  • sqeeky clean

  • someone should see to those brakes

  • Comment removed

  • i love them old ed mcbains.

  • Check out

  • It isn't known as "the clockwork orange" - say that in Glasgow and you'll get your face laughed off. It's a myth invented by English journalists and travel book writers.

Weirdly we call it, "The Underground" - crazy, huh...??? ;-)

  • i was on that today twice on ma way to Tam shepards and it took me home again love the wee underground great way to get about ;)

  • Theres been a murder

  • This is awesome.... I'm obssessed with metro trains for some reason.

I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada ... our STM (Societe Transport de Montreal) is, in my opinion, the best (we use rubber tires, so it is pretty much silent in comparison).. and there are always announcements of "Prochaine Station... ..

I DO like the Glasgow one though.. it has a very quaint and charming feel to it... although I hope they fix those squealing sounds!

  • @ammarios Sorry But live in glasgow (Cumbernauld) and if they fixed those squeeking sounds the train wouldnt have brakes!

  • @southerntrains3 Since when's Cumbernauld part of Glasgow its 10 mile away!

  • @davidn87 It is under Strathclyde Glasgow and is a Glasgow postalcode! :P lol

  • @ammarios - Wait, your subway has tires?

Like a People Mover? Or a BUS?

...anyway, the squeaking would come from the steel wheels.

  • @super58173 Whoops, did I say "tyres"? I meant "wheels" lol ...

Yeah , the Montreal Metro was rated as the best globally at some point for a bunch of reasons, one of them being its use of rubber wheels rendering it virtually silent (mechanically at least)!

Although., I have to say, the squeaking of the Glasgow subway somehow is endearing.. kind of like a quaint quality that, in the end, you might want to keep because it gives the whole thing a certain character and quality...

  • The Shooglie, It was always called "The Shoogie"

  • I haven't been on the Subway for years, The smell is cool. The New York subway has a similar smell only with a light haze of decomposing rubbish in the air. I live in new york now and can't wait to go back home for a holiday, im deffo gonna go for a ride on the subway. I agree with everyone that the trains need to be upgraded. But on the other hand it does add to the character of the it. The Glasgow Subway is an experience in its own!

  • Are the units made by Metro Cammell? They look simular to the 1970s lul stock.

  • @globalcentralline I know nothing about trains but it says Metro Cammell on the floor just inside the doors.

  • Makes the Toronto Subway look like very heaven

  • @KrzyCanuck

My friend from Totonto who has just visited Glasgow says she prefers the Clockwork Orange!

  • They looked better painted orange. Not plastered with ads.

  • OMG! I remember travelling on this the last time I visited Glasgow! Best subway EVER

  • Dirty Milf at 3.00

  • @dynamicz108 hahahahahaha

  • the ol' clocki orange in glasgow has some rough ride! i canni believe they huvna upgrade their trains fully yet!

  • london underground is giant

  • london underground is better

  • Agreed, London Underground is much better.

  • @mrted01 that coz London underground is 15 times the size.

  • great vid a went on it on saturday

  • Great system needs investment and poss expanded ,

  • It needs investment but only to clean up the current state, I would not like to see modernisation I like the 80's feel to the place.

  • isnt this the station thats on timesplitters?

  • claustrophobic

  • Nice video... but I don't know of ANYONE who ever calls it the Clockwork Orange... it's just called the Subway...

  • Clockwork Orange was just a name used in some newspaper articles after they rebuilt the line and introduced the new orange rolling stock. No normal person ever called it that.

  • their arent any normal people in glasgow,or indeed scotland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • There are you know. I met some very nice and "normal" people there when visiting in 2008.

  • Do the doors so low, or its a vision cheat?

And the floor is lower than platform, ceiling is lower than usual man height?

  • The best thing about the glasgow subway is you can get cookies and crisps and a drink with your foot long

  • They really need to fix that noise. I couldn't hear my friend sitting right next to me last time I was on the Glasgow subway.

  • Glasgow subway???

  • yes the glasgow subway.

  • Never heard of it. :P

  • What was that at around 2:40? It seemed as if the train driver was looking out of the cab to see if all the passengers have got on or not. Don't they have CCTV monitors at the end of platforms like in London?

  • Yes, they have those black ceiling orb thingies.

  • love it after the football at ibrox on a freezing cold afternoon when you walk down to a nice toasty warm subway lol. good times

  • Excellent video, correct me if i'm wrong but i believe Glasgow underground is the 3rd oldest underground system in the world, i think it is living history - but i do actually prefer London Underground but the main reason for that is that it is much more extensive.

fab little trains though, really really need to do something about those brakes though! and apparently the 'smell' has been a constant companion of the underground for its hundred or so years of history!

  • Correct you are sir, after the London Underground and budapest Subway.

  • I cant imagine them spending any money to replace the trains :p

  • the trains need replacing .

there simular to the 1972 stock on the london underground.

  • right, my next holiday is to glasgow

  • We thought it was cool

  • The doors on those trains are like the 1972 stock in London.

  • Looks like not many people use it. Does it ever get crowded during rush hour?

  • Well I was on it during Bonfire Night last year...and it was absolutely packed! It was hard to even stand! Admittedly, thats only once a year, so I only think it gets like that during big events.

  • They look better than you

  • haha very true.

and yeah they do look like old tube stock.

  • Nice vid. - I'm from Toronto, Ontario. - If you'd like to check out the TTC [Toronto Transit Commission], just type in 'ttc toronto', and off you go. :-)

    -LB

  • The smell is great. Its like a damp musty smell.

As for the trains. In serious need of scrapping or at least a major refurbishment.

  • Lovely film, I love the smell! :-)

  • believe me your not missing anything. to damn hot.

  • /watch?v=H7vmiS6Yx8Q

  • i traveled it whit the "bve train"

try it. its really cool .

  • Very good! I like :-)

  • It's about time they were replaced, the brakes sound dreadful...

  • much better than LU...lol
