  • LOL... that was a good label for #347 she is a little smokey! probably these old units need some attention like all old equipment! i gotta imagine the prime mover is well worn in some of these old geeps! great catch , nothing like some clag to spice things up a little!

  • @rockinrollfan37 @rockinrollfan37 Yeah, That's what the Pan Am train crews call her when she's cold. You can see them trying to warm her up some more at one point in the video with the extended revving. LOL. All I know is that it was wicked cold, & windy out that day, & was the main reason why the camera was shaking in a few spots. I froze my donkey off filming this, but it turned out fairly well despite the cold weather.

  • Stanwood and Union Street crossings are now being rebuilt, Stanwood will have a sidewalk gate where you were standing. Westbound cars from Maine Eastern to Pan Am are being left on the mainline east of Stanwood, and eastbounds for Maine Eastern on the mainine west of Stanwood. Completely changed around now!

Great video by the way! :D

  • @drc930 Wow. I haven't been back there in a couple years now. Thanks for the info. Sorry about the shaky camera in the video, but it was only like 10-15* out that day. Burrr!

  • Great Video

How many trips does PanAm take to Brunswick a week?

  • I love these Locos... Too bad that they are soon to none........

  • amtrak is going to start making i think 2 runs a day to brunswick in late 2012 and since PanAm owns 95% of the line amtrak is going to be using they are going to do the track upgrades

  • @1extremeguy Yep. Bowdoin College students will have more travel options soon for trips to/from Boston, & Portland, etc. Amtrak is expecting to get lots of business from the Brunswick area, especially with gas prices on the rise again.

  • Does anyone know what happened to youtube-user "MECBMST"?

  • I don't know. It says "account closed"...?

  • Yeah. That's kinda sad, because he also had a great selection of MC/Guilford Rail (PanAm) videos on his account. I was hoping to find him again, maybe under a new name. But I enjoy your videos a lot, too!

  • Thanks. I know a few guilford related channel subscribers of mine have changed user names now. I'm not100% sure if his was one of them or not though. It's hard to keep up with all my subscribers as it is! Haha.

  • so these tracks are ripped up now ):

  • Not this line, Thankfully. This line is very active still with Maine Eastern RR, & Pan Am traffic. The ones that are in my "Calais Branch" video are the ones that are mostly gone now. Thanks for stopping by.

  • It was about 20* out with a -15* windchill that day.

  • That track needs some serious straightening work done!

  • Yeah, I agree, but if you think that's bad, it's actually alot better than it used to be before Maine Eastern took over. They replaced around 500+ ties last fall in that area of the yard, & plan to replace a few more as well.

  • That's cool. If you saw it a few days ago, then it was probably the same train arriving from Brunswick. I think I like the paint scheme on 511/505 better too. It looks better in person.

  • i think i saw mec 347 at rigby a couple days ago and pan am 511 i think it was...i like the 511 paint scheme better then the two other new schemes the 506 and some other loco has now

  • That yard sure is a lot smaller than it used to be. Maine Central used to have quite a siding operation off Union St. also. They had 3 tracks that crossed where the Bowdion College building is now. There was a long warehouse there, plus the old Fox Lumber used to get delieveries by train.

  • Yes it sure is smaller! I've got a few pics showing how big it used to be from the 60's & 70's, & there were about 4 more additional sidings in there, on the west side. There also used to be a roundhouse, & turntable at the junction, where the community center is now. Too bad it's not there anymore. Maine Eastern probably could have used it to some extent possibly as a museum, or car repair facility. Thanks for the additional info.

  • I also remember remnants of the old train station there. When my parents used to take me grocery shopping with them to Cottle's (now Hannaford), I remember some of the station there, with the old semaphore signal. From my parent's old house in Topsham, I had a clear view of the bridge spanning the Andoscoggin River where the bypass is now, plus the Black Bridge. In the summertime, I would hear the trains coming down the line. I could tell by the horn exactly what crossing they were at.

  • Man. That's cool. You must know Jerry right? Everyone knows him. LOL. Have you seen the new downeaster video yet? A new station is going to be put back, & Amtrak is coming to Brunswick in 2010. I'll send you the link to the video of the groundbreaking ceremony.

  • Hey Prosepp, I'm glad to hear that my video was able to help dispel your anger. That's a good thing! Part 2 gets even better than this, if you can believe that (IMHO). I'm uploading it in a few minutes, so stay tuned. Thanks for the kind words, & you're welcome!

  • just the right vid for calming down - just the right video for me this morning, as i needed to clam down from some anger.

    Thank you

    greetings
