But then again, I focus more on MMA than on boxing, so that may be the issue. I believe that once MMA becomes recognized on the level of boxing such that the average Joe hears "Shogun Rua is fighting Rashad Evans" and knows what that means, it'll have that special something.
Dude in all those countries Boxing is way more popular . Maybe Brazil is the only one but thats very debatable as MMA is not as popular as a sport in Brazil as one would think.

@stuntmanloco He did come back after his defeat, fought Spanish Euro Champ Calvo and he looked clinical and more subdued. Crowd booed their asses off after each round though, and around the third round he lost the sheer predator clinical punching he showed in the first rounds trying to win the crowd over.
I'm still not sure, when I watch that fight, why the crowd was booing him. If you watch him, he looks, just, CLINICAL in the first three.
Nas was a great fighter, awesome to watch. =D

Its a sad thing but boxing clubs are closing down all over the world, so I wouldnt beleive that alot of MMA fighters "would if they could". One: Lesnar, much as I hate him, is a two-time NCAA wrestling champ. He is a legitimate fighter.
Two: More people know who Chuck Liddell is than know who Juan Manuel Marquez is. The new generation is growing up weaned on MMA. Boxing at the moment is too corrupt and fragmented; the best won't fight the best. The last golden age was the eighties with Hearns and the other three kings.
Three: Slice got cut after two fights. Take from that what you will.

In my opinion (as a boxing fan), boxing is currently degenerating. The best won't fight the best and there isn't an Ali, Tyson, or Leonard who the average Joe off the street will buy PPVs just to watch. Plus, there's so much corruption that most fights are suspect.
Once MMA fighters can be as financially secure as boxers, I believe MMA will surpass boxing.

Boxing will never die. It has survived tough times, it will certainly survive this. As for MMA, yeah, it has a following, but it will never surpass boxing as long as all the fights look like dry-humping on the ground.

I understand what you're saying, but I feel the opposite way: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen made me much more anxious than any recent boxing match I can remember.
But then again, I focus more on MMA than on boxing, so that may be the issue. I believe that once MMA becomes recognized on the level of boxing such that the average Joe hears "Shogun Rua is fighting Rashad Evans" and knows what that means, it'll have that special something.
