A #1 hit for Herb Alpert on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It was the 106th #1 song on this chart. It also hit #1 on the Top 40 charts and #3 in the United Kingdom.
I'm 20 years old and I've been listening to Herb Alpert for about three years now. I read the comments and in a way I envy all the people that were around when this music was in. It's a shame what music now is. It's terrible. I don't really have anybody to share this type of music with so I'll just enjoy it by myself. I simply love it and I will pass it on to my future kids and they will pass it on to their kids and so on..
@MozLuv59 its so true. but people like you will keep these songs alive. I love this song, and I'm only 15, so don't worry. There's people out there that enjoy this music too!
@MozLuv59 Don't become morose, my friend. I've noticed more and more positive comments by young people who think these oldes are great! Burt Bacharach wrote the music and Hal David wrote the lyrics. Most of their songs were done by Dion Warwick, Jackie Deshannon and Dusty Springfield. Some groups did their music too. My favorite is "You'll Never Get To Heaven" done by The Stylistics around 1972. Don't be too concerned, you'll find that special someone to share this wonderful music with.
I love his Tijuana Brass stuff as well, it's so jolly. If I get a bit depressed I put it on and have a dance to it. But this is so romantic, so beautiful. Thanks for posting it.
I'M 61 years old now. 1968 seems so far away. Sometimes I will go back and sit on the river bank where Annie and I would sit and watch the water slowly pass on It's way to the sea. It took a part of us with it. A long kiss would seem to stop the river and time, and for a moment we lived in the eternal present. Much too soon she, like that span of river, was gone. I've never loved that way again.
That's a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing. My generation and future generations will never be able to understand a world like that. It all seems so perfect.
@Duranygirl Thank you for your comment. I often think about what you said. I have found myself at a loss for words. I guess I assumed that what I had experienced would be something that you, your generation and future generations could experience too. I feel sad to think that the world has changed so much that the world I knew is gone forever. Surely, there must be a way to find a simple kind of place and time where you too could experience what I did. With all my heart, I hope so.
@OPNURISYDER...as a 46 year old and being with my wife since 1986 I cannot imagine how you feel. I am sorry to hear about Annie. What great memories you must have with her....time certainly zooms by and I wish most people would realize how fast life is, May you always have great loving memories and I wish you the very best.
@jchez1965 Thank you so much for such a nice comment. I am happy that you have a wife to share your life with. You are still young and have time to make many more memories together. She is a gift that has been given to you and you are a gift that has been given to her. Make every moment special because, as you said, time "zooms" by. I hope you and your wife will be blessed with many "magic moments" that will bring a lifetime of Joy.
@theboathatfucked Thank you for your nice comment. I hope that you and everyone will be able to experience that kind of love. I don't mean to sound negative, but it does seem to me that maybe a love like that comes as a gift that is only given once in a life time. You will certainly know when it happens. You will feel your heart fly away into the heavens, where it is free to dance among the stars.
@TheOwl I am so happy for you. This is a wonderful gift that has been given to you. Sometimes it is only given once in a lifetime. Love this special person with all your heart and never let it go.
@OPNURISYDER That's a very beautiful and sad story. You were so lucky to find a love like that. Many people never find that in a lifetime. Personally this song reminds me of my childhood and I can still see my dad sing it to my mum. Happy days.
@atowngirl50 Yes, I was very lucky. To have someone like Annie come into your life more than once would be asking too much. One of my friends back then told me, "Life is good now. You and Annie share the most wonderful romance I could ever imagine. I thought that what you have only took place in dreams." You and I are both lucky to have a beautiful song like this that can bring back such sweet memories. Your dad loves your mum very much.
Love this tune, it's great whoever sings it - Burt Bacharach is one of the greatest songwriters ever. My personal favourite version is Noel Gallagher's one.
Beautiful video...I notice Herb had quite a few made by the water.....the ocean, streams....love you Herb....God Bless & thanks for the beauty you added to this world.....thank you for posting it as well..-;)
@kiatmac Isn't the woman in the video Herb Alpert's first wife? I think he was married to her at the time. It was the studio's idea to put her in the video.
I had never known how great this song was. I just heard it on a collection of songs done for Pirate Radio movie. It's on the CD and sounded great. Nice. I remember it being on the radio all the time in the early 70's. Just never noticed it or the quality of the writing and singing.
Glad that Herb put his horn down long enough to sing this beauty ... Burt Bacharach is a genius ..."my hands are shaking." .... great stuff .... thanks kiatmac1
@Winterstick549 Burt Bacharach wrote this song and even had to convince Herb to sing it. Hert didn't think that he could pull it off. And to answer your first question, Herb sang a duet with his wife. It was on his "Keep Your Eyes on Me" album. It never got air time at all But this is also a great song. The title of this song is "Pillow."
BOY!!! What memories this brings back. I can still see his face, his smile, and feel his touch when I danced with him for the first time to this song with Herb Alpert singing.. that was over 30 years ago.. and this song brings it all back in a rush.. could listen over and over

@IRONMANHONDO87 Lighten up Hondo!!! @abadipioh What's National Socialism necessarily got to do with Jews anyway. Stupid American fuckwit. You wouldn't know what Nazi even stands for. If you are a democrat you believe in the rule of the majority. If the majority doesn't like a minority, then that's just bad luck, bitch!
I remember as a small girl,my father would put all of us[my 9 sisters and brothers] in the family car and take us to Philly to see our cousins,I always knew when we were close..Because we would here this song.We were coming from Maryland. I love this song
@abadipioh Jews wouldn't have any music if they hadn't stolen it from other cultures. Almost all of the famous ones have surnames made up of words from medieval German. Without German culture they would have nothing. Haven't seen many Einsteins from North Africa.
@aussiechiro YOu are a jackass. Why don't you go to stormfront and have fun with the other Jew haters? This guy has a lovely voice and its a lovely song. Cant you jewhaters resist throwing your hatred into every situation that involves a Jewish person? What a piece of s h i t you are.
@10Tuxedo So true! Summer of 1968...what great memories. This is one of those songs that instantly takes me back to another place and time....a better place and time.
I remember this song being released. It opened my eyes that he was not just a great Trumpet player, but a sensitive guy with a sense of vulnerability to sing out his heart..
Great risk worth taking. Kind of reminds me of "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"
Fabulous song - I was 14 when this was released and how I would have loved to have been the girl with Herb - he was SO GORGEOUS, and this video seemed like the epitomy of romance to me...whatever happened to that teenager whose head was so full of stars..... I guess she's still there somewhere, just older!!
I wasn't even alive when this song came out, but my parents were. This song reminds me of when I was little, and I love it. Music transcends generations.
Herb Alpert sang this song first on 1968 television special named..... "The Beat Of The Brass" and in response to numerous viewer telephone calls, the song was released as single and reached #1 billboard on June, 1968 for 4 weeks! This song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and recorded by Alpert!
I was on facbook the other day and they have this website you can connect to , to see what song was on the top ten the year and date you were born. Apparently this song was number 1 on the 23 rd of June 1968 , my birthday , and also my mothers 21st birthday. Very sweet song.
If anybody would like to learn this song on piano i've just uploaded a tutorial for it. Such a lovely song I had to learn how to play it. Take a look if you would like learn it as well. Thanks
Story is as follows: Two days before the recording the band got drunk and during a prank gone wrong Herb's trumpet was shoved in a New York Central Park horse's ass so he was really disgusted at the possibility of recording an instrumental so soon and he requested Bacharach for a song with lyrics so his trumpet solo wouldn't last so long that the revulsion would make him puke. Hence this great song. Herb wasn't impressed but as long as he didn't get to taste horse ass longer than needed...
I think this is the first time Herb sang on a recording since he sang Alley Ooo with the Holywood Argyles

We're all on the same road: looking for LOVE.
Love, Love, Love; all you need is love!!!
It doesn't matter how you try to reach God -- just so you keep trying.
The "winners" all end-up in the same place.
It's just that some roads are easier than others. Personally, I cheat - I use the LOVE of God to reach God. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.
Love your neighbors as yourself: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. (:

@abadipioh What's National Socialism necessarily got to do with Jews anyway. Stupid American fuckwit. You wouldn't know what Nazi even stands for. If you are a democrat you believe in the rule of the majority. If the majority doesn't like a minority, then that's just bad luck, bitch!

I remember as a small girl,my father would put all of us[my 9 sisters and brothers] in the family car and take us to Philly to see our cousins,I always knew when we were close..Because we would here this song.We were coming from Maryland. I love this song
jhonecs 8 months ago
@abadipioh Jews wouldn't have any music if they hadn't stolen it from other cultures. Almost all of the famous ones have surnames made up of words from medieval German. Without German culture they would have nothing. Haven't seen many Einsteins from North Africa.

@aussiechiro Like you need to have your brain worked on. Obviously you are gay.

Yep. It was, But I didn't know "This Guy is in Love" was penned by Burt B. Thanks,

I remember this song being released. It opened my eyes that he was not just a great Trumpet player, but a sensitive guy with a sense of vulnerability to sing out his heart..
Great risk worth taking. Kind of reminds me of "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"

@headshrink1 Good ear. I think 'Raindrops' was penned by Burt B. , as well. The man is a tune-smith extraordinaire.
