I am glad I am Catholic. I just to to confess my sins to a priest and he can't tell anyone. It actually encourages me to say all my sins and want to be better(: All glory to God♥
I finally confessed that I struggle with self mutilation to my three best friends a couple a weeks ago and I have already felt the change in y relationship with Jesus. This is soo true, I have grown SO much closer to God because of this.

Well i think why people do this is because we know God will always forgive and accept us but we are not sure if other people will forgive us and accept us
I believe most Christians, including me are afraid to admit their sins to people. I hate to say it but most Christians be the most judgmental people, so most of us are scared to confess. I know that it may be better if everyone showed the love of Christ, but many people condemn you to hell and offer no help. The Bible says if any man is overtaken with fault,ye that are spiritual, restore one another, lest you also be tempted. we are the body of Christ, we need each other!
I've struggled with being able to confess to other believers my whole life, but thank God He has brought me to where I have confessed my major struggles with fellow believers! Its hard, but freeing--& Biblical! James 5:16 is true. It's NOTHING to do with the false Catholic church. It's not about confessing to a priest (CHRIST is the high priest!) it's about the PRAYER, ACCOUNTABILITY and the HEALING that comes from that. It's the fellowship of realizing you can't do it by yourself HE is enough
it's not confession to another human being to be forgiven by God. Christ is the High Priest!
It's accountability. Love. Prayer. Fellowship. Encouragement. Forgiveness. Bearing each others Burdens. Picking up your brother or sister when they fall.
The best part of this, it's never too late. NEVER. No matter what you have done, or how big you've done, you are forgiven. The word says, there is no big and a little sin. Once you sinned, that's that. But god loves us so much, he is forgiving us from that, because he knows we are more, and when you confess, that's when your free, that's when the healing, begins. :) don't be afraid. God is right there by your side. Even when you dont feel him. GBU!!!
i totally agree.. but at the same time i think we can admit that to god is because most of us now that no matter what god loves us.. we are afraid that if we tell people about our sine.. there ideas and feeling towards us will change for the worse.... just i hypothetical
A pastor asked once in a meeting, why we sometimes worry about pleasing people before God? I answered because we know God will always be there, no matter what we do. He said "Good ol God huh?" I think that's another reason why we have a harder times confessing to people than God. We know God will forgive us and always be there, and people might not.
@Missintheolddays Christ gave Peter the authority to forgive. Read Matthew 16:19. What are the "keys" to the kingdom? there countless scripture verse that instruct us to ask forgiveness and give forgiveness. But if the one you wronged does not want to forgive you then how to you receive forgiveness? You go to one who represents Christ and has been given the authority to forgive. In confession to receive grace from God and absolution of sin. No one has that authority but the Catholic church
@gizmoree1 uhh i know that dude. i was just saying that this singer this band is awesome to be giving good advice. im a fellow catholic i know what confession is what it does. i know God wants us to forgive people. and i know that the catholic church is the only one that has the authority..its pretty awesome if you ask me.
I do believe we should confess our faults (James 5:16 KJV) as we have wronged our brother. But, sins should only be confessed to the One who can forgive and help and thats not man but Jesus Christ the righteous. If we confess sins to man are we not taking the prerogative that belongs to our Saviour alone. That is a doctrine of the Catholic church not the Bible. I am not here to bash the Catholic church. I am just standing for straight Biblical truth.
@navydiv192 I don't think he meant as in order to be forgiven. But sometimes when we're real with others and not trying to put on a show it actually aids in our healing. Not salvation but healing. Some times people still feel the guilt even though they know God has forgiven them, until they say it out loud. Also I think part of his point was, people just tell God, with words and not their hearts.

If we don't take God to be real, why don't we work on developing a more intimate relationship with God so that we do take Him real and we are genuinely in awe before God when we confess our sins before Him? But I think you're absolutely right that we should confess our sins to each other. It's a requirement in the scripture (James 5:16). "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed"
it's true that we're more afraid of confessing our sins to people than God, and this is surely something really awkward when you think about it seriously. I agree that it's mainly because we don't take God as something as real as a human person. But should we only focus on confessing our sins to people rather than God? Shouldn't we reply more on our prayers and the Holy Spirit?
I understand you ask the saints to pray for you but my question has always been, why? They aren't listening to you. When i think about those things i now go to God and thank him for what He has givin me. what i'm blessed with. so that takes my mind out of negative lustful thoughts
Evil is doing harm where none is needed. Living a happy life where you attempt to make the most of your potential is the most faithful thing you can do. Does not every father wish his children to grow into something great? The guilt you feel is because of brainwashing in your youth. I bet you can't explain what makes pornography or sex bad just that someone told you it was. Our religions need to return to a love of their fellow man and away from the guilt trips and hate-mongering.
I am currently struggling with an addiction to pornography. No matter what I do I can't break the addiction. I try to give it over to God but I still end up sinning. The burden from the guilt is killing me and I am afraid that if I continue on this path that God will reject me. I need to end this now, please help
@foxthor11 Hey there! Firstly, you're not alone. There are many, many men and women who struggle with porn and masturbation habitually. A couple of truths though. There is absolutely nothing you can do to earn the God's favor, Isaiah 64:6 says our good deeds are like filthy rags before the Lord. That is why we need Jesus, because his perfect life was translated to us on the cross. When the Father sees us he sees what we are covered by, which is the perfect righteousness of his Son.
@foxthor11 That being said, God will NEVER reject you as you come before him in Christ. I mean NEVER. To believe otherwise is to believe a lie. Living in that truth is hard to accept, but all you have to do is accept it, and that's it, acknowledge your sin and repent of it. Jesus already took it for you, and he's not surprised...he's God. For example, I would get up and take walks at two in the morning or stay up all night to avoid my sin and honor my King, but as a result of what has been given to me. I can do nothing to earn righteousness. Also recognize that all the people you are looking at are sons and daughters of our Father. @foxthor11 I have seen some, and i hate myself for it, but what did, and what i am still doing, is trying to ignore the sin. I pray to the lord that he will help me and he does, he takes my mind away from it, and i feel much better after confesing to God.
@foxthor11 cut off the source of wherever you get it. if its magazines, avoid the store where you get them. if its on the internet, get rid of the device that you get it on. you may not think its worth it now but please, think about where you will be later on when your not addicted anymore. do you really think its worth risking eternal condemnation over this? definitely not! just keep reading your Bible, praying and asking God for help and I will be praying for you.

I'm an alcoholic sober by plugging into a power bigger than me/my addiction,God. This song speaks to my spirit. I would try to play the 26 yr. old girl that "has it all together" meanwhile I was drinking myself to death. Living double lives. My "has it all together" stage character was killing me. My ego was keeping me blocked from God. I had to get real with my truth. Confess to God, others and inner self to rid myself of my delusion that I'm okay thus allowing the REAL healing to begin.

Wow...that is powerful...but honestly I have to say that I am still scared to confess my sins to another person...why?...well because...like TheFletch827 inadvertently made a point of saying, people who you think are Christians and are truely not could turn that sin against me and use it to define me...but, if I can truelt trust a person and know that they are a true christian, maybe then I could share my sin with them and ask for prayer and finally begin to heal!
Easier said than done. I've found that through my struggles, which I'm now realizing are not my fault, christians are the most judgmental. It's terrible, I've gotten more support and encouragement from nonchristians. The other day I was looking at a brooke fraser video & some guy says, "God rescued me from alcoholism and drug addiction." And the first couple responses were, "You followed your own lustful ways. You made all the wrong choices." Condemnation left & right. We need 2 help eachother!
@TheFletch827 Hmm...this is quite an odd statement...TRUE christians should be loving and kind and if a person proclaims to be a christian but is judging and unkind then they WILL have to deal with the Lord for this sin. The Lord Jesus is our judge. You should be able to confess your sins to almighty God and to his followers and not be rebuked harshly but instead recieve more love than you have ever known. Abba is a forgiving God and his followers should be too...

2/2 The priest will then suggest certain prayers for our Penance. And most people talk face-to-face. He doesn't judge us and he would never tell anyone what we said. Jesus said to confess our sins to one another and that is exactly what Catholics do during Confession. Yes, the Catholic Church has had corrupt people in it, but as a whole it isn't corrupt. Some people are just like in any other religion. Maybe everyone who has judged or said negative things about Catholics needs to read Matt 7:5.
1/2 How is it "Christian" to attack another's faith? We all believe in one G-d. We just worship in different ways. Catholics do NOT "worship" Mary OR the saints. We pray to them to pray FOR US just like we pray to G-d. We have special saints who we respect not worship because we can connect to them. When we Catholics go to Confession we are telling the priest, who is acting on behalf of G-d and G-d is working through, are sins. We receive advice, support, and his prayers.
@Proud2BCatholic11 but doesn't the bible say that there is only one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus? And didn't Jesus say no one comes to the father but by me? No where in the bible talks about that we can or need to pray to others on behalf of us. Our only access to the father is through Christ alone. @indoernst During Confession the priest is no longer really a priest; he is Jesus speaking through the priest. We are confessing our sins to G-d not the priest. Priests are like Jesus "mini-me"s in a way. They do jobs for him. And we pray to Mary and the saints to pray for us just like we ask our friends/families to pray for us. We're not alone in our spiritual journey. We sometimes have to ask for other's help. And yes Catholics do believe that Jesus is the ONLY way to G-d and eternal life.

@indoernst Where does it say we can't pray to the dead? And why shouldn't we? We pray for them and the souls waiting in Purgatory waiting to be united with G-d in heaven. And the priest gives us a "Penance." He suggests we either pray a certain prayer OR do a certain act i.e. help our parents with chores, be nice to younger siblings, etc. And the only way we can be truly forgiven for our sins is if we are truly sorry. If we're insincere, it's pointless to go to Confession.

So, in order for a dead person to receive prayers, the dead individual has to hear the prayer, possess the power to answer it, and know how to answer it in a way that is best for the individual praying. Only God hears and answers prayer because of His perfect essence. The bible also does not teach that there is a purgatory. Jesus cleanses us.
@indoernst The Bible does not specifically use the word Purgatory, however, many times it refers to a place or state in which we much be cleansed before entering into heaven. One more thing, please bring to mind when Jesus said to people, upon this rock i build my church and He gave Peter the keys to the church. Peter, and the apostles went and started the church. the Catholic church being the APOSTOLIC church is led by the Holy Spirit. You should become Catholic :)
@indoernst We don't pray TO the dead. This is a common misconception, even among Catholics who are known for their love of Saints. A saint is anyone that is in Heaven and we do not pray TO them we ask saints to pray for us. The same way you might ask a friend to pray for you. in the bible it says "The prayer of a righteous man is very effective" If a Saint is in heaven they are free from all sin and in a state of perfect grace.This is why we ask for their intercession :)

@indoernst actually the "Penance" those ten hail Mary's you referred to does not forgive your sins. JESUS forgives your sins at the time that the priest gives you absolution.During confession the priest is "persona Christi" meaning in the person of Christ. When we sin we break our relationship with God. Absolution forgives our sins, PENANCE helps us say sorry and rebuild ALSO in the BIBLE Jesus tells his disciples they have the power to forgive sins JOHN 20:22-23.

Yeah, I'm more afraid to confess to humans. Humans have no qualms hurting me. I can trust God more than that so I can confess to him. I don't trust humans all that much. So, yeah, I'm afraid of confessing to humans and not to God. Isn't that how it should be?
The only thing I see wrong with confession our sins to one another is the judgement that comes from it. I have been judged hardcore from many churches and Christians when I was transparent and confessed my sins to them. Most of those judges were the leadership in the church. It is easier to confess our sins to God, because you don't see the reactions He will have to it. Man shows their reaction so clearly which makes it so hard to confess to them.
Catholic confession is by no means what he is talking about. He is referring to what Jesus actually talked about, confessing to those you have wronged and your peers. It is hardly biblical to say "confessing" to a priest behind a wall all alone is the same as standing in a room with witnesses and the person you hurt and ask for forgiveness. Jesus says we should seek forgiveness with those we have wrong and also give forgiveness to those who have wronged us, since we have been forgiven much.
I do believe there are a lot of occult pagan things in catholicism... but I also know there are a lot of nice catholics. we-- no matter what denomination, even non-denominational-- need each other. we all have things that sometimes we don't all focus on. we ALL keep each other in check. because what man on earth know the full truth? :P

The pope is the descendant of Peter. The pope represents the real Rock in our faith upon which the main structure and support is built. As far as saying he is holy, yes, he is a holy man, all of us men on earth are holy, why? Because Jesus Christ is in every one of us. Catholics ARE christians, so to say christians are in any way better is ridiculous, in the end, just like it says in this video, we all worry too much about other PEOPLE than working towards God and our desire to please him.
today is the day i'm going to confess my deepest, darkest secrets and sins to one of my friends. we have a time set up and everything. i'm so nervous..but i just know that i need to come completely clean. i desperately want to experience the freedom and the unconditional love that Jesus promises. i've been a christian all my life but idk if i've ever really understood the gospel till now. we must be emptied so He can fill us. Well, damn that was true. Deep down I feel like I know that the only thing that is saving me is the grace of God, but it is so hard to put into practice. I constantly want to save myself; not just with sin but in everything I do. And even now I can easily scream, "I AM A DIRTY NASTY SINNER!" and mean it, because I still feel like I can protect myself here. None of you know me or can judge me. At this present moment I would never be able to scream that out in a crowd of people though.
@SuposedArt Why couldn't you? Jesus loves you. Just like Mike says, we have to come to Jesus dirty so he can clean us! Everybody sins..nobody is perfect except for Jesus himself! There is no such thing as a perfect Christian..however we try to stay away from the things that make us dirty. The bible says that no one by their own effort is good at all, its only through God we are good. Only God is good (Mark 10:18).But yet we call things good- "so-and-so is good", "pizza is good", ect. We aren't actually meaning to say that pizza is good in the way that God is. Continued in next comment :)
In the same way, God alone is Holy. But we also describe people as holy (little H here) in a lesser way to say that they are living a godly life, or something to that effect. @summrstorm if he was catholic then he would be saying that you need to confess your sins to a priest so he can tell you to pray this many hail marys, this many our fathers, and so on. But no he was saying that itll help to talk to a person about what youre dealing with cuz then they can give you advice and then you ask for Gods forgiveness not some priest behind a screen. And BTW you better check what you believe to the catholics beliefs cuz yes you guys do worship mary and all the "saints". GB

It's good that you are a Christian (so am I), but I believe that Catholicism is tainted by corruption and pre-Christian influences. I'm not hating or judging, just disagreeing.

@0893deuce Yep, Jesus never revoked the Sabbath or any of the commandments. He is the fulfillment of the entire law of God for us who could never keep it. He expanded the law (Matt. 5:17-30), and now He is our Sabbath Rest everyday, 24/7, not just one day per week (Matt. 11:28-30, Heb. 4:8-10) and we enter that rest by faith in Him. Yes, religion NEEDS to be locked away! I believe God hates religion, He wants a relationship with you! We get caught up in "religion" and use our "religion" as a guide in life, when Jesus Christ and His word should be our guide! God loves each and every person! And He wants a relationship with you right now!
YES.... i'VE got to jump on this confessing stuff. I know in my life being secretive is natural when it comes to where I've fallen and how I've been hurt. But God is here to heal us all. I want to usher in that healing with as much faith as possible. What better way to incite that faith in myself than by confessing my deep dark sins. It's not as scary as we give it credit. Yes It can be devistating, but when the walls come down I'm sure we will find Jesus standing on the other side smiling :)
@IHavAUTubeSadly, I agree with everything that you are saying about God, but arguing with JoesGLegal isn't going to making him believe. It is our drop to tell. Once we tell them, it's not on us to push and push and push because we'll wind up pushing them away. We are judged based on what know. You have told him about the gospel, now it's on him. Pray for him, that God would open his mind and heart to receive the gospel and leave it at that. God knows what He's doing.
I Love what you have said here.really have done that myself. I confess to God but there is a healing power when we are able to face another individual and confess. If I lied to an angel unaware, would I make it?, if Jesus were right beside me like a best friend,Could I honestly say to his face what I have done. The thing is...im not scared to tell god my sins, not because im not afraid of him, but because i whole heartedly feel that hes the only one that will fully understand and forgive me. I know that it may be better if everyone showed the love of Christ, but many people condemn you to hell and offer no help. The best part of this, it's never too late. NEVER. No matter what you have done, or how big you've done, you are forgiven. The word says, there is no big and a little sin. Once you sinned, that's that. But god loves us so much, he is forgiving us from that, because he knows we are more, and when you confess, that's when your free, that's when the healing, begins. :) don't be afraid. A pastor asked once in a meeting, why we sometimes worry about pleasing people before God? I answered because we know God will always be there, no matter what we do. He said "Good ol God huh?" I think that's another reason why we have a harder times confessing to people than God. We know God will forgive us and always be there, and people might not.

I do believe we should confess our faults (James 5:16 KJV) as we have wronged our brother. But, sins should only be confessed to the One who can forgive and help and thats not man but Jesus Christ the righteous. If we confess sins to man are we not taking the prerogative that belongs to our Saviour alone. That is a doctrine of the Catholic church not the Bible. I am not here to bash the Catholic church. @navydiv192 I don't think he meant as in order to be forgiven. But sometimes when we're real with others and not trying to put on a show it actually aids in our healing. Not salvation but healing. Some times people still feel the guilt even though they know God has forgiven them, until they say it out loud. Also I think part of his point was, people just tell God, with words and not their hearts.

If we don't take God to be real, why don't we work on developing a more intimate relationship with God so that we do take Him real and we are genuinely in awe before God when we confess our sins before Him? But I think you're absolutely right that we should confess our sins to each other. It's a requirement in the scripture (James 5:16). "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed"

I agree that it's mainly because we don't take God as something as real as a human person. But should we only focus on confessing our sins to people rather than God? For example, I would get up and take walks at two in the morning or stay up all night to avoid my sin and honor my King, but as a result of what has been given to me. I can do nothing to earn righteousness. Also recognize that all the people you are looking at are sons and daughters of our Father. I'm an alcoholic sober by plugging into a power bigger than me/my addiction,God. This song speaks to my spirit. I would try to play the 26 yr. old girl that "has it all together" meanwhile I was drinking myself to death. Living double lives. My "has it all together" stage character was killing me. Easier said than done. I've found that through my struggles, which I'm now realizing are not my fault, christians are the most judgmental. It's terrible, I've gotten more support and encouragement from nonchristians. The other day I was looking at a brooke fraser video & some guy says, "God rescued me from alcoholism and drug addiction." And the first couple responses were, "You followed your own lustful ways. You made all the wrong choices." Condemnation left & right. We need 2 help eachother!

2/2 The priest will then suggest certain prayers for our Penance. And most people talk face-to-face. He doesn't judge us and he would never tell anyone what we said. Jesus said to confess our sins to one another and that is exactly what Catholics do during Confession. Yes, the Catholic Church has had corrupt people in it, but as a whole it isn't corrupt. Some people are just like in any other religion. Maybe everyone who has judged or said negative things about Catholics needs to read Matt 7:5.

1/2 How is it "Christian" to attack another's faith? We all believe in one G-d. We just worship in different ways. Catholics do NOT "worship" Mary OR the saints. We pray to them to pray FOR US just like we pray to G-d. We have special saints who we respect not worship because we can connect to them. When we Catholics go to Confession we are telling the priest, who is acting on behalf of G-d and G-d is working through, are sins. We receive advice, support, and his prayers.

Priests are like Jesus "mini-me"s in a way. They do jobs for him. And we pray to Mary and the saints to pray for us just like we ask our friends/families to pray for us. We're not alone in our spiritual journey. We sometimes have to ask for other's help. And yes Catholics do believe that Jesus is the ONLY way to G-d and eternal life.

@indoernst Where does it say we can't pray to the dead? And why shouldn't we? We pray for them and the souls waiting in Purgatory waiting to be united with G-d in heaven. And the priest gives us a "Penance." He suggests we either pray a certain prayer OR do a certain act i.e. help our parents with chores, be nice to younger siblings, etc. And the only way we can be truly forgiven for our sins is if we are truly sorry. If we're insincere, it's pointless to go to Confession.

So, in order for a dead person to receive prayers, the dead individual has to hear the prayer, possess the power to answer it, and know how to answer it in a way that is best for the individual praying. Only God hears and answers prayer because of His perfect essence. The bible also does not teach that there is a purgatory. Jesus cleanses us.

@indoernst The Bible does not specifically use the word Purgatory, however, many times it refers to a place or state in which we much be cleansed before entering into heaven. One more thing, please bring to mind when Jesus said to people, upon this rock i build my church and He gave Peter the keys to the church. Peter, and the apostles went and started the church. the Catholic church being the APOSTOLIC church is led by the Holy Spirit. You should become Catholic :)

@indoernst We don't pray TO the dead. This is a common misconception, even among Catholics who are known for their love of Saints. A saint is anyone that is in Heaven and we do not pray TO them we ask saints to pray for us. The same way you might ask a friend to pray for you. in the bible it says "The prayer of a righteous man is very effective" If a Saint is in heaven they are free from all sin and in a state of perfect grace.This is why we ask for their intercession :)

@indoernst actually the "Penance" those ten hail Mary's you referred to does not forgive your sins. JESUS forgives your sins at the time that the priest gives you absolution.During confession the priest is "persona Christi" meaning in the person of Christ. When we sin we break our relationship with God. Absolution forgives our sins, PENANCE helps us say sorry and rebuild ALSO in the BIBLE Jesus tells his disciples they have the power to forgive sins JOHN 20:22-23.

The only thing I see wrong with confession our sins to one another is the judgement that comes from it. I have been judged hardcore from many churches and Christians when I was transparent and confessed my sins to them. Most of those judges were the leadership in the church. It is easier to confess our sins to God, because you don't see the reactions He will have to it. Man shows their reaction so clearly which makes it so hard to confess to them.

Catholic confession is by no means what he is talking about. He is referring to what Jesus actually talked about, confessing to those you have wronged and your peers. It is hardly biblical to say "confessing" to a priest behind a wall all alone is the same as standing in a room with witnesses and the person you hurt and ask for forgiveness. Jesus says we should seek forgiveness with those we have wrong and also give forgiveness to those who have wronged us, since we have been forgiven much.

The pope is the descendant of Peter. The pope represents the real Rock in our faith upon which the main structure and support is built. As far as saying he is holy, yes, he is a holy man, all of us men on earth are holy, why? Because Jesus Christ is in every one of us. Catholics ARE christians, so to say christians are in any way better is ridiculous, in the end, just like it says in this video, we all worry too much about other PEOPLE than working towards God and our desire to please him.

Well, damn that was true. Deep down I feel like I know that the only thing that is saving me is the grace of God, but it is so hard to put into practice. I constantly want to save myself; not just with sin but in everything I do. And even now I can easily scream, "I AM A DIRTY NASTY SINNER!" and mean it, because I still feel like I can protect myself here. None of you know me or can judge me. At this present moment I would never be able to scream that out in a crowd of people though.

In the same way, God alone is Holy. But we also describe people as holy (little H here) in a lesser way to say that they are living a godly life, or something to that effect. @0893deuce Yep, Jesus never revoked the Sabbath or any of the commandments. He is the fulfillment of the entire law of God for us who could never keep it. He expanded the law (Matt. 5:17-30), and now He is our Sabbath Rest everyday, 24/7, not just one day per week (Matt. 11:28-30, Heb. 4:8-10) and we enter that rest by faith in Him. YES.... i'VE got to jump on this confessing stuff. I know in my life being secretive is natural when it comes to where I've fallen and how I've been hurt. But God is here to heal us all. I want to usher in that healing with as much faith as possible. What better way to incite that faith in myself than by confessing my deep dark sins. It's not as scary as we give it credit. Yes It can be devistating, but when the walls come down I'm sure we will find Jesus standing on the other side smiling :)

Once we tell them, it's not on us to push and push and push because we'll wind up pushing them away. We are judged based on what know. You have told him about the gospel, now it's on him. I Love what you have said here.really have done that myself. I confess to God but there is a healing power when we are able to face another individual and confess. If I lied to an angel unaware, would I make it?, if Jesus were right beside me like a best friend,Could I honestly say to his face what I have done. The thing is...im not scared to tell god my sins, not because im not afraid of him, but because i whole heartedly feel that hes the only one that will fully understand and forgive me. Unlike God, people are sometimes not as understanding. sometimes they even intend to judge you for your sins.
