  • Yeah but can he throw a spiral like Tebow at that age?

  • This piece is way too hard for him. Sure, it might sound "impressive" to some, but a piece like this cannot be played by someone who is a mere 7 years old. A 7 year old lacks the maturity and sophistication required to preform this piece correctly and as Bach had intended it to be played.

  • Think about how much work it is behind!

    I mean by the parents...

  • he looks as if he's going to fall asleep in a minute. how cute!!:)

  • @RainbowLorikeety Lmfao!

I think I just laughed the most I've ever laughed.

    EVER

    Just because he's Asian...

    (;

  • Hint to the teacher (if he ever reads it): First play slow and try to hit the notes properly; then speed up.

  • 0:24 can't tell if falling asleep or concentrating

  • can't tell if he's talented or just asian

  • considering his age......its an awesome performance

  • This is impossible! No way!

  • Excellent, je suis en admiration devant ce petit bonhomme (mais grand par le talent). Bravo !

  • TALENT ALERT!!!!!

He does seem to be struggling a little with this piece, there's not much expression and a few notes are out of tune....but I bet EVERY violinist has to work hard with this piece. I've played it myself and it's pretty difficult. This boy definitely has a lot of potential and will become a great violinist. Not that he already isn't =)

    Keep on playing!

  • hes so cute xD and he sounds awesome!

  • ASIAN!

  • fantastic !

  • Tremendous ! Thank you !

  • I've been teaching violin for 40 years and I can tell that you are really focusing. Great tone and intonation!. Now try holding the last note longer and giving it a bit of VIBRATO! I bet that you are learning to do vibrato too! Keep on practicing and sometimes go outside and kick a soccer ball around to build up your stamina! All the best for a bright future! Never mind the comments from those who don't understand music and children or concentration. They lack respect!

  • That is not an unhappy look...it's a concentration look...If you look at a kid playing video games in high concentration they look the same...Is a intense look because the piece is VERY difficult...even the pro have problems playing it!

  • bouuuu le do # était faux, c est nuuulllll !!!! lol ^^ I'm gonna jump out the window...

  • He seemed to be scared in front of the crowd. And since this isn't an easy piece he probably focused on it so much he didn't care about how his facial expressions looked like. I bet after he got behind the shades, he runs to the arms of his parents and younger sister.. stuff like that.. Remember there are things that can't be without LOVE!

  • this child looks definitley unhappy....

  • he plays it fucking concentrated and good , one of the best interpretations on youtube. he might be not so musical (becuz he's 7 , for gods sake) , but he gets all voices out and he is very constant.

  • bravo, gracias, tank you magnifique

  • He's just concentrating on what he's doing. This is a very difficult song to play. There's form involved in playing the violin, and it isn't as effortless as he makes it look.

  • Reincarnation explains.

  • HE IS SO FORCED TO PLAY!... damn u asian exploters

  • I love seeing little people do great things! his options are broadened for career oppurtunities when he gets older and scholarships yayyy!

  • It's time more children were made to do this. They pay later by remaining on the unemployment scrapheap or in prison.

  • have you guys ever thought that the guy might be trying to focus on the notes? well sure it might look like its forced, but for such a small kid, he would have to concentrate on his playing, no time for thinking about smiling or anything... he isnt even looking at his fingers! applause i say!

  • wow

  • This poor kid ):

  • I can barely fart a tune than to ever play as good as this kid lol

  • fuck asian parents!!! he's not even having fun doing this.. "i better not fuck up, my mom's gonna beat my ass and i wont get dinner.."

  • @gruffryderw Looks like the Asians are taking over. The Western societies are going down hill. Poor behaviour, low accademic standards, pop musak and dept. The Western societies are heading for collapse. America will soon not be able borrow any more money. Show me a Western 3 year old who can play as well as that on the violin.

  • He look so sad for playing a happy piece.

  • Fabulous! What a talented little boy.

  • Damn! No one in my (unprofessional) school orchestra can play like that. They are in high school :)

  • by grown up standards this is not impressive play, since he is not focusing on the sound, but on the notes. however a mind of a child can without a doubt handle as complex issues as an adult. they do not have less capacity (rather the other way around) but less experience (with patterns of behavior etc.)

  • it's not music. it's circus

  • Kids dont need to be under this kind of pressure

  • No expression, No feel, only speed. Any fool can play fast.

He also looks as if he hates playing it.

And, He's slightly out of time

  • @tdude129 remember, even a pro violinist gets a serious face on when they play...takes considerable concentration.

  • im telling you man this asians are taking over........

  • That was superb that guy could be a prodigy!!!

  • this kid is amazing

  • Look at those fingers!

  • the sound so elegant so beautifull oh dear that brought a tear to my eye......keep it up kid your great

  • This shows that asian students are receiving a brilliant teaching method. It is full of little kids that are playing incredible dificult music. People who are critics in this field don't underestand a shit about how hard is to learn a piece as hard as this. It is a cliche now to say asian musicians are "soul less". But that is being said by fatasses that don't underestand what is the effort needed to become a musician. This kid is fantastic. He's on a good way. Excuse my english, please

  • omg...omg...

  • estoy en shock :|

  • This is the exact same melody as Bachs Sinfonia from his Cantata 29.

  • sound

  • what idiots dislike?

  • he got that "this is bs" look, i rather be playing nintendo DS

  • @gvillalon007 Honey, first of all, he is a 7 year old kid with an incredible talent. This gift allows him to play like a little god at this age, but I doubt his emotions and expressions have yet caught up. Those will come with time - at this point he is just playing because he CAN, soon as he grows up and understands the true power of the music, he will FEEL ... =) And by the way, just consider the possibility that every 5-7 yr old is not an idiot obsessed with nintendos .. =)

  • @ ssac13 that's because he is reading the music I am a musician and that's how I look because I am focused

  • oh my gosh he looks just like my friend!

  • Nagyon jó! :)

...bár azt nem hiszem, hogy ezt a kisfiút Bachnak neveznék (merthogy előadóként az ő neve van feltüntetve :P)

  • Мальчик - просто гений)))

  • @allfre2 I played this piece for my recital at this speed. I'm older than him and considered young for this piece. I'm not saying I'm perfect. He certainly COULD be perfect, he looks like a good violinist and a hard worker, but this is too advanced for him. I know this piece well, okay? I'm not just judging.

  • @allfre2 1) No, I am not! I never said he was bad. I'm just saying, he looks too small for this piece. ANY seven year old would be too small. Their fingers just aren't big enough.

    2) I played this for my recital. But I'm, older than him, and I am considered too young for this piece. Yes, this boy could DEFINITELY be a great violinist, but if he can't put in dynamics and squeaks at times, then this is not a good piece for him.

    3) Again, NOT CRITICIZING HIM!

  • Very good

  • Awwww how are you little boy?? This song is so hard to play! And you are so young! Good for you!!!!! I just think your violin is too big for you! But... practice makes perfect I'm sure you'll do fine! All the best!

  • Bach no querría esto... que forma de tocar es esta? un músico sin alma no es un músico.

  • Bach no querría esto... que forma de tocar es esta? un músico sin alma no es un músico.

  • allfre2 Sorry, but I agree with svjlightbulb. I'm not going to pretend that I could play this at 7 or that this kid is talentless.... However this performance lacks the slightest bit of emotion, as he is obviously to too young to PLAY this piece, rather than splurge out some notes in succession. He needs time to mature. I rather feel the saying Quality not Quantity is very relevant to this video.

  • Comment removed

  • He is WAY too young for this piece. His hands aren't big enough for the stretches, his bowing not advanced enough for the string crossing, and he doesn't have any dynamics. Plus he doesn't seem to enjoy the violin. I bet he can play well, but he needs more time to mature before he tries this piece.

  • @SVJLightBulb 1) Are you deaf?????

    2) i bet he plays better than you.

    3) you need time to mature before you criticize a 7 year old

  • it can't be.. this young fella is a machine!!!

  • When he grow up, there will be more passion on his playing, than at this age

  • OMG! It's a talent!

  • This makes me want to give up on everything I've ever attempted to do in my life. Ever. Really.

  • It's always the Chinese!

  • WOW!

  • He doesnt even seem to be having fun. its seems to me he is like forced to play.

  • Comment removed

  • @ssac13 Or he is just extremely concentrated ;)

  • @ssac13 That's because Asians have no emotions, DUH!!!

  • @ssac13 when playing an instrument, you don't need to be "physically emotioned", that's very true with violin; you must play with the most fixed possition as possible to avoid posture problems.

The emotion is inside, not outside.

  • @jubberti Yes. This is a very difficult piece. Intonation was very good. Sound quality very good. Articulation very good. Rhythm very good. Musicianship very good.

  • @ssac13 Oh come on. He's only 7. Unless he's a child prodigy...which I wouldn't really know about since I don't play violin, he's probably experiencing major stage fright.

  • @ssac13 thats actually quite common with Korean children. not the be racist or anything but i live in japan and all of my Korean friends were forced to study extremely hard and forced to learn an instrument at a very young age. so yes he probably is unhappy.

  • @ssac13 I SO DISAGREE with you interpretation...have you ever THOUGHT that maybe a 7 year old boy was actually CONCENTRATING beyond the ability of a young boy but one whose MIND was completely absorbed in the making of music! COME ON he never ONCE looks at his fingers! Come on! This little guy is so WONDERFUL!

  • @ssac13 He'll thank his parents later, I know I would

  • @ssac13 He is concentrating. I think this piece is too hard for him, as well as he does with it--which is extremely well. His intonation is not great. When Leila Josefowicz was 12 she said that she never practiced more quickly than she could play absolutely correctly and beautifully--that way she never learning mistakes. Anyway, this child has remarkable technique. All that string crossing! Whew!

  • @ssac13 Ewww....you're right O________O

  • @ssac13 I am going to force you to shut your ignorant mouth. The boy is trying to do his best in front of many guests, you moron.

  • I just hope that the parents don't force him to play the violin and he actually enjoys it, I'm a musician myself and you DON'T have to move like an epileptic to feel emotion when playing, some express themselves physically and some not!

  • @Inidiom it is impossible to play bach and donot enjoy!

  • Comment removed

  • @xKakaoBohnex

    err...don't you mean child? ._.

  • @yermomouo222221423

    oh I' m sorry :D:D:D

  • amazing boy!!

  • Very , very expressive! -pfff

  • he's asian don't count.

  • man hes so good

  • he plays like a machine, zero emotions

  • Not bad for a little kid :o

  • haha at 2:12 it looks like hes a little tired XD god this kid is flippin amazing!

  • y god y are all these kids asian im not bieng racist but y

  • OMG AN ANDROID THAT PLAYZ THE VIOLIN!?

  • @CNFrostXY .....No. People with absolutely NO musical background force their children into music, make them practice 4 hours, squeeze their passion. It's terrible.

This child looks like one of those kids. I'm not saying this isn't good, but I don't think he's ready for this piece and it looks like he's been forced into violin.

  • The boy is great. I would like him to continue on playing the violin. Yes I know that it's not up to me to decide but I gradually insist that he keeps on playing to his heart's content. Good luck! :)

  • OH MY GOD! I MEAN. WOW!

  • guau

  • He looks not happy.

Just this is absent with him. He plays for his age really well, however, a musician wants to point with his instrument emotionen he lacks this.

  • sehr sehr gut gespielt.Danke schön für dein Vidio

  • o_0 woh!!

  • Ok, so it's a bit mechanical... but any violinist will tell you that the Sonatas and Partitas are fabulously difficult. So he's not Nathan Milstein.... yet.

  • I'm so sick of people saying Asians are the smartest people in the world!!

Number 1 I have a sister (who's Asian) and she barely passed her exit test! And she has NEVER been on the honor roll. The only reason MOST Asians have this kind of talent is because their not lazy like MOST Americans. American kids are too busy listening to music and doing what they want to do. People don't understand without practice of this instrument or any other thing, This boy wouldn't even know how to hold the bow!

  • @DrakesBestFriend Your comment did'nt come off racist at all, just letting you know cause you dislike comments like that right?

  • @DrakesBestFriend Although I agree with you that Asians are not necessarily the smartest race on the planet (or maybe they are, but who cares??), but I have to disagree with you that all Americans are lazy because a lot of us are driven and always have been. I have had a 30 year career as a violinist, and a good one. This child is NOT your normal child. He is very talented. Very few kids, asian or otherwise, play at this level, even WITH practicing a lot, at age 7. You panties are in a twist!

  • Glad to see his bow technique has improved a lot since last year's vivaldi's performance. This is a very difficult piece even the professionals have problems playing it. Looking forward to how he progress...He's very gifted!!! Ask him to learn to complete Bach set and post it in youtube :) Great job!

  • its impressive considering his age, but there were a decent amount of mistakes. if he sticks with it, he'll be amazing

  • In their rush to get accomplishments they stomp all over class and dignity. Brow-beating your kid into doing this is the equivalent of buying a Cadillac and pulling it up to your shack in the ghetto...

  • damn asians they can do everything!!! ¬¬

  • Kids todays can do anything. I'm affraid at this rate any 30 yr old can be considered "too old" for whatever. sigh*

  • A difficult piece dude & one of my most favourites - I hope you have fun playing it too :)

  • dube bro

  • People should stop assuming that Asian prodigies are ALWAYS forced to practice. I can only say this because I'm asian and I've been learning 3 different classical instruments. Asian parents have higher standards and expectations, which eventually lead the kids to be the BEST. Stop judging the Asians because we do what we have to and is better than letting your kids do whatever he/she wants and end up messing their lives.

  • First you are admonishing viewers for making the assumption that "all Asians" prodigies are forced to practice. But you follow this with an assumption of your own...that "Asian parents have higher standards". Standards measured against what I may add? Different cultures define their own high standards. Hell in some cultures simply getting married, having children, and owning an ox is deserving of the highest standard of success. You can't claim higher standards by using your OWN measuring stick.

  • He looks like he's been locked away and forced to practice this piece so that he can play it ...almost...but beyond all the intonation problems and lack of phrasing...it feels forced and looks so detached from the piece and he stomps through it. He is just playing to a metronome beat and has no idea of the complexity of the piece, and why would be? It takes years to know this music!

All the phrases get worse as he slams through it.

Poor kid. Pushed on stage before the music is ready.

  • @Rexicano Hey, forgive this boy. He is only 7 yearold and feel nervous on the stage. Im now 17 and still cant smile when facing so many people playing violin. He did a great job.

  • @dollium1993

It's certainly NOT the kids fault.

It's the parent; and at the risk of sounding racist...I see this all the time with Asian parents.

They push the kids to perform pieces beyond their skill level and have no respect for the music. All are sure they have a little genius on their hands...but then they get to meet the competition some day who who was taught to play in tune with a real feel for the music, and THAT kid gets the gigs.

  • @Rexicano i agree, no respect for the music, gymnastics of classical music

  • @Ahelphand

Yeah, but it's gymnastics where the person keeps falling over and the parents still think they have a genius on their hands.

And what teacher in their right mind thinks this is a good piece for a kid who cannot play in tune.

I feel bad for the kid because you can see that with the right teacher he might do very well...but the old Suzuki Method says; go on stage and play out of tune without any understanding of phrasing...no problem!

  • where is he looking at, anyway :P

  • @MJLivesInMyHeart

nah, he looks focused on the song :)

  • wooooowww

  • asian chosaky

  • he's a robot

  • he just wrote that

  • my most awesome observation is he is not even looking at his violin!!! O.O

  • genial el pequeño virtuoso !!!! / esto es la diferencia de tomar en serio el estudio/ ayuda el pensamiento cultura y politico de cada pais!

  • i like how he doesnt even look at the strings

  • he plays perfect, not even one mistake

  • He's not playing like a robot: He is concentrating on what he is doing. Something most people never do. What he is not doing is mugging for the camera like a pop star.

  • holy friggen genius batman!

  • Wow... He kept his his right Pinky finger straight for 4 min and 10 sec. =)

  • Awsome :)

  • damm...

  • jesus. i can't wait to see him play in 30 years

  • like asians are so talented (and trying not to gloat or anything because I am asian and play violin too...) but a lot of then tend to play without showing emotion...and I know its probably how they were taught...but like what @freaker126 said, its like watching a robot...

  • it's like watching a robot playing ..

  • @freaker126 I agree XD but then again, he's still a child, so it's cute ^_^ If he were a teen, it wouldn't be.

  • @freaker126 He's a little kid....and great for his age, I have to say.

  • @freaker126 He's only 7! OK?? He's veryyy good for his age!!

  • @freaker126 If you have not learnt violin or about it... Keep quiet...... We just can't even be bothered to even laugh at you...

  • @CNFrostXY but hes right tho

if you play violin you would know

hes obviously very good but it feels like hes parents made him play or something....

  • @JYLEDH .... have you learnt violin? or is your memory so bad that you forgot the first few years where you have to stand in a strict upright position and keep your elbows and everything rigid..... Parents would not make their child to play an instrument unless their whole family are musicians, it is usually the child's own interest in the musical instrument he is playing, the parents only guide them to make sure they don't just pick it up and lose it half way.

  • @CNFrostXY Actually I only had to do that for the first three month because I wasn't those talentless people that got stuck at Suzuki 3 for years. And obviously this kid is good enough to be past that stage

and you said parents will not force their kids to play an instrument but for some reason there were a lot of chinese kids at my school playing a violin. Im sure there is no way that many chinese kids all suddenly wanted to play violin

  • @JYLEDH Don't make assumptions, if the parents do force the child to play an instrument most of the time it is because the family is all in the music industry. I know these because I have met endless numbers of people in these situations. For those whos family are not in the music industry they are probably only learning an instrument just as a hobby and they won't be forced to practice unless they like playing. You need actually go talk to those people don't just assume things.

  • @JYLEDH Besides most violin proffessors in music schools, if they start teaching a complete beginner to the violin they will tell their students to maintain the position even if they can play paganini, not just for three months but for about a year. Besides, this child is only 7 it is obvious he needs to maintain in this position, if you are going to sacrifice music by moving around then you are not taking violin seriously, they are show offs.

  • @CNFrostXY @CNFrostXY "most violin proffessors in music schools, if they start teaching a complete beginner to the violin they will tell their students to maintain the position even if they can play paganini, not just for three months but for about a year." hmmm... how do you know that? sounds like you just pulled it out of your ass.

Anyway the original point is that the kid plays like a robot. And there is no arguing there

Ive looked at his recent video and he still plays that way

  • @JYLEDH Exactly, my point is that "this kid plays like a robot" is a stupid worthless comment. What is the point?

  • @CNFrostXY I dont get why "this kid plays like a robot" is a stupid worthless comment

check out video of Johnathan playing violin

he's three and he doesn't play like a robot which is why I think your "most violin professors make you play like a robot for a year even if you are good" is bullshit

Music is suppose to be enjoyable and the kid plays like he doesn't really enjoy it (back to my forced by parent theory)

  • @JYLEDH Well you don't have to stay in that position if you don't want to pursue to a proffesional classical music career. As I stated earlier, if this kid was really forced his parents are probably musicians. And tell me how is that comment even meaningful? That just shows the people who comment like that are jealous, nothing more, get real, stop pretending. I KNOW alot of violin students taught proffesionally by music school prof.s that's why I stated that earlier. Look at the violin size...

  • @CNFrostXY like the other guy said, really its parents who have almost no musical background force their child

because they don't know what music is about and

All I said in my comment is that the kid is good but he plays like he is being forced

I dont see how I was pretending or being jealous because I said what I was seeing and apparently like half the viewers saw the same thing

I was saying it because I was genuinely concerned that maybe his parents are taking the fun out of music

  • @JYLEDH nah in fact most parents who force their child to play is because both parents are musicians... I'm serious....I know far too many people who were forced to play when they were young just because their parents are musicians... and their parents chose the instrument for them so they could 'play along with their parents'... One of them was a classmate of Lang Lang.. he was forced to play clarinet to match the family quartet... and if he didn't practice he was beaten....

  • @JYLEDH Ok I believe that you are being genuine, but most people who state the comment 'it's like watching a robot playing' is obviously not concerned but just being pretencious and jealous... think about it....

  • @JYLEDH Ok even if you want to ignore everything I said earlier note one thing! remember I asked you to just simply go ask your friends who play violin and ask them about some of the details since you said you know all these chinese kids who play violin. Simple. That will solve all the mysteries... perhaps... Instead of just posting randomly here... it's meaningless...

  • @CNFrostXY you never asked me to ask my friends. And obviously I already did. Otherwise I wouldn't have said the things I said. I just hope his parents don't push him too hard because that takes the fun out of music and he will undoubtedly quit

  • @JYLEDH I did ask you to ask your friends... anyway so your friends are all /mostly forced by their parents completely?.... where are you from by the way....

  • @CNFrostXY from LA. Most of them were forced by their parents but I wouldn't say completely

Their parents chose the instrument for them and made them practice and most of them only joined Orchestra because its easy and good for college (I dont talk to everyone in the orchestra so im talking bout my friends). Ive recently talked to like 6 guys on facebook and they don't play violin or cello anymore

although two of them play guitar

  • @JYLEDH I see... easier to get in college with an instrument in America? That is qui
