Someone needs to consult with their elementary school basic English text and notice that the part of the code you added starts with an "or". In other words, all emergency vehicles are exempt, period.

simple English lesson dear child...the word "or" when used in the above section "or when any vehicle mentioned in this section is operated..." means the vehicles mentioned before AND after that "or" are exempted. Meaning the response to an emergency call is IN ADDTION TO the other exemptions, not as the sole conditon of the exemption. The municipal code merges both its own exempted vehicles with those specified in the State Vehicle Code.
I applaud Tactikal for keeping an eye on the police. The need to obey the laws like the rest of us. As for the "or" argument, the first half of the sentence describes the vehicles. The second half of the sentence, the "where/when" section, specifies the conditions for those vehicles. The police are only exempt when they are responding to an emergency otherwise there would be no point in mentioning the conditions when they are exempt in the statute.

When you call 911 and they dont show up, youll know why cuz idiots like you complain and they end up going and parking in a parking structure and have to go walk to their car, pick it up, drive and wait for the parking gate to open and then come. oh how come he parked on a red? get over yourself cuz its obviously a call he/she came to as u can see more then one car there. Someone needs to consult with their elementary school basic English text and notice that the part of the code you added starts with an "or". In other words, all emergency vehicles are exempt, period.

simple English lesson dear child...the word "or" when used in the above section "or when any vehicle mentioned in this section is operated..." means the vehicles mentioned before AND after that "or" are exempted. Meaning the response to an emergency call is IN ADDTION TO the other exemptions, not as the sole conditon of the exemption. The municipal code merges both its own exempted vehicles with those specified in the State Vehicle Code.

I applaud Tactikal for keeping an eye on the police. The need to obey the laws like the rest of us. As for the "or" argument, the first half of the sentence describes the vehicles. The second half of the sentence, the "where/when" section, specifies the conditions for those vehicles. The police are only exempt when they are responding to an emergency otherwise there would be no point in mentioning the conditions when they are exempt in the statute.

Can they park where they want? The answer is yes. The Glendale Municipal Code exempts emergency and utility vehicles from parking restrictions:
10.12.050 Exemptions.
A. The provisions of this title regulating the operation, parking and standing of vehicles shall not apply to any vehicle of the division of police or the division of fire protection, any public ambulance or any public utility vehicle or any private ambulance
