  • Yup, was fake. Nice demo though (except to an engineer trained in the period!)

  • @dpsherry and our friendly imperialist - of course the sequence was set up - it was in a film! Mind you, I wasn't there on the day... can anyone comment on whether this technique was actually undertaken 'for real' by engineers / mine disposal personnel at the time?

  • I have to assume this video is a recreation, perhaps using a disarmed land mine. I am not saying that soldiers didn't do this sort of thing all the time (I know *I* wouldn't). I'm saying that very few cameramen are willing to get that close! And then there's "Guys, could we do a second take? Jan was standing in the way..."

  • wouldn't it have been faster/safer to simply tie a rope around that handle looking bit and pull the thing? I figure it would at least save them from messing around with it two inches from their face for however long they did.

  • There was an article from SOF Magazine about the different Ops that happened back in the late 70s, one story was that a foot patrol was travalling through the bush, and heard a massive explosion, the troop hurried to where the explosion was and found a crater in the middle of the nearby road and pieces of insergents up in the trees,

Boy, looks like someone " Blew it "

  • These guys show that silly out of context american film 'Hurt Locker' is just promoting american heroism!

My Dad fought in the 'Hurricane' area from 1976-79, and Mum lived there on thier farm.

  • Excellent, Thanks form the post.
