Yes has to be one of my favorite bands, despite only being born in 95'. It's one of those timeless bands that is good no matter what era you place them in.
Was this from a DVD? I noticed on the show I taped from vh1 some of bill bruford's interview was edited out (the part where he talked about vocal harmonies through a loop tape). Thanks for having the real version.
Thanks so much for posting this! This is great to see the band when they were young and to hear classics like Long Distance and I've Seen All Good People played live from '71.
@KillingLies1 No. He felt that the album "Closer to the Edge" was Yes' definitive statement ,and they weren't going to do it any better than tha t album,so it was time for him to move on. You should really get the book, though.
@mrsaganscosmos You're right, this is good. But they excelled in the studio. They were tech heads and virtuosos. Not an exciting live band like Zep or the Who...I should just shut the fuck up and enjoy.
I really don't know much about drums and percussion. Why is Bill so good? He doesn't seem to do anything spectacular. Or is the tai chi thing? I mean, the effortless sort of playing.
close to the edge lyrics dont make much sense though. for example "a seasoned witch can fall beyond the depths of your disgrace" lol whats that mean???
haha!! ;) i'm not sure myself, man, but John says that sometimes he writes lyrics for the sound rather than the meaning. i think there were a few other bands at the time who may have operated under this same concept.
A seasoned witch can call you from the depths of your disgrace & rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace - maybe the seasoned witch = a healer. Rearranged liver = meds & herbs are filtered out by the liver & sent through the body (the liver was also long thought to be the seat of emotions). Restored mental grace? Healing the body often heals the mind (depression/anxiety) too. Of course knowing Yes, the medicine was probably hash. I joke. No, not really. ;)
sounds soooo much better than all of their concerts after 90125 came out. You'd think that at least the old rockers would stick to the method of recording that made their best albums and this live performance, tape, but NOOOOOO all their modern stuff is all digital too. How do they expect to sound good in this day and age if they cut corners
wow, I've never seen live Yes footage with the Fragile lineup. Bruford had left by the Close to the Edge tour. 5:48-always wondered how the heck they could have played "Perpetual Change" live-insanely complex!
not really, it does mask the pains of cancer and effects the state of your mind. i'd call that a drug its just nowhere near as dangerous as many of the rest.
thats one bad thing about the internet because you can't hear the volume dynamics or intonation of voice. i'm just saying that its rediculous to say all drugs are great when people have died from many of them. i know a girl who died from taking oxycontin, basically a legal pill form of heroin.
OMG!! Very cool. Just got back from the bloody old sea? nothing but turning GREEN from ROUGH waters & High winds. I did bring 3 YES Cd's with me though, that saved all of us.This is really a fantastic video Tommy Thanks so much. Happy New Year!! Leexxxooo
