i always say it but whatever...i don't care about pokemon, okamiden , and kingdom hearts re:coded which came out this year, Radiant Historia is the best DS game of the year and hell in my opinion it's either the best RPG of the year if not it definitively a nominee at least...oh and one more thing this game while still an outstanding RPG I think it would have been better in consoles but whatever it's still awesome hopefully it'll get a sequel in a near future
I bought this a while back and I have to say that it's one of the better RPGs on the system. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. The story and characters are surprisingly strong, the battle system has some complexity without being a chore and the time travel components are actually interesting.
Stick in an option to turn off that annoying "click" of your characters boots when running and it'd be perfect haha
@cameroninla23 yes but when you think about it square soft made that game not square enix ... so that why chrono trigger awesome... this is it probably best rival it will ever happen
@DoubleAIV Yes, they surely do. I've shown my love for the Dragon Quest series by purchasing DQ6, but I'm afraid this time-travel epic will soon eclipse it, at least temporarily.
@CrazyJokerLOLOL Oh but I do one reason is because HD console gaming does not sell as well in Japan. While the PS3 did sell well a lot of Japanese gamers do not own HD TVs. So making an HD game is a huge financial risk for developers. FFXIII was supposed to be the game that saved the Japanese HD RPG market and well it ended up in bargain bins within a month of its release. Of course that is just one of many different reasons do a little research you can find out a lot more.
@CrazyJokerLOLOL I also recommend listening to the outcast podcast its run by english speaking gamers who live in Japan they can explain a lot other reasons why Square has not been doing heck there first episode was based on FFXIII when it first came out in Japan I learned a lot from that episode.
@Solareffects I am sorry if I confused you in general I agree with you completely but there are reasons for why Square has not been as successful as it once was but, it would take me forever to explain it thoroughly. Still they were once a very successful company that made many great games and it is such a shame to see them falter like this considering what they once were.
@Solareffects True but in its day square used to take numerous risks with their games and published many great rpgs Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Parasite Eve to name a few. These days you can't take those big risks anymore so they settle on working with what they know will sell (aka Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest) while Atlus publishes and takes risks with their titles hence why we have games like Demon Souls and Persona 4.
You know my weakness: offering some good music with the release. Beat Strange Journey and working my way through Etrian Odyssey III. I better pick up the pace before this game comes out.
This sounds really cool. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the fighting system, but after watching this, it looks really good. I see no downside to this game. Stocke is Hax.
@cirmothe9 Yeah, the fighting system makes or breaks most JRPGs for me. I've given up on more games than I care to admit because the most common gameplay mechanic just wasn't interesting enough. Looks like that won't be the case here.
@cirmothe9 You can thank the development team for that it includes members from Tri-Ace who made the Star Ocean series, Valkyrie Profile, and their most recent game Resonance Of Fate. They always make some of the best battle systems in rpgs they are just not really good at telling deep compelling stories, Valkyrie Profile being the exception. However the team behind the story includes members who made Persona 3 so I have great confidence that the game will tell a good story.
This looks masterful Atlus. There's a LOT of strategy to be had here both in battle and in the story. Another sleeper Atlus game that will sell for $100 + on Ebay and Amazon a few months after release.

@Solareffects
Square can't take risks because their projects all usually cost a lot more to develop than Atlus and require a lot more sales to recoup the costs.
Also Squares fanbase isn't exactly known for embracing things that are outside the box, require much thought, or unique.
