This is what America needs to know from Europe. The reason why we didnt respect you guys especially during Bush was sometimes you miss and prove the slightest bit of good reasoning and a general unhealthy state of mind which goes a long way in making life better, 'I know, a few Americans are shocked at that revelation', even a few adults thinking like kids is a serious issue, your racial issue is such an example, remember that you guys are apperantly the beakon of freedom thus I say that.
with a speech like that... how can a republican and democratic pundit that commentated this right after that speech.. not come together and agree that Obama would be going places and most likely become president should he run! he was just that good at delivering speeches.. it will always be known as Obama's infamous speech of 2004
LOL He actually went there and used a Tiger Woods comparison. I guess if Obama were Asian the dude would have called him the "Bruce Lee" of the political world. Sometimes people should think before they open their mouths ;P
"It's a shame the networks aren't covering this, because they just missed a bit of history."
Understatement of the century, right there. I remember the next day, my mom called me saying how great the speech was, but she (like most) never heard of him, and couldn't even pronounce his name in our conversation. 4 years later -- President of the United States.
I remember this speech. I remember being tempted to move to Illinois just so that I could vote for him. Four years later, this speech was still playing in my head as I cast my vote for the man.
What an amazing speech. Gave me chills and brought me to tears...and I'm not even American. Cherish your great nation, Americans. So many other countries would die to have what you have.
(On an unrelated note, Richard Norton Smith's eyebrows are LOL.)
When I saw this, I knew Obama was as they said "going places," but I never thought he'd be the next president. By far the most amazing and stunning candidate in American history.
Right after this ´04 speech, I said Obama will be the first black U.S. president. Nobody believed me. But I went on to bet on intrade (20 000 Dollars!!!). Now I don´t have to work anymore, at least not for the next 15 years! Thanks Obama!!!
I love the reaction when the one guy said Obama is considered the first black president of the United States. Jim says "yeah," as if to imply "like that will ever happen." Classic.
Reagan was 1) a rising star in Republican national politics in 1976 2)Delivered a rousing speech at the '76 convention that helped position him as a strong front runner in '80. 3) Generated a great deal of "hope" for Republicans at the convention and hype from the media. Those are three off the top of the head. Just replace Obamas name for Reagans, plug in the proper year and change Repub to Dem. There are other similarities that are less obvious that Obama hinted at himself in interviews/debates
In '76, Reagan had lost his third bid for President, and his criticism of Ford helped Carter win in '76. Reagan wasn't a "rising star" in '76. He was still dismissed for being a "former B-movie actor" and few respected *anyone* from (nutty) California.
By contrast, before Obama even gave this speech... as the video attests... people were already talking about him being "the first black President", and on his FIRST attempt, he is already the DNC front-runner.

You've drawn come contrasts, well done but I believe Reagan was a rising star to conservative republicans who were searching for a way to get back on track after Nixon and Watergate. Ford's pardon of Nixon energized Democrats and Chevy Chase' depiction of Ford hurt him badly (remember?). Reagan had very little effect. He was doomed to lose. Obama may have had a more circuitous route to the nomination if it weren't for wealthy far left wing NGO s'.
So sad this guy lied about everything.
