I have the converter box and I have gotten less channels compared to cable. A storm will wipe out a couple of channels on my converter box. Fuck the converter box.
Do you get more channels with these digital converter box then we did with the old antennas? I have cable now and they seem to keep going up on their rates. I am thinking about switching.
My old tv's coaxial input plug broke, and i use cable tv. So my question is along with converting digital signals does this box tune regular analog cable channel signals and outputs it on the VGA (red, yellow and white) so i can connect on the front of the tv?
Anyone have an advise on the best converter box make/model to purchase. I just got my coupon and I don't wanna rush and regret my purchase. I've read a couple of reviews and the "Venturer STB7766G/G1" sold at Target seems to have the best reviews .... Pls help !!!
you really need to review your history... since the beginning of time governments have ALWAYS gotten involved in commercial enterprises. the US spent 2.1 billion on this converter coupon program and grossed over 45 billion in the sale of these analog frequencies... not a bad ROI in any estimation.
In my opinion and many others this is a government ripoff. Now the analog channels I once received I do not get them anymore. The video freezes up or the signal goes out when you try to watch your favorite TV shows. And that's just the beginning.
The real potential skullduggery of HD TV is not what it "Records" in your home but in what it surreptously "Delivers" into your livingroom without your knowledge! Look up "Sound of Silence" technology and new "silent" audio techniques of "thought control"!!! HD TV is a god send to Big Brother!!!
Mind & thought control? Impossible, unless you're refering to those fast food commercials. You better inspect your tin foil hat & maybe consider the lead lined upgrade while you're at it...Actually, all the paranoid conspiracy buffs have had their thoughts manipulated from the beginning. All diversions to stop them from considering the REAL problems in the world: ending starvation, war, homelessness, illiteracy & over-population. Making health care affordable, cleaner water & air.
You dumbass, the if the weather is bad enough to interupt your sat TV, it will do the same to your new government controled tv box. Already tested it out when they started coming out. Storms will make you lose TV signal with these new boxes, something they forgot to tell everyone. Buy a radio for a back up.
Silent Sound Spread Spectrum (SSSS)This technology is about to be used, albeit in a more subtle fashion, against American citizens in a highly classified and covert operation to mind control and manipulate the entire population into 'compliance' with our New World order overlords.
given the fact that a great share of the human population does not watch tv, i doubt this approach will be very effective. but hey, if the tin foil hat fits...
Riley Hollingsworth(less) - FCC-ite Enforcer for amateur radio division (ret.) was talking about voice over electrical lines as well as the spread spectrum. Digital communications can't be monitored analog They require a digital interface. Encrypted communications require an algorithm (cypher key, 64, 128, 256, 512 etc.) in order to access them. The technology on the public market is 10-20 years behind in terms of advancement
Think not, go buy a stealth plane, or a sound weapon
The technology will utilize a combination of HAARP transmitters, GWEN towers, microwave cell phone towers, and the soon-to-be-mandatory High Definition DIGITAL TV that will enter your home via A) Cable, B) Satellite, C) HD TVs, or D) those oh-so-easy -to-obtain "Digital Converter boxes" that the government is so anxious to help you obtain and underwrite most of the cost on your behalf.
There are plenty of government and illuminati agents whose job is to manipulate information on the internet. They are fairly easy to spot because they have only a few tools at their disposal: insults, lies and lies mixed with truth.
Why no box for the amount the coupon is good for? I refuse to pay any additional cost so I will not be wanting any coupons, you canadians can have mine. Just another rip off.
Kudos to the Canadian federal government for completely ignoring the 80% of Canadians who live within reach of US stations. As a free-to-air viewer I'm going to miss my favorite programming from Rochester and Buffalo. I guess I'll either have to wait till a 2011 canadian subsity happens or shop around on e-bay for a converter that I can afford.
I'm hoping that there'll be a flood of cheap converter boxes on the market in Canada after Feb. 2009 when the majority of American consumers have already made the switch. Otherwise, complain to your MP canidates while they're in a listening mood.
Nice video, i still think the whole thing is a scam, though. The gov could have phased DTV in rather than force everyone into it. The dirty little secret of DTV is unless you live in a high signal area, DTV isn't worth the expense. In the end, terrestal tv most likely will loose viewers to cable and or satellite operators.
ah, slip of the tongue. it was nice of you to point that out but did you have to be so rude about it. i'm trying to pass on some information and you show your appreciation by being disrespectful and unkind. little wonder the world is in the shape it is - shame on you!!
I have purchased a Digital Stream converter box and am thrilled. I designate Air as my source but it does list cable. When February comes, if I were a subscriber to Digital Cable, could I plug the coaxial cable from cable into my box and spare myself the rental fee? Please someone reply. I am asking because so many people tell me different things.
Thanks soo much for your videos on this subject...my issues are I've heard that some of those boxes don't show all channels..I guess the cheaper boxes, don't know, but I will check out your Brand names to see which one I should maybe purchase. You know isn't it funny...why they would have an expirtion Date on the card....why is That? This is the year 2008 Not 2009? Funny to me.
I just got the Insignia at Best Buy tonight, and I am really, really happy. I hooked up an old antenna to the box, and coax to my 37" analog tv, and presto, all my local channels crystal clear!
There's a bit of fumbling you gotta do with the settings. I set it to 4:3 and cropped, 16:9 works, but it turns into a box, and compressed makes everyone look crushed upwards. The audio setting should be set to mono. It doesnt really sound like mono, and the stereo is sort of faint.
The worse the reception is, the more metallic the sound.
I've got some buildings blocking two stations in my area, and they are coming in reduced signal, but I'm still getting them. I imagine an amplified antenna will help with this.
I've got four PBS channels, and an extra old reruns station i didnt know was there! I'm getting 15 channels now. I never thoguht cable was worth it, and friends had it, and Id rent DVDs. Now, I will definitely NEVER get it. That money can go into an HDTV.
I guess I need to consider this and also a portable type antenna that I can put up to receive the signal. We are on cable and I never really thought much about this.
I wonder if Radio Shack still sells those little el cheapo beam antenna's...
were do i buy a converter box?

The converter box hooks up to an antenna, which in my case, an outside antenna. I'm lucky to get my signals. The dish has stronger signal strenght.

You can plug the converter box directly into a projector and watch broadcasts. You don't even need a television.

There is an expiration date on the front of the card, it's at the bottom.
For emergencies people should also keep a battery operated radio on hand in case there is no power.
