We had one of those printers. It took a final dump after giving us much headache. It was a bottom-of-the-line entry level printer back then. Expected use from one of those is about 1-2 years at best. (We fixed it ourselves rather than pay someone to fix it.) The print head needed to be replaced. At $400 replacement cost, we decided to just replace the printer with a newer model. The lid on ours didn't close all the way either. I believe it's just a design flaw.
