"My musical mother was Nadia Boulanger and my musical father was Ravi Shankar, and I was their musical child" .. this is a very important fact to remember for those people who try to understand Philip Glass.
I love Phillip Glass.. I think there should be more Glass-Shankar colaborations in the future.. I loved Passages.. now, is it me or the interviewer looks just like Martin Luther King??
i figured he must've gotten confused. thank you for correcting me. god i feel so much better now, knowing he's not lying, and or, getting so old he's forgetting things.
The famed Schoenberg Quartets for Strings was recorded by The Juilliard String Quartet in 1951/52 and released several times, including 1978 on CBS Sony.
Glass maybe talking about Columbia ML4735 or SL188, "The complete string quartets of Arnold Schönberg, vol. I" both released in 1954.
From Google News: "Chicago Tribune - Jan 31, 1954 - On a world of disorientation might be a V subtitle for the Juilliard String Quartet's brilliant recordings of the four quartets of Arnold Schoenberg..."
my voice teacher called him "a charlatan". i pretended to agree and didn't tell him that I had been listening to Glass for years. need to start sticking up for him because i deeply love the music he makes
I find it amazing that anyone could consider Glass a charlatan.
However I'm also intrigued. Can you say why your teacher thought this. I don't dismiss other's opinions out of hand, I'm interested in what might be in someone's mind for them to reach such a conclusion.
I am also a mini-ma-list. I like PG and GG that's Glenn Gould the ultimate J.S Bach interpretor. Youtube video libraty has an excellent documentary on GG.
As a minimalist I hate AM/PM. You know the
stupid way of writing time like 10:26 PM
AM/PM sucks! Just write 22:26 that is the time in Bangkok as I write this commnetary.
Interesting interview with Philip Glass. His stories are lovely.

how rad it would be to have glass as yer (musical) grandfather - what a cool grandpa he would be!

There is a tour of the Glass/Wilson production of Einstein on the Beach in the works for 2011, I hope it becomes a reality.

he's lying. the juilliard quartet recorded the schoenberg: quartets for strings album in 1978. he would have been 41.
i hope i am wrong, but i'm almost 100% sure about this.
i still love you philip.
