After I die running away from the chopper, the AI shuts down so the scripted event where Alyx saves you from the combines can't happen and you get stuck in the little room.

you mean in the very beginning of the game? as far as i know there is no chopper.

where did you die? its really hard to die in that first level

In the beginning of the game, before you get any weapons, when you're running through city 17 from the combine. Where they're shooting at you while you're running on the roof and you meet alyx for the first time. The AI dies, so no computer controlled characters can move.

Valve kicks ass, no questions, but this is apparently a common issue.

I know what it is. This mod only works properly on 64 bit systems. You will need a 64-bit processor and Windows Vista/7 64-bit.

nonsense I played this with a machine containing a 6600gt, 1GB of RAM and a 2.8ghz pentium 4 it worked well

good for you then, i just say what i read and i also think that to have this playable at highest settings you need the bigger system.

btw: you do realize that this is not the HL, this is half life with the cinematic mod.
