But one thing madden and NCAA football have taught me through the years is routes and all that, I learned football through the madden series. I learned what zone blocking and a post route is. Madden can be educational to someone new to the sport. But it doesnt make me a passionate fan

Technically, the survey is right. Madden does teach these simple factoids that are a precursor2 being a Football fan like recognizing routes &formations; but what football videogame wouldnt carry that information?

I began recognizing those things as early as Tecmo bowl & NES Playaction Football which was way before I played Madden.

Madden 10 is not a football game. It is a display of NFL uniforms and computer graphic players wrapped up in staged animations. You do not have control over the action. It is dictated for you by the program. You're better off just watching football on tv, going to a real game, or playing in a real game. Of course, you could just play 2k8. An awesome game.

I do think Madden has made me a smarter football fan because it forces me to learn about the teams (strengths/weaknesses), learn the names of routes, when to audible to expose certain defenses, the names of routes, and more.

Having said that, I do think EA needed a bigger sample size of data and yea I am a bit offended EA is trying to speak for its fan base when it's evident they cant even deliver a good football game. A mediocre one? Maybe. Good? No.

KaeRingBellz, the reason most people bash Madden is because it is the ONLY NFL game available. It is a crap game. Every part of it is canned action. From the MORPHING, TIME SHIFT TACKLING, TRON JOGGING, LACK OF BLOCKING LOGIC, LACK OF PHYSICS to PLAYER TELEPORTATION. It is at it's best, a terrible simulation. RyanMoody, versuz, apexisfree and others are only trying to point out the faults (which are numerous) in order to instigate a better product for the video football gamer.

That said, all EA is doing is getting ready to use for another NFL License.

i havent heard about apf updating rosters but i know 2k5 rosters can be updated and i do them. but its a matter of we want something new. you ever think of that? 2k5 is 5 years old. graphics are outdated. Madden is not very realistic. It's slowly getting better (relatively), but it still isn't nearly a sim. Unless you manually tweak the hell out of the sliders, it's very hard to even replicate realistic stats per game.

Madden requires "Madden logic" that doesn't apply to actual football and if you've ever played online then you know that often times it's plays that would fail massively in real life that yield the greatest benefit in this game.

Madden has taught gamers that: 1) You never punt 2) onside kicks are unstoppable 3) one can win with one play 4) Vick is unstoppable 5) 15 yard QB dropback is an effective pass protection gameplan 6) 5 minute quarters are regulation length etc, etc. I coached junior high kids and many of them did unfortunately learn from Madden's video game. Sad. It's the dark ages for video game football.

With APF 2K8, I can turn up the speed, off the fatigue and injuries and still get a better "arcade" football game. Madden cheats, its AI is broken and my controller input is rendered pointless in Madden 10; therefore, even relabeling this as "arcade" would change type of consumer but I doubt they would be happier with its play.

You can't deny that the Madden series has brought the casual fan closer to the game of football & has helped broaden the knowledge of the game reguardless of it's flaws. My 7 year old knows what a spell back & a hot route is because of Madden. Madden helps teach you about the strategy of NFL football all be it not 100% sim as we would want it to be. I would even go as far as to say that I don't know if the NFL would be as big as it is today without the Madden football franchise.
