This is a stark reminder of one of the lowest points of my life. I had a ticket to this show and like a fool left it locked up in a barracks locker. My room was broken in to and I was relieved of a half month's pay and my precious Zep ticket. The lesson I learned were to protect things like that 24/7 and to keep my big mouth shut! I never had another chance to see them, so I live with "what might have been."
My two buddies told me all about the show and tortured me till I was ready to kill!
Thanks for commiserating with me. It's one of the things in my life that have just stuck in my gut, you know? There is a happy note to this story, I just recently re-connected with my friend who went to the show. 35 years later. Facebook does have some good points!
Thanks Stoney. For years I dreamed of what I would do to the thief...probably why I still hate thieves so badly to this day. But the lesson was learned, I never ever let a concert ticket get out of my personal possession again. Plus it makes a hell of a tale to tell.
Like a fist in the guts, wasn't it? I also missed out on the infamous 1977 "rained out' Tampa show. I was stationed in Cocoa Beach but was at home on leave getting married. It was a bad omen (or good?)... the marriage lasted about as long as the concert. LMAO!!!
And, completing my reply below, i strongley recomend people who like live versons of this song, to listen to the 77-80version of The Rain Song, with the different keyboars, "synth" i think. Specially the one from Zurich's show in 1980. best regards.
They never played The Rain Song in '77, and you think the synth sounds good? I thought it sounded really cheesy, which is why i like the the 73-75 versions the best.
i donno man.. its strange but i kinda like it... some others just sounds like played worng. Zurich in 1980 is perfect. But i do agree with u... mellontron is the best. is just that in that version in zurich, when RP sings the "i never though u would ever go", JPJ makes a riff in hes keyboards that i feel all what the song means. kinda NERD analisys but haha.. sometimes u just feel touched by something!! take care =D
It's kind of a shame that nothing will be this good again. One moment in time and it'll never return. I guess we were blessed enough to have recording equipment around to preserve this. Music of the Gods my friends.
Agree totally that we are blessed to have recording ability now.....for the first time in history we are able to preserve for future generations our contemporary musical greats........we are living in the days of a musical renaissance because of it in my opinion, and Zeppelin is a band that will stand the test of time forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Led Zepp is way better live, i have about 10 bootlegs, and all of them express a different mood from each other... I donno, Led Zepp live bring you that mood, that feeling, that beat tht u wont find in studios version.
hmmm I have - This Dallas one (dwnlng right now) -Voorst National - Conquer Europe (one of their last) -The Destroyer (famous from Cleveland) -The flying circus(NY-1975) -Odysseus -The Snow Job -Oxford 1973 -Ulster Hall, 1971 (first time Sairtway to Heaven was ever played live) and some others that i deteted as the recordings were really bad... I just keep AUD recordings from Uster, Odysseus (more than 3hrs of show), Oxford (classic) and Voorts (because of When the levee breaks)
in my opinion 75-77

1974LEDZEPPELIN in my opinion 77 was there best year
I acually think 77 was their worst year. plants son died and page was a mess with his drug use and bonzo was always drunk most of that tour.

Dude, that totally sucks. If I had ever found out who stole the Zep tickets, I would have beat the #$%! out of them. Sorry you missed the show, man.
