How much energy would I waste watching this video, waiting 3 minutes for the flash website to load and downloading and installing the software? How many hours of a black pixel on do I need to break even?
In a certain town in Sweden some years ago the left over energy went to warming up the artificial soccer-field over the winter, making efforts to save energy useless. I wonder if they're still doing it...
It's a shame this principle doesn't work on LCDs. People could save so much energy by choosing black wallpapers and making websites have a black background.
The song was created specially for the job. If you'd like to have a copy of it I guess it would be necessary to write to the people who made the whole campaign. Maybe a link in the official website to download it would be just fine, wouldn't it?
ALERT: This doesn't work on LCD monitors! The backlight of LCDs is ALWAYS on - the filters determine what colour shows up but the backlight IS ALWAYS ON. This only works with CRTs, and they're dying off anyway. This is one of the worst campaigns ever. But "gm rice" is good (watch the video, it's great) :D :D
they aren't forcing u to use the thingy, just asking u to. they're protesting hurts no one, and they dont inrerrupt anyone either. Their means are peaceful, and when trying to save the planet, i'd do anything. Maybe im an asshole too.
Google posted that this would actually increase power consumption on their official blog.
Search for "Is black the new green" for the reasons.
It's due to flatscreens being the most popular type of screen now, whereas this only works for old-school cathode-ray/tube or very rare plasma displays.
Stick your hippy shit up your ass I'm going to up the brightness on my 50" plasma to compensate.

0:38 "1blackpixel=0.057W/h"
Two mistakes. 1) "W/h" no such unit. W is already "energy unit per time unit".
2) 0.057 * 1 024 * 768 = 44 826.624 So my monitor is using 44 kilowatts? Per hour? What did you smoke when you made those calculations?
