Its so cool listening to these guys, I was in Tucson and I was on the freeway watching them, and listening to them at the same time. So cool to show how calm they're able to stay while pulling up to 5 G's. Blue Angels Rock!!!!!!
Just for the record, if anyone hasn't seen the Blue Angels depart for the flight demo, from whatever air strip they are parked at, it is well worth seeing. The ground crew kinda does their thing with a fine demonstration of military bearing. That's how inspiring these fighter pilots are....you want to emulate them after attending one of their flight demos.
@SGadd87 A little drive is easying on the stick to allow the aircraft to drop. It's just like adding some down elevator but each pilot has to fight 40 pounds of pressure to maintain level.
@Dashiznit117 So what you meant to say was that you don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about. No one gives a shit about FS9 "Lead Solo" pilots. Welcome to the Internet. Sweet callsign, slick.
The only reason I think this is a practice is because they're marking the circle. Whenever the blues arrive they do a practice and mark the airspace by using one centerpoint on the ground and tell the comcart to mark it.
@DianaBoston This is actually a practice show, all their communications are between each other and MO (Maintenance Officer) observes from the ground and communicates the quality of the manuvers that were just performed
Well in San Francisco, centerpoint is in the bay. So mile markers may be hard to establish. One mile may be nothing (they may have to do manual marking). Im not sure so dont take my word for it.
This isn't the show, this is the practice correct? Hey Airboyd, do you have their call signs? I'm a member of the Blue Angels & friends network. Are you on there too? The voice melodies help the pilots adjust and they melodies all mean different types of corrections.
The recording indicates it was Sunday, the day they flew. So, I don't know. It's essentially the same though, no? The pilot names and ship numbers are in the info tab on the right. Click "more info"
But what was with the slight melody that the one guy had, is that just to help with the choreography so the messages are clearer or did he just want to have a melody?
Yes is the answer. ;) It's part of his 'cadence.' He says everything in a rhythm and how he draws out words or changes his inflection affects the reaction of his wingmen.
@aaron8862006 What does it mean when he says "A little pull"? Pull Gs? Whatever it means, it obviously works for them. Is the leader the only one talking? I would think so. At one point he says, "Corky detach"....and Corky calls "clear". God I love this stuff.
@Dashiznit117 As fast as they fly, it would seem that taking the time to say, "a little pull"....that the moment when a little pull was needed would be long gone. I don't get it. At other times they seem to talk on the frequency and they seem to anticipate what each other is saying....and their replies are VERY short and clipped....barely giving time for the VOX mic to pick up what they said into it.
@JetMechMA They practice the shows *extensively* and learn to associate each plane's movement with spoken word, phrase, or "gesture"... all of the pilots know the entire show sequence by memory and can tell by these gestures if the other pilots are "on-track" without even looking at them! There was a cable special one time that showed the Blue Angels running through a show completely by memory (all seated, eyes closed, moving imaginary controls) and it was a truly amazing sight... !
@JetMechMA Fs9 BlueAngel 5 "Ghost" "That's because we practice everyday and when we call out stuff theres a delay so we keep up with the delay time.....also flying in formation is a very big visual thing compared to doing IFR's flights or VOR's there's also different dynamics of the plane vering on temp, humidity wind speed everything ,and we also do a briefing on how much we will be pulling what we will be doing and we practice it at different airports everyday" feel free to ask Q's.
@Dashiznit117 I'm tired of these 1337 internet pilotz coming on here and acting like they actually know what these aviators are doing. Again, no one cares about you flying for an imaginary demo team on the internet. And to announce something like that reeks of douchebaggery. Calling me a "27 year-old virgin" is honestly hilarious coming from the Chuck Yeager of the keyboard. Get lost.
@JetMechMA - Hi, hope I'm not too late for you to see this. "A little Pull" is a call made by Boss to call for increased back-pressure on the stick. It's done on cadence very consistently so that every pull is identical and simultaneous. Boss makes that call after rolling into a turn, going up for a loop or roll, etc.
They actually all talk. There are two COMM channels set up with the Diamond on one and Solos on the other. Boss often receives acknowledgment for calls from every pilot.
@JetMechMA - (continued) Every time Boss calls the next maneuver name, you'll hear each pilot call in with their callsign in sequence. For example, when he calls for the Delta Roll you can hear "Dino, Kitty, Gopher, Corky, Walleye."
The solos are also talking almost constantly on their channel. For the delta maneuvers, they switch to Boss' channel. You can hear Corky AND Walleye talking constantly in this video.
That's Boss in the #1 F-18. He "sings" to keep cadence for the others to follow while they're in formations.

The pilot sounds so bored at 10:18. Haha, great video. I've ALWAYS wanted to go to a Blue Angel's airshow. The pilots are amazing!

They use a boat and mark it with GPS. That's how they'd do a centerpoint over water.

They all sit in a room with their eyes closed. They sing a song in chorus. They imagine all maneuvers.
Then they fly and sing the same "song".
I wish I knew more than that.
