Funny how this theme is so much better than most modern themes, despite being made in the 80's. Really, of kid's game shows in the US, only Brainsurge beats it.
These Two Teams Are Trying To Hit The Target And The First Team To Fill Their Bucket Past The Line Will Get $25 And Control Of The Game. Ready, Aim, Fire! It's FAMILY DOUBLE DARE!! And Now, Here's Your Family Double Dare Host, A Guy Who's Full Of Surprises, Marc Summers!
Here's How we Play Double Dare. Marc will ask you a Question. Answer it Correctly, and You'll Win its Dollar Value. If you Don't Know the Answer, You can "Dare" your Opponents to Answer it for Double the Dollars. You must be Careful, because they can "Double Dare" you Back, for Four Times the Dollars. At that Time, You must either Answer the Question, or take a Physcial Challenge.
I am so happy to have grown up during the golden years of kids' television: Double Dare, Nick Arcade, Guts, Legends of the Hidden Temple. What passes for kids' entertainment these days? "iCarly?" "Spongebob?" "Big Time Rush?" Boy, today's kids are really missing out.
I don't know why, but when I hear this version of the Double Dare theme, I usually think about the epicness that is Super Sloppy Double Dare (1989/Viacom Version). That version had some many memorable episodes, but also had so many near misses on the obstacle course.
Back when kids were allowed to get messy, bruised, and hurt also known as having fun. These days a precious snowflake winds up with a scratch you can bet they will sue for as much money they can get.
the best game show on television, hands down...especially family double dare. between the outrageous family fun and just literally getting down and dirty, who doesn't wanna be on this show?
@tbonesfa Exactly. I bet a part of Marc Summers inside was screaming in fear every time that pesky slime made an appearance, or it was some sort of pie throwing Physical Challenge. YOURE MESSING UP HIS FLOOR!!!
@musicguy727 It's a $500 gift certificate to Kay Bee Toys! Where do you find your favorites toys? At Kay Bee Toys, and where do you find your local Kay Bee Toys? At your nearest shopping mall! Kay Bee Toys: You're Number One Toy Store!
@tbone2004 It seemed like every mall near me had one, disappeared off the face of the earth - it really was fun being a kid and wandering though Kay Bee, and ToysRUs
Despite Family Double Dare being the one everyone remembers, I say this...
Super Sloppy Double Dare (1989/Viacom Syndicated) was the best version by far. Biggest set, biggest obstacles, messiest physical challenges. Even though only 100+ episodes were produced.
I LOVE DOUBLE DARE SHOW!, it excited, happy, and wow there are greatest DD show ever they made, you know I do saw this on nickelodeon gas on this show and that terrific, and that sucks nickelodeon gas cancel logo and never return, man that sucks those days, you know nickelodeon gas show best channel program YOUR GAME, YOUR SPORT, GAME AND SPORT NETWORK FOR KIDS, :) that back then good old days, DD hopefully you come back i will always remember you,
My lifelong dream is to go back in time, grab 8 year old versions of me and my best friend, and take them back further in time to give my younger self a chance to be on this show.
Double Dare was truly the show to throw him into the spotlight. Not only did it showcase his natural charisma and wit, but helped him cope with what wouldn't become public until years later, his OCD. Not only has he hosted multiple other television programs, but now has his own production company. From working at a network, to announcing, to hosting, to running his own business. The man is truly great at what he does. I want to shake his hand.
When we were watching this on TV in the 80s, our parents and older siblings were probably scoffing at us, thinking "Man, TV was so much better in MY day."
Nostalgia has a funny way of making everything seem perfect. This was a great show, but there's good shows on now, too.

bring back the old Nickelodeon: shows like salute ur shorts, AYAOD, pete & pete, double dare, u can't do that on tv, guts, wild crazy kids, SNICK, my bro and me and much moooore
Ahh, listening to the theme brings back so many great childhood memories! Definitely one of my favorite shows of all time. I would always watch this show while trying to do my homework...lol.
This is your announcer Harvey speaking Double Dare has been filmed in front of a live audience at Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios in Orlando , Florida!! XD
Marc Summers made the show awesome. Jason Harris fucked Double Dare up. It's a shame what happened to Summers. You won't find awesome Nickelodeon game show hosts like Marc Summers, Mike O' Malley, or Kirk Fogg. The old Double Dare is better. Fuck Jason Harris.
@nowhammies10 These two teams are really making a mess of our set. Whoever fills their bucket past the line first wins 20 bucks and control of Round 1 on the only game show where getting messy is a good thing.
IT'S SUPER SLOPPY DOUBLE DARE! And now, here's your Super Sloppy Double Dare host, Marc Summers!
I wrote to Nickelodeon about 5 months before my 22nd birthday, asking them if they could revive the show, but with Marc Summers as the host and maybe take the key of the theme up about 2 notches. No reply :-(
They don't stimilating programming like this to watch. I grew up on this, Wild & Crazy Kids, Nick Arcade, LofHT, What would you do? Among others.
Nick encouraged kids to be kids. When it comes down to it, kids are going to want to make a mess and screw around. They're KIDS. Instead, we force these goddamned medicines down their throats because our gutless parents are lazy SOB's.
From what I've seen of DD I often ask myself, if the UK could do a damn good version of Fun House that lasted THIRTEEN years, imagine how long Double Dare would last. The main difference of course would be it would have to be points pot cash in the main round as under 16s cant win cash in the EU or Australia.
@WesNumber1 yes it does, not only for this show, but the best era for Nickelodeon period was from '86 to, I'll be fair and say '98, and yes I miss Nick Gas too, they need to do another network like that.
There is a shorter version of this played that rolled through the end credits and you hear Harvey saying " Double Dare has been filmed in front of a live studio audience at Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios or was it Doc Holiday who said that!! Then in the earlier episodes you hear it when Harvey says "This is your announcer Harvey saying So Long .. you see the "Reeves Entertainment logo b4 or after the da da da
I was on Super Sloppy Double Dare back in the day. This theme really took me back. Sweet sweet (Sloppy) memories...Thanks for posting. I needed a trip in the way back machine.
They were more mentally challenging than anything else. Knowing your racing against time and pressured to go as fast as you can was extreme. Very fun but extreme. As for the physical part it wasnt anything to hard to handle. My favorite part is at the final obstacle course. I got to drop through a giant makeshift gumball machine...That was fun!
LOL back in the day i would of given my left arm to the obstacle course... today i would give both my arms to do the obstacle course!!! love this show
I never said he was, I said I'm glad he put it aside to do Double Dare...anyone else might have just curled into a fetual position...but not Mark Summers...balls! =D
this show was the sh*t on Nickelodeon when i was younger. they used to have a channel called Nick GAS (games and sports), but now they took it away! that sucks!
this show is old, don't put it back on, revive it, get a new cast, modernize it and let a new generation fall in love. People are beginning to forget why slime and nick go together. its cause of this show!!
This song brings back so many fond memories of watching this show, much to my Mother's dismay of saying, "No you can't watch that." I wish I still had my copy of "Double Dare: Super Sloppiest Moments Ever". Oh to be a kid in the late 1980's again.
This theme song really rules the waves. With Rock music really taking over the genre at the time & Edd Kaleoff knew wanted the show needed. I feel that he might be the best game show theme song writer of them all. It conveys the exciting & fun atmosphere of game & does not give a sense of boredom at all. Of all game show theme I have never seen so many derviative of it on the same show; the theme also has spinoffs to it's time cues & bonus cues. 5 stars this tune is worthey off & all too perfect
Sucks that I can only view this on my phone.

I would have loved it if I were a contestant on Double Dare. My favorite obstacle was the Sundae Slide.

Around here, it's not GAS anymore. It's something to do with Noggin.

When Nick made the N and noggin, full time networks because that and Noggin was the same network they got rid of GAS.

They totally should bring this show back...make it prime time...whatever. But not in the family format--that killed it, IMO.

this show is old, don't put it back on, revive it, get a new cast, modernize it and let a new generation fall in love.

COrrection. It titled "The Messiest Moments"
