  • You have to be the appropriate distance from the sensor bar.

  • thank you WiiFolderJosh for proving gamespot wrong :)

  • Thinking any major game reviewer would actually make an honest review unless said video game's developer actually paid off by the company.

    I shiggity wiggity

  • I don't know if this has been stated before, but the manoeuvre the critic tries to pull off at :22 requires slicing with both the wiimote AND then nunchuk. The move he pulls is just the forward slash, which means he was only waving the wiimote... haha

At least, that's how I found to make it work :P

  • @Blargio666 you are 100% correct sir, the reviewer executed that move wrongly.

  • watching the review of gamespot and then came here and i was like !?!!??

i am sure the guy who did the skywardsowrd review in gamespot is a fan of call of duty series.

  • lol @ grat Old Spice add

  • The controls were great! You just can't handle them properly... you need to actually LEARN how to control it, not just 'magically force the sword to move as you want!' what the hell were you expecting?

  • @TheDaViDsVidz Read the description... no offense but you're stupid(I don't mean it)

  • @WiiFolderJosh Hi!! My God!!! Received your sudden reply on my iPad inbox.

Seems I'm logged in at home with my younger bro at my Mac again!!

I apologise very much on his behalf! (He's gonna get it when I'm back!)

And btw even though I may look like it, I'm not even close to being hipster. ^_^

    Best regards, / Not-at-all-hipster-yet-looks-like-one-Hammid …

Ps. DAMMIT the iPad keyboard is tricky.

  • I have NEVER failed a finish move in Skyward Sword. Actually I think It's probably the easiest move to perform as you don't need to be spot on as long as you thrust both the mote and nunchuk at the same time. Poor reviewer...

  • LMAO..and they required ppl to get the motion plus gadget.......lmao...poor suckers

  • FACK THE GAMESPOT... poor excuse for a reviewer

  • owned :D

  • see that gamespot?

  • Gamespot sucks @ life. The end.

  • You can't spell ignorant without...wait, wrong reviewer.

  • @diddykongrulz There, there. We all know they're the same thing anyway, so it's okay if you get mixed up. It happens.

  • Comment removed

  • At first the controls was a little strange, but the sword for a controller was actually a genious way to play if you ask me :D

What i like about the motionplus control,

is it actually syncs the controller to the sensorbar position of were your pointing, so in that way, you don't even need too worry if something blocks your sensorbar, so pointing and doing moves is very nice without getting interupted.

Very good and fun Zelda game :D

  • They only argued that because Link is not using a gun.

  • @zxscd They only argued such because they're so obviously biased that they probably don't have a critic focusing on Nintendo games, so they put someone who doesn't obviously know how to use a Wiimote play the game's demo like for ten minutes and then did their "review" to cash in on the publicity that this game's hype generated.

  • I feel like whoever did the gamestop review just decided to spam swing instead of attempt to get into a proper sword fight. Of course if you swing like someone with epilepsy (no offense intended) then the controls aren't gonna work. I can almost bet that the control designers specifically wanted that with this game.

  • You're hot! Also, great rebuttal. Very classy.

  • People came into this game thinking that the controls will be a more accurate version of Twilight Princess and its waggle-fest. Here, you need to be much more deliberate, like handling a real sword; you're not gonna wave a real sword around like a deranged lunatic who hates their legs, right?

  • maybe the gamespot guy's motion plus was broken...

    or he's an idiot

  • @nartendowarz actually he used the remote in the wrong way. so yeah he's a dumbass

  • @nartendowarz I think he's an idiot.

  • @nartendowarz no, Gamespot corrupted purpose all over it...

  • @nartendowarz he didn't even have one. does anyone pay attention to directions any more!?

  • @nartendowarz I think it's just that sometimes when the action gets too much, I end up swinging the wii mote all over the place....that's probably why link gets confused...

  • Jerking your right hand back when stabbing will make Link do something else. It took me forever to figure that out, and it's probably why so many non-casual gamers struggle so badly with that particular move. >_<

  • This game is a great game, no question. But IDK, I just did not feel the same excitement as I did in games like OoT, Windwaker, and TP. It's great, but not amazing.

  • at first i thought it wasn't working well, but eventually i realized that i just sucked at it :DDDDD

  • The only move I have trouble with is stabbing, and it's not even that big of a deal.

  • @remick0 I know right, my arm just doesnt seem to work the right way xD

  • @remick0 I just keep doing a front flip spin attack

  • yes, yes it does work properly, just do the right fucking moves gamespot...good video =]

  • I can agree that my jabs not registering are probably my fault. The way my current set up is, I have no couches opposite the TV, so my moves may get misunderstood by the motion sensor.

  • So...Fuck you, Tom McShea!

  • I'm loving the game right now, but I do find the controls can pick up a different sword strike to the one I wanted sometimes. Perhaps I'm just not a skilled enough swordsman ;D

  • xD Best Gamespot rebuttel I've seen. Those sort of reviewers tho already try to hard to find things wrong with these type of games anyway and would normally blame the game rather than there shittyness as they prefer games like BW3 and CoD, etc.

  • Thank you! This game works wonderfully well given how new and rarely used the Wii MotionPlus is! I never have problems with the motions, and the only reason I fail a bit with Lizalfos is I like to run in with my sword-a-slashin', and don't take a moment to check the armguard position! xD

My own self failage there... But awesome rebuttal! I don't know why people think it's bad. Maybe bad calibration when they turn on the game?

  • Dafuq. How did you get him to do everything right? I was playing last night and that bastard refused to jab :/

  • @LivinOffAPrayer hold the wii remote towards the screen

  • @bobbycarrot247 I do that too...

  • Does anyone notice that Link is a righty in this game?

  • @HuggableSpongebob Everyone noticed that.

  • What's up with the hipster chillin out in da corner?

  • My biggest beef with Twilight Princess was the crap controls...I pray SS has improved them

  • Only times when skyward sword's controls go bad is when the batteries are dying XD You just have to be really careful not to shake your other arm when you shake the wiimote =P And vice-versa for the numchuck. It doesn't take skill to play this game well, takes steadiness ;D Although controls always go bad against Demise for me cuz I flail instead of swing when I go against him XD Hero mode only made that worse in that battle =P

  • Thank you for this! Sick and tired of people faulting the actual game when it's clearly either they haven't calibrated their remote properly, or are just not performing the correct technique.

  • my controls dont work much but it works but my nunchuck gets on my nerves because with out touching the control stick it moves on its own GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Here's why I think Gamespot thinks so; DON'T SWING THE WIIMOTE FAST.

If you're going to swing the wii remote in directions that you want without making them accurate first while doing it at a fast pace, you're obviously gonna see Link flail around everywhere.

The rules in the game are like fencing. In real life fencing, the user must make accurate slashes slowly in order to stay safe, otherwise they will lose.

  • Wow Gamestop gave Skyward Sword a 7.5/10 are you kidding me? But I'm sure MW3 got a 9 :P......

  • sure, the controls do mess up occasionally, but that is more the players fault for imperfect movement or a bad setup.

  • It's because alot of those big name reviewers (IGN, Gamespot, etc...) aren't gamers at all, they're just a bunch of dudes who are payed to play video games for a bit. Which is why alot of them suck.

  • I think anybody who gave this game less than 9/10 probably just /expected/ it to be not that great, because of the motion controls.

  • Controls are near perfect. You just gotta play properly.

  • Since some people report that the controls work fine (and are clearly genuine since they can demonstrate it, such as with this video) there are only two possibilities:

The first is that the people who complain about the controls not working are using broken controllers, and the second is that the problem's with them - they're simply not that good at it, just as one example. Considering I've never even come across a broken controller, I'd expect the second is more likely in most cases.

  • @PleaseInsertTitle lol the walmart i go to has a demo of skyward sword and the remote is broken as hell, and i can still beat the boss with ease so i agree with the second idea!

  • @PleaseInsertTitle ive come across a broken controller once but then it did try to fly through a brick wall (wasnt me)

  • There will always be haters... and fanboys u_u

  • I was so pissed when I watched their review, it made me want to find the guy and slowly kill him, while I played Skyward Sword. The guy was a complete moron who did not know what he was talking about.

  • @Soulsythe1 You got pissed because a reviewer didn't share the same opinion with you about a video game and would even go as far as making a death threat...

    Sounds perfectly healthy.

  • Just one comment for the reviewer. STAND YOU LAZY ASS FAGGOT!!!!!

  • @zettapiface you clearly do not understand the nature of this video. IT IS NOT A REVIEW, read the description faggot

  • The only problem I really had playing this game, was whenever I needed to stab something. But other than that everything else was perfectly fine.

  • He was so happy when he defeated that (annoying) lizard x)

  • Actually, these problems exist. Jabbing hardly works when you want it to do. And the delay from swing to action in Wii remote can hinder you at times.

  • @TheMasterStubbs And the skyward strike.

  • I think whoever was testing for the editors just sucked at playing games?

  • The only problem with the controls is the swimming and the GOD DAMNED SHIELD.

  • faltó mostrar el escudo

  • The controls would only mess up for me if you swung like a mad man for about a minute or if you tried to confuse it. I'm guessing that GameSpot did both of these. They aren't the most competent group.

  • yes hes right, when you are retarded i can see that the game might be a little difficult to play

  • I didn't have trouble at all mastering the controls, but I still had issues with the game. When flying the bird, it would suddenly spin around in a circle even though I was holding the wiimote straight. Sometimes Link would be holding the sword in the opposite direction I would be pointing too. No, it's not the wiimote having problems because it responds just fine with other games. Still, the game was pretty fun to play even with the few annoying glitches.

  • Dunno what to tell you, man, but it never worked like that for me. I don't really see what I could be doing wrong with 1:1 motion controls, but there you go. Say it's my fault if you want, I know it isn't.

  • @Ridnarhtim My god are you dense, it's obviously a joke

  • If your having problems controling link, you have to practice. I used to thinl the trust was so hard to pull of put what I was doing wrong is I didnt put the wiimote in frount of me and fully extended my arm. This game is amazing only flaw so far was having to go through the forest temple twice.

  • I question the general intelligence of anyone who couldn't intuitively get in to these controls in under a couple of hours.

  • Comment removed

  • Except for the occasional aiming difficulties in first person mode, this game is near perfect.

  • In summary, Gamespot knows jack shit.

  • Guys the point of this video is to show that skyward swords controls are completely accurate and respond perfectly with you, this is responding to the gamespot review saying its controls were inaccurate, this video is just proving that the controls work flawlessly

  • The only problem I had was the stupid harp. That thing didn't do anything I wanted it to.

  • @keero16 it did for me, you probably don't have rhythm

  • The "error" doesn't come from the bad controls, (How the video show its perfect) but for the position of the link's hand at the moment of strike, sometimes when hitting enemies fast your hand gets a different position than link and the next strike will start from link hand's position not yours then comes the "error",in 2 hours of playing you learn that and rarely this will happen again, just need attetion to make perfect slashs, a sword its not a toy 8P, anyway it's my opinion and sorry my bad eng

  • I agree with you, I'm tired of all these reviewers who fault good games on not only little details, but when they're wrong altogether. Except of course first person shooters because those are always perfect :/

  • Looks good to me.

  • WiiFolderJosh should have made it more obvious that he's mocking Gamespot's review. Too many YouTubers are incapable of reading descriptions, and it's very frustrating.

The motion controls for the sword fighting was spot on. The stab motion could have been a little quicker to respond, but that's it.

An option to control all the other things like swimming/flying with the analogue and buttons would have been nice, because it's there where the control falters.

P.S. This is the best game ever.

  • hahaha is that how u swing a sword now hahahaha i guess the only reason that u guys think it inaccurate is because ur not master sword material

  • the video just proved itself wrong. the game has amazing controls.

  • @0nintendofan0 Read the description of the video.

  • Yeah, the only trouble I had was doing the fatal blow. Besides that, nothing really.

  • I'm glad the guy in the video found the controls in this game to be accurate. I didn't.

  • Yes, the control may not be a 100% accurate, but this game is still amazing.

  • Skyward Sword's controls work just fine! I beat the game and Link is doing exactly what this guy is doing in the demonstration. Sometimes you just need to recalibrate the controller.

  • @Animetalchick it's a joke against the gamespot reviewer, read the fucking description

  • @Animetalchick FINALLY someone who understands that just because it is a REBUTAL, DOESNT MEAN YOU CANNOT COMMENT.

I 100% agree with you. This game is great, you just have to get used to using the controls. Btw, it feels good to not be the only girl commenting on this vid :) I am tired of ppl calling me the generic "dude" >.>'

  • @Animetalchick yeah my nunchuck is FUCKED UP! it messes up/wont respond, so ill just reconnect my wii-mote then works like a beauty

  • how can it be inaccurate when we watched you kill a boss and there were no problems with the controls whatsoever ?

  • @haribo41296 Look at the description of this video.

  • After you calibrate for Skyward Sword, it doesn't even use the sensor bar. I put my sensor bar away while I'm playing.

  • Fuck you fred

  • the controls work. I only had to calibrate it like once or twice during my playing sessions and its not a big hassle and all.

  • Simple solution. If your controls suck, go out and spend 20 bucks to get a new sensor bar. I have played Skyward Sword with the WiiMote Plus (WiiMote with MotionPlus built in) and a regular WiiMote with the MotionPlus attached, and the only time my controls went spazzy is when the batteries in my sensor bar died. If you have the original sensor bar that isn't wireless, there's a good chance it's a problem with the wires. Go out, buy a battery-powered wireless one, and see what that does.

  • @HyruleKing12988 Yup, it worked the same way for me, too. I tried playing with my sensor bar turned off, and it did not work well AT ALL. I guess that the MotionPlus is heavily reliant on the sensor bar.

  • I don't think anyone knows what rebuttal means.

  • i find the guy playing on the right irritating for some reason lol

  • The only time it's inaccurate is when I get frustrated (because I suck) and I just start swinging around the remote.

  • looks pretty accurate to me :D

  • They probably just swin around like twits haha (altho we all kinda look silly when we play wii xD)

But yeh it is accurate if you dont swing like a madmen and put efford in it

  • problem?

i´ve never hadproblems with da controls

  • MetalShadowChaos ... noob

  • Gamespot must be bad at calibrating their controls.

  • 0:22

If you are actually capable of botching that up you have absolutely no right to be reviewing this kind of thing rofl.

  • My little bro was almost finished with the game and he had no issues with the game whatsoever.

  • The controls in all honesty are a bit shit, not inaccurate, but they have weird issues like if you try to hit left and get blocked, if you try to switch to right to quickly it will swing in the same direction again because its based on the swords position, not the swing, and there was one instance for no reason link was holding it left when I was holding it right, there was no danger I was just cutting grass, then 20 seconds of link being a fag and 2 brothers laughing at nintendos efforts.

  • I think the trick is to calibrate it properly. You should put the wiimote as the picture shows with the "face" (A-button etc) down towards the floor. And the floor is also a good flat surface to put it on. I used to have a hard time thrusting the sword myself... the scorpion boss and the ... guys who jump around with windmills on their head... were unnecessarily hard.

  • Yeah, I have this game, too. It's definitely accurate as long as you aren't sitting in a weird spot or using lazy arm movements.

  • That was the stupidest Lizalfo Ive ever seen. A shame to his kind.

  • Yo mama is inaccurate...

  • I'm sick of people whining about how the Gamespot people suck at the game. I've had the same problem, so does that mean I'm bad at Zelda games? I've beaten the original NES game and Ocarina of time, and I finished the Water Temple with relative ease. This has nothing to do with skill. I have to resync my Wiimote really often, and even then theres sometimes trouble. It doesn't happen with everyone (my friend's game worked fine when I tried it). It seems that some have this problem and some don't.

  • @firearrow2000 Sorry bro, you really do suck, either that or you need to get that wiimote checked cos I've never had a problem like that.

Also, you're talking about skill and backing it up with a few older games with an entirely different control scheme, what's your point? When it comes to swordplay the Water Temple is as easy as all the rest.

And ftr, Gamespot really does suck, being an absolute noob is pretty much a prerequisite for a job there.

  • @FlamingForce I don't know much about Gamespot. You could be right about them. I was just using famous examples from other Zelda games to show that I wasn't someone who picked up this game with no prior skill or knowledge of the series. I've found the game's difficulty to be about the same as the rest. Maybe the problem is that I'm swinging my Wiimote too dramatically; maybe it's the bright sunlight from the nearby window. I'm just saying that certain conditions can cause it to not work right.

  • @firearrow2000 Short swings are all that is neccesary, as this video clearly shows, the game is very capable of having a pretty damn accurate response to the Wiimote's movements, whatever's up with your setup, you should consider changing it if it's really that much of a problem to play the game.

  • @FlamingForce I'll give it a shot.

  • Didn't look inaccurate.

  • I only had a problem fighting Lizalfos in this game... e_e Evil Lizalfos! Crafty little bastards with their "Look at me and my swift dodge ability! Mweheheh!" ....and then I picked up their tail. Who's laughing now you little scaly jerk?

  • I know most people's problem with the controls. The game actually does use the sensor bar for calibrating the sword's position. But that's it. However, if there is a source of light coming from the sun into the room at all, the controller will calibrate to that instead of the sensor bar, since all the controller does is detect infrared light. Therefore, the game will get confused and constantly change calibration sources. This, I've found is the source of most people's problems.

  • @cowmilk9999 So....Nintendo are reinforcing the idea of all gamers being people who play in dark basements and so forth? Because I can't turn my sunlight off.

  • @masterofdoom5000 Eh, take from it what you will.

  • Love how in the video the game takes perfectly every slash, makes sound stupid the guy

  • From my experience its all very accurate apart from the stab, but im almost 100% convinced this is because im using the wii motion + add on for a controller i got on launch. So i imagine the proper wii motion + controller would be perfect as shown here. The guy from gamespot had no idea what he was talking about.

  • A good rule of thumb is to make calm, deliberate swings, having already made sure that your sword is properly oriented. You only need to make a slow, but smooth positioning of your arm when you need to change the direction of your swing (for Moblins/Ghirahim)

A calm and steady sword arm is what is necessary, even in the virtual world.

Also, cool to see someone using the wiimote right in tandem with the game, makes you appreciate how well the controls were designed.

  • If the Sword is not doing what its told then you pause the game and either press down to re-position the Wii Remote, or pause and hold the D-Pad, anyone who likes the game could have figured that out.

  • why am i watching this??? i dont even have a wii...

  • recalibrate the remote

  • I hate the reviewer (Tom Mc Shea) that reviewed Skyward Sword (And other games he reviews). If someone else in Gamespot reviewed it, they would have gave it a better rating and review. :I

  • I think what this guy is getting at is the motion controls are fine, and that it is player error, not technical

  • @kazoowarrior97 That should be bottomline obvious, yes.

IGN, Gamespot, all those asinine "video-game websites" worship Call of Duty, any kind of First-Person Shooter that exists, free-roaming bullshit with little to no noteworthy storyline and all things manly and retarded. When faced with a game that actually requires you to have more than two digits-worth of IQ, they can't hack it, and label it as bad.

I can just picture one of their primates going: "URK! DURRR! LINK NO SLASH LOLOL GAME BAD!"

  • These comments are hilarious, Josh I feel bad for you

  • hello? its not inaccurate. I have this game. It just takes time to learn how to swing the sword correctly. You just have to learn to actually TRY. This isnt a sitting-down game. It actually takes EFFORT.

  • @yoshpit222 A lot of people may have the perception to recalibrate their own movements to fit a video-game and will likely start slashing like morons in front of a TV, and that I can understand. But as far as I'm concerned, I've never had a single problem with the controls. And I am a Gamer that very, very rarely gives in to overhyping, so naturally I was fearful for unresponsive controls.

I did feel like I needed a second analog for the first few minutes, but the auto-camera works wonders.

  • @RebornAleph *may NOT have the perception

  • @yoshpit222 If a game requires actual effort to learn how to tire yourself out, there's a serious design flaw.

  • @MetalShadowChaos the wii was originally made to be a nintendo system that actually makes you have to get up and play. There is nothing wrong with a little effort and for the record: I play this game all of the time and I don't get tired unless I'm just swinging the sword around like crazy. What I'm trying to say is, don't be lazy, but don't play crazy either. Learn how to swing the sword correctly, and make sure you calibrate your wiimote correctly.

  • @yoshpit222 The fact that the point of the console was to 'make you get up' was a bad idea in the first place. Genius, as non-gamers would be enticed to play it. But still a bad idea. I play games to sit back and relax, not wave my arms about in an attempt to badly mimic a sword. It doesn't help that I have to get up to put the remote on a flat surface to calibrate it. Weather you calibrate it 'correctly' or not doesn't matter, you have to calibrate it again every 5-10 minutes.

  • @MetalShadowChaos I can sit down and play this game with absolutely no problem. I don't have to stand up, and I sure as hell don't have to calibrate my WiiMotion Plus every 5 to 10 minutes. I can sit down, calibrate the WiiMotion Plus once, and play for 3-5 hours straight (longer if I don't stop to give myself a break or change the batteries in either my WiiMote or my Sensor Bar).

  • @MetalShadowChaos you are right, some people do not prefer to move when they play games, but that does not mean every console in existance will be made to accomodate their preferences.

  • @MetalShadowChaos and for another record: I am definately a GAMER. I enjoy wii. Is that so bad?

  • @MetalShadowChaos: Tire yourself out?

You can play this game in a comfy chair and just give swings a good flick of the wrist. It's not as tiring as some people make it out to be.

  • @yoshpit222 hello? it's called a REBUTTAL.

  • @yoshpit222 That was the point of the video... Hence why it's called a REBUTTAL. This video was intended as a counter to Gamespot's review of Skyward Sword in which they said that the "sword does not always perform the right move. This is especially true when you perform a jab..."

  • @HyruleKing12988 your'e not the first to tell me that. I am not trying to start an argument, but I still commented on this video because of what gamestop is saying. I know the video is a rebuttal, but nevertheless, I still commented. There are many other comments on here similar to mine; mine just became a top comment so I guess everyone wants to respond to it. :/

  • @HyruleKing12988 This is true, ami I spend many times when I wanted to link attack from the bottom up, instead it left to right, that's a little frustrating, I had to continuously calibrate,I prefer the old school control, but as the xbox or playstation it out (wireless), not as primary as the wii control, I mean that the Xbox has the kinetic and control playstation Move In Browsing, and secondary n primary controls ever, so I prefer I, well I think that's my, having a nice day!

  • @yoshpit222 I do agree it takes effort, but alot of the time when i had to do the battles against Girahim, i was unable to kill him because the stupid fucking controls would say i swung my sword a different way.. As well, the lunge ability can be a real bitch when trying to kill the robot things with the eyes..

  • @LilithImmacualte yes, the sensor can be a bit off, but most of the time, with most players, it is because they swing the sword around so much without trying to be accurate. It is good to hear an intelligent reply from someone. :)

  • @yoshpit222 dude this video is a REBUTTAL you fucking idiot

  • @NuclearChickenPie first of all, I am not an idiot, and second of all, I am most certainly not a DUDE. I know that this a REBUTTAL. Does that not mean I can't comment?

  • after seeing the guy doing the demonstration I could just hear Homer Simpson driving his car up to my window and yelling, "NNNNEEEERRRRRDDDDD!!!!!!"

  • I found that I had the problem with inaccuracy too, just like Gamespot said. Unlike Gamespot, I actually had the sense to move my sensor bar farther back away from me. Worked like a charm after a couple feet.

  • HERE TAKE MY MONEY, BUT PLEASE STOP SHOWING ME ADS FOR F**CK'S SAKE...

  • I agree with the original review. The controls need constant adjustment to be kept in a reasonable state, and even then it usually fails at simple stuff.

  • @MetalShadowChaos You only need to "adjust" anything when you're aiming in first person or flying that infuriating bug thing. Other than that, works fine.

  • @CrayonScarf Not for me, I need to keep putting the remote back on the floor for recalibration. Its pissy.

  • @MetalShadowChaos Then either buy a WiiMotion Plus, or get yours fixed. Or otherwise reconfigure the position of your sensor or screen.

Because, honestly, I hooked my Wii up to an old TV at my girlfriends' parents house, and it works just as wonderful as it does on my big screen.

  • @RebornAleph ... you can't play the game WITHOUT WiiMotionPlus.

And I've shifted both the sensor bar, the TV and even my own position in relation to the TV and I still need to put the remote on the floor every 10 minutes or so to make Link slash in the right direction.
