Cute video & really cool dogs! If I may suggest, next time you go out at night like that, bring a camera that can do night recording really well. Most Sony's and a few Cannon's can do that.
I have a retriever cross who actually carried home a "dead" opossum. I thought it was dead, until it came alive in her jaws and looked around. It then went back into its state of catatonia. And she dropped it at the edge of the yard. Within the hour, it had scurried back into the forest. Opossums are a dopey animal, but they are survivors.
Our cat brought a baby one home and then it attached itself to one of our other cats. Animal control said they would have to put it down. It was just a baby! So, we read about them and raised her. She came back to visit and I have that video on my channel. But, they're sluggish because of low body temerature. It's so low they can't get rabies and are immune to rattlesnake venom. So it does help them survive.

In my state, this is one animal you cannot own. My state offers animal permits for certain native species, but if you have an opossum as a pet, you cannot get a permit. If you have one, you will be fined and the animal will be confiscated and euthanized. And this is because they wrongly think this is a rabid animal! You know they have the smallest brains (in proportion) of any North American animal, but you don't need brains if you are that adaptable.

The latter study put them just below the pig and wolf. Humans are six steps up the ladder. Opossum appear dim witted because of their gait and very poor sight but they are above cats and dogs in the study.

Actually, opossums cannot carry rabies and they are not affected by rattlesnake venom. It's because of their low body temperature.
However, they sometimes carry a parasite that can be fatal to horses if the horse ingests infected opossum scat.
