@UCSBPublicSafety Thanks for the reply, and I see that you guys take bike theft more serious then most communities. I'm a cyclist who always fears getting my rig stolen, I have a little over a grand invested into it. I apologize for the liar part my good man. I just thought the penalty was way over stated. It's good to see that someone is tryn' to really crack down on these bike thieves. I'm sorry.. I was wrong to call you out. Keep up the good work man. One
- Get it registered at UCPD. The fee is $10 and totally worth the expense; UCPD recovers about six times the national average when it comes to stolen registered bicycles.
- Get a solid U-lock... possibly two. Always lock your bicycle's frame to a non-quick release tire and then to a bicycle rack.
- Always park your bike in a rack to limit the chance someone will just carry away your bicycle.

A little on the penalties for theft? Sure, here they are!
- Bicycle Theft; Fine = $4,000-$20,000
- Joyriding on a bike, Fine = $4,000
– Possess a stolen. Felony Bail = $20,000
– Bike with defaced Serial Number. Felony Bail = $20,000
