of catholic school.
Nothing like being told you are going to hell when 8 years old. especially from one of gods own reps on earth.
But then again nuns were always a little highstrung.
