Erykah and Chaka have some of the most amazing mixed voices ever. Sounds like she's belting in chest, but if you have a really delicate ear, she "belts" high notes in mixed voice (strong edgy head voice) like the other r&b/soul high "belters", but with an incredible, strong sound.

I Ms. Badu for not becoming just another Whitney, Mariah, or Celine cause with those vocals and her song writing skills she couldv'e been if she wanted. I did not know Erykah could SANG like that until I saw her giving a tribute to Chaka Khan at the soul train awards but then again her music is powerful and speak for itself so there is really no need for the vocal theatrics to get her message across. I just wish she would sang like this a little bit more on some of her songs.

Please the only pop singer that could belt as high as loud as Erkah was Whitney and you betta believe Nippy in her prime could hit C6's and above in mixed voice. I heard her even belt a A5/Bb5 in pure chest alone not mixing at all. Mariah wish she could belt those notes.

I know people who are huge fans of her and can attest to that her belts are mostly head driven. Maybe she, like Chaka, can alter how much head/chest she uses, I don't know. I just go by what I hear, not saying this is a bad thing. I love her style, her tone is just grating at times IMO.

Other than the B5s I disagree. Theres times when she does use head than chest, but in this video she has a good amount of chest in her Bb5s and Gs. Im surprised her belting is as powerful as it is with her voice being so high and pure

That is the case for Sopranos. And bein' one she makes great use of her headvoice in the 6th octave. I've heard her hit a spectacular D6 but I'm not sure how high she can really get. Guess I'll have to wait for part 2. =)
