this is just another release of ubuntu (basically)...it took what was ubuntu netbook remix, made it sexier and easier to use(UNE was so easy to use in the first place)...its PERFECT for students btw...boot time is seconds, like 8 or 9 seconds compared to the 30+ seconds of any other OS....the interface could not be made easier to use..this really puts netbooks on an even playing field with the ipad...and the best thing about it? its all f**king free.
Ack .. mystery meat navigation at the top. How about small pixel font text with the icons? Else, looks cool enough to play with this when it's released.
on a more serious note, it would be good marketing if you show Open Office opening and editing word/excel documents. Then the same document opening on a PC without a hitch
there is an evolutionsync plugin out now that will let un-bi directional syncing with google calendar (one way, will let googlge calendar dates come in, but not the other way around)
So does Moblin only work on Atom netbooks? I have an old Intel Celeron M dell laptop that's pretty much on par with today's netbook standards, and it runs Ubuntu pretty well. I'd love to use moblin's UI on it, since its mostly for my mom to use.
I would prefer that panel any day over gnome shell for 3.0. I like all the clutter foo, its a shame there was loads of secrecy over it cause I was looking on the clutter blog for some time hoping to see some design work.
I like the zoom animations, looks like a great replacement for folders :D I must be mad but I'm downloading the iso and I have a normal laptop not a netbook but thats how sexy it looks :D :P
The UI is really good. On my eeePC it's great. Getting wi-fi to connect has been my only problem so far (wpa2), but this was also a problem with recent Ubuntu.

The calendar feature would be more useful, if it could sync with google calendar.

Try it should be OK. Although your Celeron M laptop may not have the ability to boot from USB sticks, you may have to burn a CD of Moblin.

... follow up.. I did try it... Far too buggy. Not recommended. There is much more reliable Linux distros out there intended for netbooks.

DSL would be lightning, puppy linux has better wifi support.

This is a terrible demo, your clearly reading from a long press release. Work on it.

wow, you guys put out something that gives me a reason to replace windows 7 on my wind.
Great work. I think you just gave this little netbook a purpose.

Recently sold my eee and got an ultraportable but if this came out a bit earlier it may have convinced me to keep it. It looks pretty nice.
There's only so much of Ubuntu I can take. This is seems like a really well thought through and better designed version of Xandros.

is the toolbar themeable ?

Amazing, this is making want to purchase a Netbook.
f4ll1 2 years ago 4
looking GOOD . the only gripe is the toolbar on top - takes precious pixels from the meager 600 available. best on the right side ...
Ancient12Tree 2 years ago
Just to clarify. The toolbar is hidden most of the time. You can bring it up by moving your pointer to the top of the screen or press the home key.
