  • I remember this. Big Bird's legs used to creep me out..

  • This song was my introduction to conscious thinking 23 years ago...so deep it's been stuck in my head too ever since ... :)

  • This song has been playing in my subconscious ever since I first heard it 23 YEARS AGO!!!!

  • That's a pretty catchy way to make a song about such a negative word.

Maria looks like my mother nagging me in this video.

  • DUDE THIS BRINGS ME BACK 2 ELEMENTRY IN NEW ORLEANS IN DA 90s MAN WHEN I COULDN'T WATCH THE SIMPSONS AND HAD 2 GO 2 SLEEP AT 8pm LOL MAN THIS BRINGS BACK MEMORIES MAN I GREW UP ON THIS AND BARNEY

  • I thought "bird" was the word?

  • This song scared me when I was little.

  • @VampireKingDuz let me guess. it was the lips right?

  • @lemondragon18 No, it wasn't the lips. I think it was the fact that it was no anything and the images were a bit dark and scary to me.

  • OMG I was addicted to this song as a little girl... this song is over 17 yrs old or so least. I was just humming it because it has always stuck with me and decided to YT it and here it is awwwwwwwww crazy!

  • back when sesame street was educational hmmmmmmmm

  • My mom used to sing this to us when we asked to watch TV <_<

  • So 80's.

  • I have a few Sesame Street "No's":

    - No complaining that Cookie has become the "Veggie Monster", that's a bald-faced myth.

    - No gratuitous "Elmo killed Sesame Street" remarks, I personally blame the competition for its supposed downfall.

    - No gay jokes about Ernie & Bert, how immature can you get with those??

  • @Pooleman96 Can't deny the truth about Ernie & Bert. Sesame Street addressed that matter themselves.

  • NO disliking!

  • Wow I totally remember this song. In fact I had the tape. I wore it out. lol

  • no sesame street

  • can somebody upload remasterd auto of this verson

  • Yeh this song was my jam son, I used to tell this to a lot of different people

  • @Cuteblondie1972 Well, they were both by the same director, Jim Blashfield. He also did Michael Jackson's "Leave Me Alone" and Paul Simon's "The Boy in the Bubble". : )

  • @malletman88 Blashfield also directed "Monster in the Mirror."

  • @pooka5472 Really? I didn't know that...

  • awwwwwwwww i miss this

  • No trolling.

  • I was looking for the sesame street YouTube channel and it is really hard to find

  • No hiding from N and O

  • How can just one word with just two letters keep so much from getting done.

  • NO Having Sex!

    NO Country for old men

But, it was "yes", we could do what everything we want, like anarchists.

  • I remember this from my Sesame Road cassette tape!

  • Suddenly a large wave of NOstalgia washes over you

  • 2 women (and a punch of puppets) singing about the word 'No' just feels... odd to me :\

  • is it just me, or does maria look like Phillicia Rashad?

  • Ah, childhood. How I miss you, so.

  • so no to delonte west ?

  • anti-rape infomercial

  • This song reminds me of someting the one hit wonder group Til' Tuesday would have done. They did a very popular 80's track called "Voices Carry"

  • hahaha i used to love this! thanks for posting!

  • look at super grover prarie dawn bert count elmo that dog ernie and bert grover big bird that dog

  • Sing it Gina!!!!!

Hey mom, can I go out and play???

(She then would break out into this song...)

  • How can just one word

    With just two letters

Keep so much from getting done

We'd be worse off without it

    No doubt about it

    Stand up and shout it

    No's no fun

  • @59771006

    Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesusssssssss!!!!!!!!!

    Oh, right.

  • Jeez, the girls' hair reeks of 80's.

  • no no no

  • For some reason this skit made me angry as a kid, I guess it was because everyone was so negative to all my favorite characters! lol

  • Screw the bird, the word is NO.

  • In Swedish, the word is "Nej".

  • I like the "no teasing" part.

Well so many no's here...what ARE we allowed to do?

  • What song was this originally?

  • Wow, some of this is coming true ! Seriously, if you tease someone on the Internet it could be cyberbullying, we have the red light cameras now, they have cameras and listening devices in the deep woods, it costs 5 dollars to park by the highway in the national forest, doctors tell us what to eat every day, AAARGH!!!

  • I remember this It's very catchy and the song is stuck in my head

  • i dont get what point they were trying to make... what message were they trying to send out to us children? hahahaha

  • @ woowbrad, they kinda allude to the meaning of the song in the bridge of it, how such a small word, two letters, can mean so much when you're trying to get something done.

  • COOL

  • This song is made in 1990.

  • The mouth used to scare me....

  • @JLBtiger92 Yeah I'm with you there. The beginning freaked me out a little bit when I was young.

  • @JLBtiger92 Me too. It still does. But the rest of the video is okay.

  • a word i'm used too

  • Oscar requested this negative hit

  • 1998

  • Nope, 2001

  • i just love how this looks like a video you would have seen around the late 80s/early 90s. which was my earliest era of sesame street. to be a 90s kid...

  • i love how the music on Sesame Street reflects the era.

If you watch it today, its the stuff you hear on the radio- well. Actually, SS isn't as cool as it used to be. Other shows have better music.

    Like Yo Gabba Gabba

  • 6 1/2 stars!

  • very new wave. love the crazy art direction.

  • my childhood

  • Holy Crap, I remember this song!

  • Oh my god! I havent seen this in 19 years!

  • o god the 80s aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh those were very times

  • i remember watching this and being as scared as hell from the mouthing of the word "no" lol

  • omg!!! same here!!! XD

    i thought i was crazy!

  • Im glad this video was posted. I remeber watching this when i was little, and my sisters would change the channel to that soap opera Days of Our Lives lol cuz they didnt like me watching sesame street but i would change it back and they would fight with me i was only a kid i did want to watch dang soap opera either . hahahah

  • This song is awesome. I could jam to this. It's so 80's.

  • NO commenting!

  • That used to give me the creeps as well!!!!! haha lol

  • THIS USED TO SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!!

    but now its awesome

  • You aren't alone, it used to scare the crap out of me too! Thank's for making me feel less weird haha

  • Pause right at 1:51, and when somebody is about to come ask you a Question, like can they play your XBOX 360 or PS3, press Play.

  • oh yeah LMAO

  • And the word is New Orleans. NO stands for New Orleans.

  • I remember this omg haha

  • Hard to believe Alison (Gina) is only 16 or 17 during this.

  • Yeah, I forgot Her Name, I remember Bob, Maria, and what's his face who made it look as if was dating Maria.

  • Louis, wasn't it? =S

  • I think so, I remember He too had some Hispanic Descent...like that Time He did a spin off of La Bamba.

  • I used to think Louis was Zorro!

  • She looked like She was in her late 20s actually.

  • I wonder what happened to Hoots the owl. He doesn't seem to be in the later episodes.

  • How can i play this this the word is no theme song? I want to know how

  • what year is this song

  • 1990

  • Gina is in my heart <3

  • Holy Shit i remember this

  • Has anyone ever noticed that Gina looks an awful lot like Zooey Deschanel?

....or is that just my own insanity?

  • That's your own insanity

  • whew. thanks!

  • That would be funny because she plays in Yes-Man ;-)

  • you just are crazy poor man

  • could anyone upload the remastered 1

  • this was one of my favorite songs when i was little because one of the reasons was i laughed my self to tears when Gena made a face when the line was "No Teasing' i thought it was very amusing back then.

  • I remember this song, i haven't seen this video since i was 6 yrs old. Is this supposed to be a parody of another song? if so what song is it a parody of? it sounds familier

  • Quick search on Wikipedia doesn't click about hits that sound like the song (Am i'm supposed to be a child of the early 90's), but according to the Muppet Wiki, the producer of the song (Jim Blashfield) also created music videos for Talking Heads ("And She Was"), Michael Jackson ("Leave Me Alone") and Paul Simon ("The Boy in the Bubble"). He also made the Grover song "Monster in the Mirror."

If you want a tip, his videos feature a unique collage animation style.

  • Another one of my faves! XD

  • this was my favorite sesame street song growing up...

  • what year is this from

  • 1990. I think...

  • Earliest Known Appearance: Episode 2687 - February 20, 1990 - Season 21

  • one of my favorite Sesame St songs

  • I like the part whare Grover Drives a Old Chevy Corvet. although. No smoking, No fighting, no Drinking, and driving

  • oh god.. this brings back memories.. i love this song.

  • On 1:44, Grover dances while at least 7 nos show up on the chalkboard as Maria and Gina sing the song.

  • On 0:27, Grover is seen driving a car, and then on 0:31, Grover accidentally speeds up the vehicle and lifts his head up like he said "Why the heck did I do that?" or something with some kind of frustration. What do you think?

  • On 1:28, the word "No" shows up from behind Bert & Ernie, and then on 1:32 Bert & Ernie turn around, then duck down and hide from the word "No".

  • The word was what now?

On a serious note, pretty good song. Not only is the beat catchy, I like how the Muppets are involved in this somehow. Don't know why, but it adds to the humor.

    Thanks wattmack!

  • man i used to love Gina, i thought she was so pretty

  • Oh Really?.

  • I loved this as a kid! It's so catchy, and so much fun to listen to. I can't believe that they eliminated this stuff from the current episodes. Why oh why was the decision made to remove these great little vignettes from the current Sesame Street episodes?

  • seeing all these different clips from classic sesame street makes me feel so old. considering alot of people can't remember them...wish they could come back the future generations, to me these were more education and helped develop imagination better than what they have now..but i could be wrong

  • no is what my girlfriend says when I want to have sex, so then I just ask my other one

  • smart

  • you know this song along with others i remember from seing Street when i was a litle kid were some of my favorite songs durring the 80's and very early 90's little kids today do not know what they are missing.

  • i agree. Does this mean we are getting old?

  • it does unfortunately mean we're getting old. No matter how old you are, the second you say things like "back in my day..." you're old. I'm already saying it about things today and I'm only 18 lol.

  • Sadly....you are right.

  • wow what memories!

  • I loved this video as a kid!!

  • however this song is r*****ed it's still pretty cool

  • This brings back so much good memories...

  • I love the sound of the 1980s when it comes from Sesame Street!

  • This reminds me of the peter gabriel- Sledgehammer!

  • This was favorite Sesame Street song sooooooooo long ago

  • how old was this??, was this like 1984 or something?

  • I saw this when I was a teen so I guess it didn't scar me like some others here. Thanks for posting it!
