From then on any GIs who have doubts about any Japs surrendering open fire, and even bayonet or shoot to the head any Jap soldiers asking for help or looking wounded. You cannot blame the GIs, these Japs brought this to themselves.

The Japanese Imperial army at that time were trained to be brutal. They were commanded not to surrender and to even deceive their enemies that they are surrendering while carrying a grenade to blow up themselves and everybody else around them. They were also commanded to fake injury so that when American medics or soldiers try to help them, they will then strike out with their hidden weapon.

The American GIs, seeing multiple cases of this kind of treachery, adjusted to Jap soldiers' barbarity.

the first gound battle was'nt Makin Atoll, but the phillipines, and USA lost it...

@spacesoviet59 The USA forces in Philippines at that time lost all their air support when Japs bombed the airfields. Japanese invading forces also have at that time more superior firepower. THE USAFFE forces were outgunned and encircled. After weeks of brutal fighting in the jungles and mountains, suffering from hunger, disease and dwindling ammunitions, the US and Filipino defenders surrendered. If they knew what the Japs will do to them they will probably choose to fight to the death.

Japanese people were very lucky because the American doesnt have mentality like Japs to slave the people of the country they invaded.

The Japs ruined the Philippines and its people before they surrendered.

The American never did slave Japanese people when Japan was totally defeated.

@MAKER6450 no early on they had good quality weapons the arisaka T38 and T99.wich had the strongest actions of both world warsthey had some fine machine guns.the poblem was they were all chambered for a different cartrige.so they had about 5 or 6 diferent caliber weapons in every squad.

They had the chance to up-grade thier rifle but stuck to the old one....wich was bad IMO.

having all that different size ammo was stupid....would of been almost imposible to keep up supply when cut off.

We aussies used the 303 rifle a Bren machine gun.

@MAKER6450 the T38 was chambered for the rather small 6.5x50sr cartrige,but becase of the strong action they could load the ammunition to very high pressures.this probobly would have worked but they tried to switch to the 7.7x58mm cartrige mid-war wich caused a lugistical nightmare.but overall up untill mid 1943 their weapons were quality weapons.and the 7.7x58 was based off the .303,theyjust lengthend the neck a little and removed the rim

They had bolt-action rifles for some time before getting the M-1.

Most of the marines were using the 1903 Springfield around the time of Guadalcanal but I am guessing the Raiders got it earlier because they were commandos. The USMC got the M-1 Garand at the end of Guadalcanal though. Remember, I am just guessing that the Raiders got the M-1 Garand a little bit earlier than the rest of the USMC because they are commandos, but I am not exactly sure.

Re things militaristic, lessons learned are usually negative ones, i.e., someone died for no good reason and to no good purpose and so let us find out what went wrong so that such won't happen again. The Makin raid is one such lesson and was never repeated during that war. And some paid for their sin, and so not only Makin but also Tarawa was hardened, which wasn't a good thing when some came a calling later, as the hardening only served to increase the number of dead on both sides.

Couldn't agree any more, sad freeking game, thought it would be better, only good thing about the game is the Graphics, the AI was miserable, where they spawned and just came out from nowhere was also a bummer, and the hit detection wouldn't register the hits most of the time, 5 hits from an M1 to kill the enemy. I heard the 2nd part to the Civil War game was OK, which is a serious upgrade from Terrible if ya know what I mean.

Australian Army was the first to beat the Japanese in a ground battle in Papa New Guinea before the Marines had. No quarter given fighting after finding they had killed our wounded. General MCarthur's troops in Papa New Guinea were next to useless. Much of our jungle training was from what was learnt fighting the Japs.

Not overall of course, only the troops that were in papa New Guinea. The commanding officer was some politicians son who was just there to get combat service but had little skill in leading men in combat. Unfortunately Australia was pressured by Macathur to move forward to time schedules that meant they had little time for proper recon of Jap positions resulting in thousands of deaths that couldve been avoided. Our own General Blamey sacrafised troops to appease macarthur.

The Japanese were forced to act, if they hadn't they would have lost their dream of being a modern industrial power. Their hands were forced by America. Of course i know that! They were expanding into China and had Manchuria. The Japanese people believed that if the Chinese couldnt defend their land then they didnt have a right to it, and took what they could. The embargoes were put in place due to that. But since every industrial nation expands through conquering, and given the Japanese aspirations to be a power to rival the West, we can understand why they did what they did, and perhaps even admire it
