Amazing.. but remember L'Hymne a l'amour was written a month before Marcel Cerdan's death.. but she did sing it right after.. very sad, poor Edith.. Repose en paix
That was honestly a genius buildup, how she had gotten him coffee and went back to get his gift. I was definitely not expecting that, and it still to this day brings me to tears. So intense...
love the movie - have the dvd of 'La Mome' as well as 'La vie en rose' and had the privelege of meeting with Marion last year in Paris - such a pretty woman.
Anyone who has a doubt about Marion Coutillard's Oscar should view this scene a few times over. What a performance! Likewise, what a beautifully crafted movie - the transition from Piaf's apartment to the stage is a masterful piece of film making. Tres splendid!!
I'm not into the 'We French are good in acting' but really Marion is good here try to feel the sadness in her voice even if you don't understand French, it's amazing :'(
The whole scene is also done in ONE continuous shot!!!! Yes, this scene alone is mind boggling to me....even if La Cotillard doesn't make one movie more in her career this cements her as a phenomenal actress....
This is one of the greatest film sequences in the history of cinema. Great performance by Marion Cotillard, she absolutely deserved all her best actress awards. Really love the song Hymne a l'amour, one of my favorite songs, so beautiful and heartwarming. Bravo!!!
this is simply one of the most fantastics scenes in cinema everr!!! I just enjoy and love MARION COTILLARD'S performance!!! I felt in heaven and hell when I saw it!! She really deserve that Oscar!! go marion!!!
It will be for me the best ever sequence in a movie!!!!!!! Marion you deserve it so much!
GOLDEN GLOBE, BAFTA, CÉSAR AND THE OSCAR!!!!
I saw the movie 6 times in the cinema !! so emotional, a wonderfull tribute to Edith Piaf ! ang Olivier Dahan, my compatriote from La Ciotat good job! I wish to meet you once!
Does anyone have the full scene, when Marcel comes to her and she doesn't know yet that he died? I know it used to be on YouTube, and I really really need it for a presentation in school on Monday. I have the DVD, but I can't show the scene on the DVD in school, it just doesn't work out. Help pleeeeeeease!! :)
The story says Edith Piaf actually went onstage the same evening she got the news Marcel had died, and that she wrote these beautiful lyrics about their love affair; in that aspect this scene is magnifiscent!

This is an atrocious translation, too literal, but the last line is accurate at least!
We will be together for all eternity
In the blue of the whole immensity
In Heaven, no more problems
My love, believe that we love each other
God reunites those who love each other.

Thank you so much. Her words are so absolutely beautiful.

more like
We will have eternity for ourselves
In the blue and all its immensity
In Heaven, no more problems
My love, do you think we love each other?
and then the last line is right :P
