When people kill other people with knives, they don't waste time sparring with them. If you really want to kill someone, it's fairly easy. You don't need technique, reflexes, footwork, etc. All you need is the will to kill someone. However, if you want to be a martial artist, meaning you train in techniques based on science and experience, to the point where they are instinctive, then you should NEVER practice sparring. Sparring simply does not happen in the world of crime.

In our sword academy we sometimes try to fight with knives. Obviously we are wearing protection but the fights look exactly like this one. All those techniques shown by self defense schools are complete and utter shit. One touch of good knife and opponent looses a finger. Obviously the pain will incapacitate them for enough time for you to stab them to death. For that reason in knife fight one must keep distance and try to strike the armed hand, not stab their chests (he will stab back) .

i saw your boxing drill vid and thought it was a great drill i'd like to try. now i don't think i'll be looking at any more given how stupid and dangerous this one is. you obviously don't know what you're doing really if you let your young students swing knives at each other, inches away from each others eyes. completely irresponsible shit.

seems like a pointlessly dangerous way to train, if you lose a finger you cant kniife fight that well, in all my training we use wooden or plastic knives with bright lip stick or something of that nature on the edge, same principal, much safer

If a real Cold Steel Black Bear Classic knife was used, I have to say that this was a dumb exercise with no protection.  One slip or touch can inflict a serious injury. I have seen the videos from Cold Steel where they effortlessly cut all kinds of things with their knives. By playing around with them like that, you are just begging for something to happen. There are plenty of other ways to safely practice.

in a knife fighting class i once took (i emphasize knife fighting, not defense) we placed sheaths on our knives, wore white t-shirts and coated the edges of the sheaths heavily with lipstick so we could see the slashes. why cant you all just do that? because at least then we went for lethal cuts. all i see those two students of yours doing is gingerly going for each others hands... which doesnt seem to teach much practical technique

This type of training quite frankly could be illegal. It does not matter how much skill one might have, training like this with real sharp blades is something only an idiot would do. And I reiterate, Idiot. So students from this training all have scars from when they reached the level of idiot ?

@reachoutandtouchme I understand your dismay. Feel at ease that We don't consider this exercise as stupid. It is integral. Only our highest students are allowed this drill. Only the Ones who truly understand the reality of the blade utilized this realistic training.

The safety is the Human/Martial Artist. Their control is of the highest caliber that they are able to touch & not injure. Thank you for your comment & genuine care. I understand from where your feeling stems from.
