I have the converter box and I have gotten less channels compared to cable. A storm will wipe out a couple of channels on my converter box. Fuck the converter box.

Do you get more channels with these digital converter box then we did with the old antennas? I have cable now and they seem to keep going up on their rates. I am thinking about switching.

My old tv's coaxial input plug broke, and i use cable tv. So my question is along with converting digital signals does this box tune regular analog cable channel signals and outputs it on the VGA (red, yellow and white) so i can connect on the front of the tv?

you really need to review your history... since the beginning of time governments have ALWAYS gotten involved in commercial enterprises. the US spent 2.1 billion on this converter coupon program and grossed over 45 billion in the sale of these analog frequencies... not a bad ROI in any estimation.

In my opinion and many others this is a government ripoff.Now the analog channels I once received I do not get them anymore.The video freezes up or the signal goes out when you try to watch your favorite TV shows.And that's just the beginning.

The converter box hooks up to an antenna, which in my case, an outside antenna. I'm lucky to get my signals. The dish has stronger signal strenght.

You dumbass, the if the weather is bad enough to interupt your sat TV, it will do the same to your new government controled tv box. Already tested it out when they started coming out. Storms will make you lose TV signal with these new boxes, something they forgot to tell everyone. Buy a radio for a back up.

Kudos to the Canadian federal government for completely ignoring the 80% of Canadians who live within reach of US stations. As a free-to-air viewer I'm going to miss my favorite programming from Rochester and Buffalo. I guess I'll either have to wait till a 2011 canadian subsity happens or shop around on e-bay for a converter that I can afford.

Nice video, i still think the whole thing is a scam, though. The gov could have phased DTV in rather than force everyone into it. The dirty little secret of DTV is unless you live in a high signal area, DTV isn't worth the expense. In the end, terrestal tv most likely will loose viewers to cable and or satellite operators.

I have purchased a Digital Stream converter box and am thrilled. I designate Air as my source but it does list cable. When February comes, if I were a subscriber to Digital Cable, could I plug the coaxial cable from cable into my box and spare myself the rental fee? Please someone reply. I am asking because so many people tell me different things.

I just got the Insignia at Best Buy tonight, and I am really, really happy. I hooked up an old antenna to the box, and coax to my 37" analog tv, and presto, all my local channels crystal clear!

There's a bit of fumbling you gotta do with the settings. I set it to 4:3 and cropped, 16:9 works, but it turns into a box, and compressed makes everyone look crushed upwards. The audio setting should be set to mono. It doesnt really sound like mono, and the stereo is sort of faint.

The worse the reception is, the more metallic the sound.

I've got some buildings blocking two stations in my area, and they are coming in reduced signal, but I'm still getting them. I imagine an amplified antenna will help with this.

I've got four PBS channels, and an extra old reruns station i didnt know was there! I'm getting 15 channels now. I never thoguht cable was worth it, and friends had it, and Id rent DVDs. Now, I will definitely NEVER get it. That money can go into an HDTV.

For emergencies people should also keep a battery operated radio on hand in case there is no power.

I guess I need to consider this and also a portable type antenna that I can put up to receive the signal. We are on cable and I never really thought much about this.

I wonder if Radio Shack still sells those little el cheapo beam antenna's...
