Wow on several levels here:

First of all, I was a student nurse at this place in the early 80's before Reagan threw patients onto the streets, and would use my temporary i.d. to explore the grounds for hours after my clinicals ended. There was a school atop the hill that was heartbreakingly dilapidated even then.

"Wow" also because one of your talking heads hit on me back in the day.

My wife met Billy Milligan when he was there and she was a student nurse also. Hope your doc includes him.

I've been there, me and my brother went there at night, its on a hill and it has a graveyard next to it

the sad part is that i live in athens and ive only been in the parking lot at the ridges (the new name for the insane asylum, it was turned into university offices)

I used to work cleaning it out in the late 80's during the summer break...the basement is FREAKY. The hallways were so big we played dodgeball..found a courtyard that was so overgrown, like the congo..

Yeah, Ohio lost funding and shut down all the state hospitals like that. It was in the 80s I think. Never been to Athens, but Im from Mansfield,Ohio. We have the Reformatory.
