Its called a "continuity error" -- It happens in film and television production all the time.

Scenes are shot days apart (in this case, seasons apart) the the art & production crew throws something together for the scene. "It's close enough" is usually the train of thought of the production team - and for the majority of the viewing audience, it is. They don't really expect audience members to sit and compare frame stills, looking for this kind of detail.

yeah i'm sure that's a mistake from the CGI guys. The idea of the statue, since the second season, has evolved a lot. I guess they never were really sure about the meaning of the statue and that's why they didn't pay attention when they had to show it again, almost two seasons later...

@D1BonGo if it is an error it is minute in comparison to some HUGE continuity faults there has been throughout all of lost that said they have been pretty good in comparison to many 'Big budget' films and many other brilliant shows that are about at the moment, for example Bones is an amazing show but it is riddled with faults almost as many as in this comment gramatically! lol

I think people are looking for things that arent there this close to the end we have a good grasp on Losts direction!

In Lost, they often need to destroy old sets to make room for new ones each season. Half of the sets in the new season are rebuilt, not the exact ones from older seasons. Chances are that someone messed up while remaking the statue.
