  • My God. Winston is played by the guy who played Sutler in V for Vendetta. Mind=blown!

  • chuck norris is big brothers big brother

  • @kandmwood1 Do people still make with the Chuck Norris jokes?!

  • He loved Big Brother.

  • 2+2=5!

  • Don't plan to ever watch this, the book was too good, I don't want this making me see the book differently.

  • John Hurt is perfect for the role! I love how they made him kinda look like Orwell.

  • I would probably be arrested for fartcrime

  • still reading the book. Will watch the movie after. Hope this crappy 80s music isn't all over the film because the book isn't exactly screaming for cheesy 80s music

  • 14 people committed thoughtcrime.

  • i was born in 1994..damn missed it by 10 years

  • People should learn from this book that the government or the powers that be know more than they say and always will.

  • cunts fucked if it happens

  • @jack29292 when it happens

  • @MrJambones to true MRjumbones :D

  • A horrid 80's song for a movie that doesn't promote mediocrity. Who made this trailer so i can kick their ass?

  • i was born in 84 baby

  • I just came here because i just read that Android phones record user-locations according to research on the english newspapper The Guardian. So I believe that this is not only a great movie but also a preview for our future!!!

PS: that scares me a lot!

  • SEXSEXSEXSEXSEXSEXSEXSEXSEXSEX SEXCRIME! :P Totally using this video for my school projet :P

  • Read the Book. Change Your Life. Solve The Problem.

  • "Big brother is watching"

  • SEX IS CRIME

  • Would have been awesome if it came out on April 4, 1984

  • @Childist2 No, but it was filmed over that time :)

  • Honestly, I think that the people screaming "OMFG 1984 IS ALREADY HERE!", are over-reacting; if what they're saying is true, then they shouldn't be able to say it. Now that's not to say that it COULDN'T happen, but I don't think people will take your points seriously if you just jump to such rash conclusions; look at how people are viewing the Tea Party.

  • @Funkybob2

If you want to talk about a novel's predictions coming true, I think that Fahrenheit 451 is more accurate, at least in the 1st-world countries, considering the severely diminishing interest in books and the emphasis being placed on "political correctness". And no, the irony of this post isn't entirely lost on me.

  • @Funkybob2 "The devils best trick is to make us think he doesnt exist"

  • probably the only time i liked a book i had to read for school

  • they should make a new 1984 film, and by "they" i mean someone other then hollywood, otherwise the story would lose all of its "distopian" qualities and turn out to be just another movie about good over evil, personal triumph, love, and all the other garbage hollywood makes.

  • Worse part is the shit already happened, The level of 1984 is an extreme and is pretty much the end when it's fully realized, but we already their, it will only be a matter of time when we reach 1984s level.

  • the song is all wrong - it makes it seem happy 0_0

  • The song on this trailer is like putting on Britney Spears to watch a holocost video.

  • The song and the album by Eurythmics are both marvellous. What some commentors here seem to not understand is that the music is actually portraying the musical landscape of the Orwell dystopy, the type of robotic pop music you would hear if you turned on a radio in Oceania. The song "Doubleplusgood" is the best example, where the song itself becomes an obnoxious commercial for Oceania and its ideology. The album stands on its own feet as an artistic interpretation of Orwells novel.

  • @willythekidkatt I agree.

    The song *makes* the trailer.

  • hey don't forget your meds buddy!

    ;-)

  • I have just finished part 1 of the book and I am amazed. I was astonished even from the first page. Orwell was so ahead of his time with this book.

  • How the hell is this nice?! I rather fight than obey!

  • Greatest book I have ever opened up....From the first sentence, I was addicted.... PS, I do not even really like to read, but this book sent chilles down by spine... Books normally don't have that impact on me lol...

  • Big Brother Is Watching!

  • @Morgethein That's actually what Orwell's widow told the director of the movie: Don't use any big effects.

  • This is possibly the best book to movie adaptation ever.

  • this book and this writter change my life and my point of view about life....

WE ARE LIVING IN THE "ORWELL´S SOCIETY"....

(i cant understand why that song¡¡¡?????)

  • When the film first came out I thought that the Eurythmics soundtrack/ theme song was wrong for the bleak dystopia of the book and the film. The concept of 1984 was that it could be anytime in the future, but this synthpop song firmly roots the film in the real 1984, and nothing dates a film like a contemporary pop song for a theme tune. Some studio exec who'd never even heard of Orwell probably got cold feet when he saw how depressing the film looked to the all important yoof demographic.

  • Pure Genius!

  • ugh, havent we had enough remakes?! just let this one be.

  • yeah... but... HD!!!

  • we need a new 1984 movie .....with todays technology this could be a blockbuster if its done correctly

  • @jaguarhero no we don't and especially not a blockbuster, that's taking a shit on such an amazing book, they should keep faithful to the story and not focus on action if there is ever another film

  • It really is unfortunate that all the trailers for this film have obnoxious generic 80s music playing in the background. It says nothing about the movie itself.

  • the song is full of energy and makes you wanna dance but the movie isnt that way so it kinda doesnt fit

  • SEX

    CRIME

  • ha..what a joke,it is.

  • Think about it though.

It isn't just fear it's doubt. Those two combined create more of a weakness then love creates strength. If people ever let something like this happen, it will be over an extremely slow course of time. like frogs being boiled.

People wouldn't overthrow it because it would be nature to them.

The party gets rid of free thinking, so why question it?

so maybe a few would, but they can be done away with or "changed".

    It's very logical really.

no one wants to risk their own life.

  • Well maybe we are. But people discussing this matter tend to forget that a lot of people see through these lies, especially the governments. I'm not saying that people like us (even considering something like propaganda) are the masses, because clearly we aren't, I'm just saying that symbols all have different meanings but the root to those ideas are still the same. And your idea seems appropriate, still people have the power to change. That's the only thing separating us from the animals.

  • Worst song to use for the trailer.haha

  • As funny as this comment supposedly should be, it actually shows people have no knowledge of symbolism? :)

  • It is all happening so slowly, that not many will notice when big brother will show himself at it's fullest and books like this and many more things will be errased from the past, and vanish away. We must open our eyes to the truth now, before it's too late

  • George Orwell could definitely see into the future. As you are reading this the government can check into your computers. And when you use your cell phone later, Big Brother will know where you are and what you are doing. I'm sure it's really possible for something like this book to really happen. Think about it.

  • The music in this trailer doesn't suit it...

  • this is a terrific movie.

  • Why such a happy trailer if the movies so drepressing

  • Pause at 00:18.

    XD

  • What am I looking at?

  • Julia's face. She's making a face that resembles: :B

  • I'm sorry. It's at 00:17.

It's kind of hard to see it. You have to play/pause a few times to get it.

  • smoke boobs?

  • No! JULIA'S FACE! If you pause it correctly, it may take trial and error, she looks like a goober.

  • ok lets give it an other try :)

  • I believe the imprisionment and Room 101 was done perfectly but the ending was totally off. I didn't care for the ending much, but it was overall a very nice film.

  • After I read the book I watched this trailer. Marvelous cast I must say. John Hurt is excatly that Winston Smith I imagined. And Richard Burton... No-one would have been a better choice for O'Brian.

  • If there ever will be a remake of this film (which I doubt) I think a perfect actor for playing O'Brian would be Tom Wilkinson.

  • this is going to be soon

  • Is it just me or does the theme really fit the movie?

  • I love the upbeat theme, it really complements the theme of the novel!

*proceed to shoot myself in the head*

  • North Korea lol

  • sorry but the music doesn't fit , pop dance never fits cyberpunk , they should have a least used vangelis

  • True but 1984 is NOT cyberpunk

  • it is actually it is classed as cyberpunk , just metropolis 1927 is , it what heavily influenced the dystopian future setting for most cyberpunk tales like equilibrium , it has the constant surveillance like seen in thx 1338 , remember cyberpunk doesn't always have to be in cyberspace ,

  • They employed some doublethink with the song for this trailer. On one hand you've got the narrator and the scenes portraying it as something very serious, and you have some shitty pop song playing in the background. The other trailer remains faithful.

  • LOL

  • the soundtrack is so not suiTABLE FOR 1984

  • The problem is that actually was made in 1984. It would have been better if it was 1994.

  • why?

wouldnt you make a film of a year when it was made

like 1984 was made in 1984

  • At the end of the credits it says that was made between two dates like was predicted by George Orwell (April to August 1984). This movie Instead of a future prediction like was the book, it was made like a distopic present, like a "what if...?"

  • If a new film of 1984 were to be made (as I've heard it will be next year, but don't quote me on that), they could explain the date as the 'future' away by saying the year is whatever the party dictates it to be. For all they know, it could be 2084.

  • Tim Robbins was working on a screenplay, but I heard he gave up on it. I don't think he has the funds... What a shame. This is a movie people really need to see.

  • And above all this is a book everybody ought to read.

  • Unfortunately if anything's going to get through to people these days, it most certainly won't be in the form of a book. It's a sad sad truth.

  • Unfortunately you're right. Not too many people read books these days.

  • @Spinking11 It makes sense why they used an 80's electro song for the movie only because of the title "1984"...

  • @Spinking11 more like 1984 music meets 1984 the novel

  • @Spinking11

Absolutely right. They should have taken the national anthem of Oceania as soundtrack instead.

    This trailer is irritating.

All those explosions are giving one the impression, as if 1984 would be some kind of war / action movie.

The soundrack of the Eurythmics and this trailer must have been the idea of some shallow minded marketing strategists.

  • @Spinking11 yeh its well gay

  • @Spinking11 its ironic to the video, creating a very surreal effect

  • The best book i've ever read in my life.

The book's better than the movie (as often).

A must read for any human being.

  • @ :58 self assured, calmly and quietly: "If you want a vision of the future, Winston; imagine -- a boot -- stamping on a human face forever."

  • Why the hell wasn't this song in the movie? I actually like it. They could've at least put it in the credits or something.

  • Eurythmics- Sex Crime (1984)

  • nvm i just realized you weren't asking for that...

  • Had they shown the celebration of the Africa victory at the end, I could imagine Oceania's citizens partying to this song.

  • We already have a start its called Department of Homeland Security. All these stupid airplane laws. They might as well put a camera on every person on a plane while their all naked for the whole trip so that nobody does anything

  • That could perhaps create a more memorable flight?;D

  • There are two rooms 101 in China Communist Emperor which are Hong Kong and Taiwan

They maintain the Chinese traditional culture but the mainland Maoism Emperor destory our self-will and some parts of over 5000 years old culture, such as music,books,gasture...

The traditional Chinese are not as rough as the Chinese on the new age, they used to be the world strongest & finest country...

but the strongest from now US and British forgive the Big brother...2084 is coming

  • what a shit song for a brilliant story

  • according to wikipedia, there is a dvd released in 2004 that includes only the original score (classical), but it was discontinued shortly after.

  • the director, michael radford, was really upset that the studio forced him to use the eurythmics soundtrack. he didn't want any pop music in his film, and there was an original score written for the whole movie...

stupid commericialism ruins the best works of art. luckily you can find the proper version on DVD

  • i actually like this trailer the best, but that's probably because of my bias with 80s pop

  • the sex crime techno music ruins it. but john hurt ftw!

  • "Big brother is watching you"

  • "Who controls the past now controls the future, who controls the present now!!!" Now TESTIFY!!!!

  • "He who controls the past commands the future, he who commands the future...conquers the past" -Kane

  • "Who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past."

  • wow... John Hurt is one of my favorite actors of all time, and I really like the novel 1984 ... but this trailer makes this movie look reeaally bad.

  • yeah what was with the techno music?

  • Didn't like the movie much - the story was suitable for a novel, but when translated on-screen, it was just plain boring. The book was amazing though - I'm surprised I didn't like the movie as it did actually seem so similar.

  • The thing is the Goldstien's book is the real focus of the book, here the story is the main attraction. They did a great job adapting it (storywise disregarding Goldstien's book) there were many details like the contents of the cigarretes falling off that made me think they did their homework...

  • I actually finished reading the book yesterday. It was pretty good.

  • What the heck is this song?!

  • the song is 'Sex Crime' by the Eurythmics

  • Wasn't this one of the inspirations for Fallout?

  • I'm not sure but I wouldn't doubt it. I love that series to death, so underrated.

  • I don't think so. The main inspiration for fallout are Mad Max/Road Warrior series.

  • Only more retro.

They had a spiritual ancestor in Wasteland.

  • what were the thinking when they made this film....

If these rumors are true of christian bale being Winston, Christian Bale will enter the realm of greatest actors of a generation.

  • They did a old black and white version of it, so I guess they just thought it was time for a remake. The soundtrack is a bit gay.

    R they doing another remake?

  • Should rename it Obama.

  • yes thats clever you're clever you

  • What a scary life.

  • A fantastic movie and a fantastic adaptation of the book.

  • The start of change

  • They're making a remake of 1984 next year. I think Christian Bale would make a good WInston, he was brilliant as Cleric John Preston in a similar themed film, Equilibrium.

  • r they really??? hells yes!!

  • From what I've been hearing they are going to start shooting the remake sometime next year.

  • What strikes me at the end of 1984 when Winston is "re-educated" via MiniLuv, could he still have remants of his previous thoughts and engage into doublethink once again to rally against Big Brother???

  • The music they chose is shite. What were they thinking?

  • Obama= 1984

  • Is this footage of a McCain/Palin rally?

  • Yeah, because Palin is the one pushing for socialism.

DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT SOCIALISM IS????

Obama is ten times more of a big government, take away freedom of speech and guns, socialist that McCain and especially Palin ever dreamed of being. Read up on socialism and then decide whether you want to vote for a guy who promises to take care of all your nanny state needs.

  • No it's palins home movies. She rolls like Dr. Doom in her private Latveria.

  • i think the music is really eerie. I likeit

  • WTF??

that song is sooo far from the real spirit of 1984. it sounds like a Flash Gordon movie.

man, is it a coincidence that Ingsonc "V" and "V" for Vendetta? I think Moore and Lloyd push to far in their tribute grafic novel.

  • I hadn't thought about the V thing. I was thinking the exact same thing about the music though. (shudders) Admittedly, the music is depressing and scary in its own way.

  • What the hell are you complaining about? "80's pop music in the soundtrack." ...The year the film came out was in fact 1984. The Eurythmics were one of the biggest groups at that very time. The song playing in the trailer is entitled, "Sexcrime (1984)." It's a dark dance single that was a hit, and one of the best songs the band ever released. Anything that might get young people interested in a seriously depressing albeit intense movie about the great book "1984" works wonders for me.

  • Nicely put!

  • moron...

  • Does Winston sound like Kane from "Alien" or Sutler from "V for Vendetta" to you? I do. Winston is portrayed by John Hurt who was in Alien in 1979 as Thomas Kane (in the film, he has no first name) and would portray Adam Sutler in "V for Vendetta" based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Lloyd and it's James McTeigue's first film. REMEMBER THIS.

  • We can see this every day in the USA now. When will people say enough is enough.

  • i totally agree with that statement. in school i have a sociology class. In our text book it says that the government can break into your house tap into your computer and wire it so they always know what you type or do on the internet. Also the government can go into your savings and take money out. It made realize that George Orwell's theory is very realistic and very scary.

  • The use of the Eurythmics is totally stupid. It's far too upbeat for both the subject matter and pace of the film.

    Bizarre.

  • I agree, I don't really understand why they would use that. Apart from drawing attention.

  • that's probably it. but it's not that bad. i enjoyed it

  • Interesting. It's one of the best books I've ever read.

  • remember the lessons Orwell taught us.

  • Looks like north Korea...oh hang on a minute...This IS north korea!!!

    1984 = North Korea

  • This is by the same author who did Animal Farm, but what amazes me is that this film is that it came out 15 years before that crap movie version of AF. It was a great book though.

  • Why are the trailers mostly much more better, and have better atmosphere, than the movie itself?

  • cause all the emotions you experience watching the entire movie are shrinked in a time leap of a couple of minute, therefore you perceive it more intensely

  • my favourite movie ever

  • Gotta read this book now!!

  • Definately read the book, it's bloody brilliant

  • where can i watch it??? i dont wanna read the book

  • Read the book. You are american?

    You should read.

  • the book is definitely worth reading

  • "....the clocks were striking thirteen...."

  • Read the book!

you should read sometime, north american asshole

  • suk my dik im north american and i read 1984 rules!!!!

  • You can read? Now, learn to spell and punctuate........

  • read the damn book. my personal favorite.

  • I heard the book was wayyyyyy better than the movie.

  • yeah, i is, the book is awesome!!!!!!!!! I also saw the play, which is pretty good too.

  • What the hell was the purpose of aligning Big Brother's eyes with Orwell's?

  • Is this the English Version?

  • Or the newspeak version?
