My best time on PAL version was about 26 min with the same strategy and equipment damned PAL is just 3 min slower so I don't think he speed up the video:)

IMO Penance is the hardest boss in the FF history due the fact he cannot be beaten with a low level party. Freaks beat Omega MK. XII in NLBLLG, beat Trema with a low level party, beat Ozma on Lv. 1, Omega Weapon in FFVIII, Emerald and Ruby Weapon with Tifa Lv7 solo, and I believe all other super bosses from FF1 - FF6 too. Penance is just impossible with a NSG party :)

People should really use a grenade, then hit Penance's arms each 5 times. Saves a turn.

I forget: did you use Dispel on Penance after he shed a certain part of his body? He is in haste-mode, but it's not Auto-Haste, so you can dispel it.

i have a question. Why do people go for the arms first? Does Penance produce a very strong attack with them?

The hands give annoying status effects and are far worse than penance itself. Also when penance has a turn with both hands he will sometimes use a attack what kills the whole party (Game Over).

penance is the hardest boss in any ff game so far you can only fight him in the international and platinum version of the game.Believe me you are going to hate this guy not to mention the dark aeons as well. brings me back bad memories.

Penance is quite easy, just use celestials+auto-haste/protect/­potion/defence+20%. Sell all of your potions and hi-potions, use cheerx4, have 99 x-potions, make killing the arms your first priority, and dispel the breaks in the second phase. You can't lose. In my opinion, Anima and especially the Magus Sisters are harder, though they are also pretty easy.

From what I can work out, the armour abilities are: Break HP Limit, Auto-Regen, Auto-Haste, and Auto-Protect. Not the way I'd do it personally, but everyone has their own play style, and at least you can prove this method works. Mind you since I have PAL version the best I can manage is around 40 mins.

No. His characters are all under Haste status(which is almost-a-must) in this fight. When under Haste, all the character's actions are much faster(casting magic, attacking, winning pose.etc) BTW.

Your probably watching the PAL version, their timer is like 17.87% slower... or somthing like that.

Nope. I own FFX Int.(Not PAL) and found that this vid is faster. The best time in beating Penance is around 40 mins. PAL also have black borders on the top and bottom of the screen (as far as I know). There's no PAL International version, just either one of them, most other vids are in Int versions.

Its sort of like Nemesis from the regular FFX, as in you need to do just about everything possible to even face it, and is only available in the Final Fantasy X International version.
