It isn't known as "the clockwork orange" - say that in Glasgow and you'll get your face laughed off. It's a myth invented by English journalists and travel book writers.
Weirdly we call it, "The Underground" - crazy, huh...??? ;-)
This is awesome.... I'm obssessed with metro trains for some reason.
I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada ... our STM (Societe Transport de Montreal) is, in my opinion, the best (we use rubber tires, so it is pretty much silent in comparison).. and there are always announcements of "Prochaine Station... ..
I DO like the Glasgow one though.. it has a very quaint and charming feel to it... although I hope they fix those squealing sounds!
@super58173 Whoops, did I say "tyres"? I meant "wheels" lol ...
Yeah , the Montreal Metro was rated as the best globally at some point for a bunch of reasons, one of them being its use of rubber wheels rendering it virtually silent (mechanically at least)!
Although., I have to say, the squeaking of the Glasgow subway somehow is endearing.. kind of like a quaint quality that, in the end, you might want to keep because it gives the whole thing a certain character and quality...
I haven't been on the Subway for years, The smell is cool. The New York subway has a similar smell only with a light haze of decomposing rubbish in the air. I live in new york now and can't wait to go back home for a holiday, im deffo gonna go for a ride on the subway. I agree with everyone that the trains need to be upgraded. But on the other hand it does add to the character of the it. The Glasgow Subway is an experience in its own!
Clockwork Orange was just a name used in some newspaper articles after they rebuilt the line and introduced the new orange rolling stock. No normal person ever called it that.
What was that at around 2:40? It seemed as if the train driver was looking out of the cab to see if all the passengers have got on or not. Don't they have CCTV monitors at the end of platforms like in London?
Excellent video, correct me if i'm wrong but i believe Glasgow underground is the 3rd oldest underground system in the world, i think it is living history - but i do actually prefer London Underground but the main reason for that is that it is much more extensive.
fab little trains though, really really need to do something about those brakes though! and apparently the 'smell' has been a constant companion of the underground for its hundred or so years of history!
Well I was on it during Bonfire Night last year...and it was absolutely packed! It was hard to even stand! Admittedly, thats only once a year, so I only think it gets like that during big events.
Nice vid. - I'm from Toronto, Ontario. - If you'd like to check out the TTC [Toronto Transit Commission], just type in 'ttc toronto', and off you go. :-)

@ammarios - Wait, your subway has tires?
Like a People Mover? Or a BUS?
...anyway, the squeaking would come from the steel wheels.

And the floor is lower than platform, ceiling is lower than usual man height?
