From then on any GIs who have doubts about any Japs surrendering open fire, and even bayonet or shoot to the head any Jap soldiers asking for help or looking wounded. You cannot blame the GIs, these Japs brought this to themselves.
The Japanese Imperial army at that time were trained to be brutal. They were commanded not to surrender and to even deceive their enemies that they are surrendering while carrying a grenade to blow up themselves and everybody else around them. They were also commanded to fake injury so that when American medics or soldiers try to help them, they will then strike out with their hidden weapon.
The American GIs, seeing multiple cases of this kind of treachery, adjusted to Jap soldiers' barbarity.
@spacesoviet59 The USA forces in Philippines at that time lost all their air support when Japs bombed the airfields. Japanese invading forces also have at that time more superior firepower. THE USAFFE forces were outgunned and encircled. After weeks of brutal fighting in the jungles and mountains, suffering from hunger, disease and dwindling ammunitions, the US and Filipino defenders surrendered. If they knew what the Japs will do to them they will probably choose to fight to the death.
@helcio1960 If you have to choose of your death..what will you choose? ATOMIC bomb of Americans? or Beheaded by Sword by a JApanese? I will prefer Atomic bomb..less pain..The Japanese were Beheading thier POWs.. that was recorded.

The Makin raid is one such lesson and was never repeated during that war. And some paid for their sin, and so not only Makin but also Tarawa was hardened, which wasn't a good thing when some came a calling later, as the hardening only served to increase the number of dead on both sides.

you clearly didnt read a word i said, the atom bomb killed around 200,000 grand total of both citys, and invasion would have killed countless millions.but never mind that, im sure you know how to fight a war so much better than Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower (sp)
Sir, please shut up and do some research. Neither the Uranium Gun nor Plutonium Fission bombs killed 'millions.' They killed many people, yes. But guess what, more than twice as many people died in Tokyo in the earlier weeks, killed by, you guessed it, conventional bombs.
The Japanese refused to surrender, and were going to fight to the death of every last man, woman and child. Even when the Emperor, a man revered by them as god, tried to surrender, the military tried to revolt and continue
Bombing runs that burned and suffocated thousands. Emptied entire cities that had no war purpose. Just mass civilian killings. Yes, i am comparing them
if the Japanese and Nazis, didn't start shit, then we wouldn't have bombed them. they should have just lived their lives instead of trying to conquer countries.
A few points. First, any civilization must deal with scarcity. It is a fact of life, that there are finite resources. To assure one's groups survival, there MUST be strife over who has what. Water, food, land, oil, EVERYTHING has multiple parties who desire it, and therefore fighting for it. Therefore, by trying to say "they should have just lived out their lives" you claim that we have a right to the resources we were hoarding and keeping from them. That we are their betters. Have you no shame?
You completely twisted my words. Would you rather have me say this? "Those small-penis squinty-eyed Japs deserved to get smothered and burned out. We should have done worse. It's nothing more than they deserved for destroying other nations and attacking us!" Would you have wanted me to say that? I NEVER said that we were their betters. I said that if they lived their lives and we lived our lives sensibly without hurting eachother then there wouldn't have been such a huge mess.
They couldn't have just lived their lives because we were imposing embargoes on them in the first place! That was my whole point. The Japanese were forced to act, if they hadn't they would have lost their dream of being a modern industrial power. Their hands were forced by America. I agree that if we could've shared our resources sensibly there wouldnt have been such a terrible war, but sadly that just didnt happen.
Of course i know that! They were expanding into China and had Manchuria. The Japanese people believed that if the Chinese couldnt defend their land then they didnt have a right to it, and took what they could. The embargoes were put in place due to that. But since every industrial nation expands through conquering, and given the Japanese aspirations to be a power to rival the West, we can understand why they did what they did, and perhaps even admire it
hey asshole, firstly there wouldn't even be no god damn war if Germany and Japan didn't invade other countries. Like look what happen to your 'friends' Fudgey, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Berlin were all leveld to the ground. Those countries lost millions of soldiers and 100,000 of civilians each. All because they wanted to expand their borders. Their country paid the ultimate price for the wrong cause. You didn't even mention what Hitler did to the Jews now did you.
So expanding borders is the wrong cause?? Then every country in the world is guilty of that because EVERY COUNTRY at some point has expanded its borders by forcing others out, its just a fact of life! Look at Spain or England or the US. All rule or ruled huge portions of the world through expansion. Germany and Japan were just doing the same thing; perhaps at the wrong time. They paid that death price because they failed, just like the American Indian paid the price of failure
ANd what hitler did to the Jews... That had nothing to do with his countries expansion, that was a personal obsession that got in the way and contributed to his defeat. He could've used those Jews on the front lines, but Hitler had serious mental issues as we all know. But that doesnt mean that the expansion of Germany was necessarily an EVIL enterprise
Yes I do get your point. Almost every country on Earth, the ones with the power, have invaded another country. But Germany and Japan's brutality is unquestionable. At least Germany have admitted themselves as being wrong. But to this day I think many Japanese still believe that it was their 'right' to invade and take over other people's country. I also don't believe dropping nuclear bombs on Japan was a wrong thing.
I believe that Japan's refusal to acknowledge their past misdeeds is because they see themselves as the country who help to begin the decolonization of countries under foregin power rule.
If America didn't drop those bombs, they would have had to launch an invasion. And we all know what Japanese soldiers were like. They would have fought to the last man, women and child with sticks and stones if they have to. They would rather order their people to commit suicide then surrender. So you could say those bombs may of saved Japan from total destruction as well as saving hundreds of thousands of American lives.
We can say that now, but back then it was much less apparent. Japan was supposedly on the verge of surrendering anyway; we didnt have to drop the bombs. Heck, what if we'd just stopped attacking and let Japan sit there? Its not like they could have expanded anymore
it really is an awesome show, but they never play the ww2 ones anymore. and its too bad Worldwartwotreasure cant get a view in high quality thing for this vid series,
