  • 02:10 - 02:13 I love how Céline drags Jesse from his t-shirt.

    02:18 - 02:24 And Jesse's short dance.

Dammit! I hope the person I'd fall in love with be a little like him.

  • @purpletycoon Then you should make it happen. Follow your dreams!

  • =)

  • 6:50 - 7:55 amazing! 8-D

  • i like the calling scene .remember that simples things are always the beautifiul one we do t need to expiate but to live our life is for it self and not a spectatle (frm emerson)

  • I first saw this film when I was 14 and 5:54 onwards this concept change my whole out look on life forver.

  • I absolutely LOVE this scene at the restaurant, so cute :)

  • Anyone keen on getting a translation for things said in german or french in this movie? I could help you out...

  • oh man the American complaining about the service LOL! why oh why! dude you are in freaking Vienna!! But then again, maybe he had nothing interesting to talk about with the lady so he resorts to the insignificant

  • I just lol at all the comments.

  • i adore how he holds her hand, turns it arouund her body and holds her!

  • birth dance....lol

  • what is this? some war between Europeans and Americans? Come on, cut it already. All Americans are not the same, and all Europeans are not the same so please just stop stereotiping everyone

  • @Pamelus01 i agree, and I won't tip anyone for using my stereos, hell no

  • "I like to feel his eyes on me when I look away." Soooo romantic!!!

  • einstein said, "only a life lived for others is a life worth living" and if the smartest man on earth said that, there must be some truth in it. You stupid americans should grow up and stop thinking about yourselves all the time and start thinking about other ppl. Love is all you need....

  • @RiotGrrrL89 americans are others to you..maybe you should start living for us you euro trash peice of shit.

  • @getdrunkgethi420 so cliche 420. So obvious your name.

  • That's a completely oxymoronic statement. Not to mention that all of your culture has evolved from ours, Europeans actually learn another language in order to be more accessable. Whereas most Americans are ignorant and continue to only use (or butcher in your case: 'peice'??) the English Language. I think you need to open your eyes before you start giving tips on cultural dynamics.

  • "stupid americans" and "love is all you need" in the same paragraph, COMBINED with "einstein" and "the smartest man on earth"?

Wow. You are absolutely incredibly stupid yourself. Bravo. Einstein was brilliant in MATHMATICS, not a man of the world.

  • @RiotGrrrL89 :D Einstein escaped from Europe to America...

  • i like how he told her about the Quaker wedding...their seemingly awkward moments turned into beautiful ones...i'm so corny...lol

  • the phone call part is such a perfect way to tell the other person everything you've been thinking... without it being too awkward, haha. it's too adorable, this movie, and they're both so great in their roles!

  • this part was so cute. i was blushing for her.

    HAHAHAH<3

  • Godddd this is a good F8768898 movie

  • Oh god, for gods sake could they both stop saying "you know" can't watch the movie without getting annoyed..

  • i love how they say you know, it makes me say you know and then get annoyed at myself for imitating the you knows from this movie but then i realize that i say you know all the time anyway so it doesn't really matter, you know? : )

  • "I like to feel his eyes on me when i look away"

  • I think I'm more like Jesse at 4:40.... It's terrifying, not knowing exactly what you want out of life, but at the same time, incredibly liberating.

  • "If there's any kind of magic in this world, it must be in the attempt of understanding someone, sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible, but...who cares, really? The answer must be in the attempt."

    God was this beautiful.

  • love this part...

  • the belly dancer kind of looks like Cher

  • I love how the director Richard Linklater chose not to put subtitles where a language other than English is spoken. It truly places us inside the film as if we were also really there and adds to the overall authenticity. Esp. in the restaurant scene here that shows all the different tables'-worth of people speaking German and then it shows the American couple with the tacky, rude guy shallowly complaining about the service. Such an awesome juxtaposition! I love everything about this movie!!! :-)

  • @videodoe But it's true, service at Cafe Sperl is actually pretty poor, and keep in mind that it's a historic place, where Adolf Hitler used to give speeches before he went on to rule the 3rd Reich.

  • @videodoe I dont speak German either but the two older men (speaking German) are discussing social theory; I heard him say Maslow and Wagner. Peace

  • @gegebird He actually says "maßlos" which literally means "without measure". the full conversation goes something like this: "Egon Schiele has brought an extraordinary important departure into modern time. And then you mustn't forget Otto Wagner, the great architect..."

  • @gegebird In case you are interested: the first group of people is arguing about something that's disturbing the "postcard image" of vienna. the middle-aged mens' conversation goes like this: "I was in Dubrovnik as a five year old." "It doesn't matter. It's vacation time." "I'm in love with Dubrovnik." "(sarcastic) Wonderful. Now you can go there and see a destroyed city." Finally there's some talking about something that has probably been pissed on. :) I love Vienna. It really is like this.

  • @GustafGouda Well don’t I sound like a pretentious prat now :) and I was so sure I was right to. Never mind.

  • @gegebird ha ha. it's not that bad. even for a native german, the viennese dialect is sometimes hard to understand. besides, we should all be glad, there are still people alive knowing who maslow was.

  • 4:40.

One of the best parts in the film. So true :/

  • mon dieu!magnifique cette relation...haaaaa si seulement ça pouvait arriver ds la réalité....

  • those 2 guys (see 3:20) are definitely checking Julie Delpy out! i'ts like they're ready to devour her! : P

  • I love what she says from 4:10 to 4:37.I feel just like that.Devoting ur life to loving someone seems to be a sign of weakness.I think it would be amazin too love some1 as much as ur own life, without limits and not being afreaid of letting them know it.

  • "are you CRAZY!" lol

he does it in this perfect distressed-girlfriend tone.haha

this film is absolutely amazing. have never seen anything like it.

    thanks heaps for uploading!

  • Don't we love how these two got around to Vienna as if they know the place?

This movie is so...honest and pure. I was so taken aback at how simple it is yet so moving. You really felt a connection with their conversations.

Maybe because...it's the way the actors played these characters well. So much sincerity in them. I'm glad there's a sequel. And I hope they made the 3rd (or a fourth) one...soon.

  • This feels like me somehow.....

    *sigh* Ich liebe dich, Sweetheart.....

    Thanks for uploading this..

  • god, i love this film they're just so natural- you can feel the magic between them

  • lol @ 1:11

  • Whaat :D

  • If she "fell for him" when he told her about seeing his grandmother's ghost when he was a little boy, then he "fell for her" at exactly 6:10 :-)

  • Great movie. Just can't stop watching!!!

  • at the end of this scene its so quiet in that alley way except her voice, wonder how many persons behind those windows were listening

  • 1:11...IF the guy walking behind them spoke/understood English, things would get ugly.

  • ..but just the little space in between..

  • Does anyone else notice how bad that belly dancer is?!

  • i think it was her hair .. Belly Dancers should either be blonde or shud have beautiful long black hair ..

  • ...and goldbond, what about ethan hawke's character? you could argue the opposite and say the only reason he picked her up was because she's attractive

  • that was so sweet how celine put jesse's arm around her.

  • Yea, especially with what she was saying at the time, you know? How "woman isn't trying to destroy man" I thought that was a nice touch.

  • most women choose "outer image than inner image"

  • He kind of kisses like what? And goldbond, are you sure it's 99.2% and not 93.6%?

  • adolescent:)

  • Between 93.6%-99.2% :P

  • Fantastic movie. And do u know what is the best on it? there's no music, no stupid hollywood music, which degrades every movie.

  • 99.2% of attractive women always say that they want a guy with a sense of humor, charming, and with a great personality. But that is usually not the case. Women only date guys who they are very attractive to, even if he is a jerk. I bet anyone if Jesse look like Shrek in this movie, no women wouldn't want to watch this movie.

Don't argue with me just accept the truth Ladies.:P

  • i really think charm/personality/humour can win a girl over and then you start to find things about that person more physically attractive as an afterthought(yes, probably even Shrek - like a nice smile:)) HOWEVER, I think you're fairly on target - some women really do go for vain but hot-looking jerks. Those of us who see substance like Jesse for who he is, first and foremost... - it's a bonus that he looks and sounds sexy:)

  • Thank you for your comment and acknowledging my comments as well. Yup, you also hit it on the spot. Maybe its time for women to acknowledge the truth so they can move forward with a more happier life. I think that they are cheating themselves of a productive and happy life if they continue to just go after looks. Once a woman flews are exposed their ¨good-looking¨ guy will dump her in a split second.

  • Too true, my friend. But I'm interested in what you actually think of the film itself...? Do you find the characters/story realistic?

  • you both are terrible cynics

  • Why fucking precisely 99.2%, maybe YOU are a jerk.

  • I just love jesses voice.

Especially when he says "What??" at the end of this part =) haha!

    This movie is just amazing!!

  • That was funny, but true!

But I simply love this movie!

No soundtracks, just plain talking and street noises.

    Come on, it's fun!

    Cheers!

    V for Verônica

  • Thanx you! At least you understand where I am have coming from.

    G for Goldbond.

  • breeeng breeeng

  • 4:06-6:46 (the 'Alleyway' conversation) is probably one of the best, most revealing moments in "Before Sunrise" because it wholeheartedly crystallizes the dilemma between being this 'creative individual' versus the 'beloved family person' that many people go through deciding about. I think the lines here are excellent&the acting is impeccable. Final shot (the 2 of them sitting there in silence) perfectly demonstrates how many of the questions won't be answered, we have to learn them on our own.

  • I have fought with myself so many times the conflict between the ARTIST WAY OF LIFE or the BELOVED FAMILY GUY. Both have good things. But in the First one sometimes the company it's necessary to reaffirm your feelings, goals and self-esteem. I know It sounds selfish to have some one to love you but to love too.... Love is complex, but not impossible. The problem is to keep the magic in a Standard Married Way of Life. When all the responsibilities come, Children Taxes.

  • That's why to be on your own gives more personal freedom but less people around. You just get casual relationships with no attachements.

  • It's indeed more difficult & challenging to be "on your own" not just for the lack of a solid relationship bond, but also because there is (in a sense) a pressure from society/friends/family to feel compelled to forge the family unit (it is, after all, the norm for centuries haha). Probably as one gets older, learns more about him/her self, the appeal of the 'casual thing' loses some of its charm because a desire for a solid structure in place with life takes hold. But, everyone feels different.

  • Thanks again for your feedback! It was great stuff to read. Best wishes.

  • I think you make some excellent points. All makes fine sense to me. The conflict between the 2 choices is indeed a difficult struggle and decision for many. Both (like anything else) will have their pros&cons; it just depends on what the individual feels inside& is looking/searching for. It's nice when the relationship is balanced .. a natural give-and-take .. to be able to give and receive love. Definitely complex. You are right: it's about maintaining that harmony/happiness when changes come.

  • I love it when she talks about how loving someone and being loved is important to her. around four minutes in. and when the guy starts talking it kind of reminds me of a conversation I had with with a good friend. i love it.

  • Come on!! This movie is just awesome!! The conversation might seem so trivial at first, but then you realize how interesting is it! It's obvious this movie was made just for smart people :P

  • 6: 02 - 6 :07 :)

  • Thats the idea you idiot, to listen to the everyday thoughts, things you talk about too, interesting things, and most importantly, things that are what surrounds us, real things that are destroying us, changing us, and creating us. Do you really think that those movies where you see all that "drama people" represent something that actually happens, something that actually exists? come on, grow up!

  • its very obvious that you have no social skills. i can already tell your a dull dumb 16 year old. go watch the new transformers movie kiddo.

  • @penguinpowah ROBOTS IN DISGUISE!

  • lol

  • i have this movie..it's like 10 feet away from me. Why i am i watching it on youtube??

  • cuuuuuuuuuz ur lazy? maybe? just a thought:P oooooooor ur a youtube fanatic ooooooooooor the version u have is a pirate version with ppl gettinfg uo in the middle and laughing, or maybe u where on teh computer and u decided u wanted to watch that movie. :D

  • it's like Bill Maher said: "DVD's are like marriages, when it's around all the time, you just don't feel like putting it in."

  • that's funny, probably explains why i'm not married. Actually though, i think it was to read viewers comments on this film as it is one of my favs

  • Maybe it's because you can read and leave comments after each small part. I enjoy watching this movie on youtube too, it makes me feel like there's a lot of peaple watching with me.

  • That's a nice thought... :-)

  • nothing wrong with watching it on youtube damonjon. i like going on here and reading other people's comments regarding certain moments myself.

  • hahaha, I'm doing the same thing. Once I go on to the next part of the movie, I immediately look at the comments.

  • same here!
