Watch a film called Losing Isaiah, featuring Halle Berry, Then view "Queen," which stars the same actor as well. Then view the film she won an oscar for, Monsters Ball.
Also view Malcolm X, a film directed by Spike Lee which stars Denzel Washington. Then look at Training Day, the movie Denzel won an oscar for.
The Academy Awards, like many award shows in the United States, is a joke. It has a small amount of credibility, but only an inkling.

Yes, I saw the movie and it is the most over rated performance I've ever seen. All of her scenes are in the preview anyway. If they are going to give Monique an Academy award for playing fat, black, and ugly, they should also give her the lifetime achievement award!

I also want to say that maybe Samuel L. Jackson made that gesture because maybe he was like, "Why do they always have to zoom in on African American reactions, when an African American wins?" Or maybe he thought, "Okay, why is it being zoomed at me? I wasn't even in the movie" You know? lol. I'm sorry those are just my thoughts. I am glad Mo'nique won no matter what people say. I'm always rooting for minorities at the Ocars because honestly, it is a huge accomplishement and honor for them to be nominated as they say and for them to win it just really inspires others to follow that path. Why is that Extreme? I applaud every and anyone when they achieve something great. While white America disdains the fact that people feel a sense of accomplishment when an African American achieves something great is a testament of how far this nation has come.

She explained on Oprah what the '"politics" meant. Mo'nique faced criticism because she did not go to every single award festival and everything related to the movie in LA. It was hard for her to do because she has a live talk show 5 days a week, 4 children, and resides in Atlanta, GA due to her show. She is saying the Academy honors filmwork and not what the media thinks all actors should be doing in the public eye.
