  • part 2

Another way to use WVO in your diesel car is to convert it to biodiesel. There are many resources online explaining how to do this. With any of these 3 types of alternate fuel for your diesel engine, they cannot be used when cold, not as much of a problem as with biodiesel vs WVO and SVO but biodiesel gels at a higher temp than regular diesel

  • Part 1 The way they did it in this video will kill your engine if you try it. If you are to run on waste veggie oil (WVO), it must be filtered and all water must be taken out of it. If you want to run straight veggie oil (SVO) you must just make sure there is no water. Once you have filtered oil with no water in it, you must make sure it gets to your fuel system at the consistency of diesel fuel, meaning you have to heat up the oil or your fuel system will fail because it is caked up with fat.

  • The first diesel engine ran on peanut oil...which is what most deep fryers use.

  • It's relay cool but a guy here in canada say you engine need to be warm in order to work and the oil need to be oxidize, I'v also seen a vid with top geard uk where a com. devoloped an additive to make it work strait.

  • @Raven0628 The stuff on Top Gear was just White Spirits, which is just Mineral Spirits in the US.

Essentially, veggie oil works exactly the same and from what I've heard it actually works better in most older diesels. I ran out of gas once in my 81 VW Rabbit and got some veg oil in a 10oz cup from a restaurant that was across the street and I was on my way again. I keep a bottle of used ATF fluid mixed with used(but filtered) oil in the car now in case my gauge tricks me again...

  • really you can run a diesel engine with french frie oil

  • THE BEST PART IS YOUR EXHAUST SMELLS LIKE FRENCH FRIES!! :DD

  • Am I the only one that's shocked the car even started!?

  • @chillerized Probably not. Most people have been convinced that diesel is some tricky mixture that needs to be just right. For the newer diesels that's more important, but conventional diesels will run on old engine oil, trans fluid, veggie oil, peanut oil, etc.

The only con with veg is that it can gel easily in the cold, so a Y-fitting and a separate heated tank is often used so you can switch fuels after the engine warms and then switch back 10min away from your destination.

  • They just shown how to do it yourself.

How retard do you guys have to be to think there's a conspiracy behind it?

They. showed. how. to. do. it.

STFU and enjoy while it lasts, morons!

  • "Mythbuster" I can't believe this works, what's that Mr Producer BP is one of our sponsors. I mean harmful fossil fuel that we have to get from unstable parts of the world are better yeah better.! ( seriously hating himself )

  • Mythbusters = Slaves To Big Oil..!

  • they do this episodes but they dont even research about it...

The myth was fuel economy, so the car consumption on used oil was 10% higher, so for them the myth that can be economic was busted, but they didn't spend any money for the oil, and in so many programs we see them making calculation, and in this one they didn't even made the real effective cost... so i think this episode should be myth:

are we compromise in certain way with lobby's and judgment instead of be impartial

    BUSTED

  • mythbusters are paid by governments not to stir up much hope on alternative means of energy. so don't expect better. the fact that a Mercedes Benz runs on old cooking oil to me is a good thing. i know not everyone can benefit but why throw it away?

  • for the efficient motor, check out the Shockwave Generator -

    popsci.com/cars/article/2011-03/shockwave-generating-wave-discs-could-replace-cars-internal-combustion-engines

the idea has been around since the early 1900's

  • be careful, this kind of oil tends to gumming and with the residuals in it to obstruct the fuel filter

  • It's called Forced Induction, and Direct Injection. Combine that with cooking oil for the Diesel engines, and Ethanol for gas engines... best efficiency you can get right now!

  • I like

  • i wouldnt recomend this. that oil is very dirty, and will leave lots of deposits. that will increase fuel consumption

  • @jlcyamaha Yeah they forgot to heat up the oil and add methadone and lye. thus cleaning it and keeping it from geling up...!

  • @METALMAN4Wii -- This video wasn't exactly scientific, but it is proof of concept. Of course the oil should be processed into biodiesel. I'll point out that the first diesel ever was run on raw peanut oil. The bottom line is, pretty much any oil product will burn in a diesel engine with the right processing or modifications. Keep in mind that you can't simply pull crude oil out of the ground and burn it either. It must be refined into a clean and consistent product, just like vegetable oil.

  • i guess then haven t heard of 5 stroke yet then... LOL

  • No you can not requires compression ignition like a diesel engine or a nother for a diesel engine is (compression ignition ). My uncle is a engineer on diesels and was the valve train engineer on the dodge ram cummins 5.9 litere diesel.

  • im telling you people do not put this straight in your gas tank in you live someware were it gets colder than 70*f. the oil will thicken and clog your fuel lines if you dont have a heated tank.

  • @zxsk8zx Can I use it to unleaded engine?

  • Chill out people. I considered doing this years ago but decided it wasnt worth the hassle so I use regular diesel. Its really not that expensive when you consider the alternatives.

  • @LakeErieFising I bought a car that runs on veg oil and avoided the hassle and bought well filtered oil for half the price of diesel from someone else. Run's sweet either way and since it's an older diesel, I'm not as worried about the sensitivities of the injector system that more modern diesels may suffer from. On the other hand if you get the veg oil cheap enough or free, the money you may save on fuel may pay for the accelerated wear on an injection pump.

  • not even close to being busted!

  • With great success, the mythbusters (the media) wrongly claimed that it's "busted!!!???. Believe your eyes and not what you are told! To add much more power to Biodiesel, use the Maynex hydrogen generator, which turns dirty water into gas without the need of an external power source.

  • theres no way its busted!!!! the police use special cameras in ireland and the uk to check the fumes from the exhaust, as we use it in our cars and its ILLEGAL!!!!! so much for self suffiency!!!

  • Doing this for 7 years. You must add heat from electricity and/or the cooling system to bring the fuel temperature up to about 155° that is lower the flash point so the vegetable oil burns easier and doesn't coke the rings.Cold vegetable oil in a hot engine is bad.Again while it will work for a while over long periods you will ruin the engine. My mods are coolant & electric inline fuel heaters.Restaurants pay for oil collection.Do yourself a favor and them.Collect your own fuel. Free Fuel Forever.

  • I was watching Mythbusters today & apparently one of their sponsors is ConocoPhillips 76 promoting a "greener" petrol fuel. Wake up people, please don't act so stupid to think money doesn't control every aspect of our human existence. The producers were told by their sponsors to say it's busted or they wouldn't be reestablishing their contracts. Just like the moon landing episode. Do you really think two dudes on Discovery channel would be allowed to say the moon landing was a fake? Nope.

  • its not busted. they must have deliberatly busted it to stop cooking oil befoming the new diesel fuel! I heard about someone who used the same stuff and it worked!

  • no way that is busted. shows their real agenda.

  • Seems some people take it seriously now: bit dot ly /sbSYhM

  • whats the myth... a diesel engine is made to run off of left over oils... diesel fuel was produced to run diesel engine.. the name diesel comes from the inventer of the diesel cycle

  • If I'm not mistaken, the diesel engine was originally designed to run on peanut oil.

  • the way to make ur engine super efficient? they already hit it and didnt even know, it took over 100 years for us to realize that the engines we run all the time

are multi fuel engines already... trying to promote this truth is like smashing

someone over the head with a shovel.

  • Click on Movies / Documentaries and select "Fuel" - great watch for free! All about Biodiesel and how it could be the fuel of the future, if wastewater treament plants started producing the correct algaes to make fuel production viable... and whatnot... worth the watch

  • The only thing "busted" is the OIL industry!!! They've been hiding the facts on biofuels (and paying off governments to protect their interests) for years so as to keep gouging the average (uninformed, naive, trusting) consumer. They've done it for over a century. First they "killed" Rudolf Diesel just as he was promoting the biodiesel run diesel engine. Then they stomped out Henry Ford's ethanol car by introducing Prohibition (which was lifted the year after Ford quite making that model).

  • these are the same morons who think Chemtrails are contrails

  • This myth is busted because of the economics of biodiesel. Even the mythbusters found that just filtering the used oil was time consuming. Not to mention the other chemicals contained in the cooking oil needing to be removed to prevent engine damage. Long story short, if a gas company figured out how to make this for cheaper than gas, and sell it for less than gas, they would because it would allow them to economically rape every other company on the planet. The end.

  • even fish oil works i think

  • Yeah used cooking oil CAN be used in almost any diesel engine. However it is not really recommend unless you remove the glycerin from it, glycerin can clog the injector pump and fuel injectors. You need to add a chemical to separate the glycerin. Then you should add mineral spirits to the oil to help it burn more efficiently.

  • @jamiedodd1991 The Maynex hydrogen generator, which turn dirty water or any liquid into gas, will make any vehicle run on cooking oil without the need of mineral spirits.

  • The only problem i have with this myth is that i don't know what was the myth?

  • @coolkid359 I think it was oil companys keeping non oil products off the market or something like that.

I haven't seen this episode and you know the video was edited all to hell.

  • @coolkid359

    The myth is a myth!!!

  • To those saying "how is this busted?" - both Jamie and Adam make some very valid points at the end of the video. If veggy oil as a fuel became widespread practice then it'd be impossible to source oil for free - an economy would form like any other. No to mention that there aren't enough restaurants using enough oil for all diesel users in the area. I run my car on veggy oil but I don't promote how it's done simply because I want the oil for myself.

  • @turners1 In New york and other places it's impossible for the little guy to get free used oil. because these big bio diesel companies collect them from restaurants and some even pay them. but still fossil fuel is destroying this planet so if that means we have to buy bio diesel so be it. also what you can do is tell people you'll take there used frying oil from them deep frying a turkey for thanksgiving you'll be surprised how much you'll get....!

  • yea, it's almost as if THEY'VE been bought, too!

  • @RREDDELL: It clearly said at the end that the actual myth was: "the oil companies are colluding to screw us". Apart from the fact the other devices they've tested like super-efficient carburetors were totally busted, they say if this oil was "made public" and be used by the majority, it would have an increased cost and therefore it would be just as useful to use regular gas. And so the myth of the oil companies colluding is busted according to them.

  • @Kamaly0 Made public? Anyone can buy it now.

In case someone does not understand the word: ec·o·nom·i·cal /ˌɛkəˈnɑ:mɪkəl/ adjective

    [more economical; most economical] ]

2 — used to describe a product that is not expensive to own and use

So, even buying this used oil from a restaurant and filtering at a cost of $1 per gallon IS A LOT MORE "ECONOMICAL" than $4 per gallon Dino fuel. I do not filter my own, I buy my WVO decanted/filtered 4 times and pay $2 per gallon right now.

  • i love that Mercedes

  • doesn't scale up too replace all the work done by the internal combustion engine, same problem with all the other alternate energy sources. Cant scale up to the levels required. There is used vegetable oil out there, but nowhere near enough for everybody.

  • You should really clean the oil better than any filter can by using a centrifuge. A good centrifuge will also clean the oil much quicker. I have a practical book titled "Alternative Energy Secrets" that you should check out it you want to do this type of thing safely. Having to replace your injectors or and other engine parts will wipe out your savings. Check out my videos.

  • I run on Veg oil, and have for about 200,000 km. It's not a myth that veg is economical, it's a fact. After driving nearly coast to coast on WVO and paying less than $100 in fuel filters, I can say by experience it works.

To get good longevity and economy out of veg. oil is to heat the oil up before it gets to the engine. Myth busters did not heat the oil. So sure it runs, but not as efficiently as it could. Veg has less BTUs, but also has a higher Cetane rating, making up the difference.

  • The REAL myth is that you can NOT put straight WVO (Waste Vegetable Oil) into most diesel vehicles without modfication. It's one thing to run 1L of WVO in an old MB. Just try to do that in any modern diesel vehicle for even a single full tank.

    Disaster.

  • I believe they were testing if vegetable oil would provide better economy in a diesel engine.

Diesel gasoline will get the best MPG

Vegetable oil is free and good for the environment,so who gives a damn what the engine economy is?

  • they busted it because the fuel companies (shell etc,) don't want us to know it can run on cooking !

  • I just lost respect for Jamie and Adam.... did they along with the Discovery channel get kickbacks from big oil or something??? How in the HELL is this busted?!?! What the fuck am I missing here???

  • I was just going to comment on the first 30 second when I see the exact same comment as #1. YES!

"Rudolf Diesel was interested in using coal dust or vegetable oil as fuel, and his engine, in fact, was run on peanut oil." In the 1800's !!!

"THE NEXT BIG THING!!!" HAHA!!! What?! We are just a pawn in the governments aka corporations giant game. It's just sad; something that was invented for a specific purpose 100 years ago is just now getting attention!

  • how is i busted?? it runs 10% less efficient so what still runs great....

  • @NightmareCrab There tools for the Oil companies but at least they proved it works. also there wrong about straight up veg oil it has to be mixed with methanol and Lye otherwise it could jell up ? I watched the movie Fuel on Nextflix about 50 times is how I know...!

  • So there's this car that runs on water...

  • a lot of fast food corporations are already using cooking oil to fuel their delivery trucks

  • Fry oil is not thrown away, it is recycled.

  • It is only can work on Mercedes because that engine will eat enithing, belive me i have one.

  • American Renewable Fuel We collect UCO and sell Bio diesel.

    Check us out

  • WOW!!

  • Also if you plan to keep on using veg oil, you have a few more years to enjoy it because, in the newer BluTech vehicles vegetable oil will seriously fuck up your engine beyond repair.

  • I have run my car on WVO for years and found the economy about the same as on diesel fuel but as WVO is cheaper to buy it works out better.

Dont forget the diesel engine was designed to run on vegetable oil and never intended to run on diesel fuel.

  • @sard37 problem is, nowadays they are. Common rail cant run wvo, certain IP's have seals that wvo will perish, cold oil is too thick to burn completely so can leave deposits on the bores which can gum up or worse still, run past the rings and polymerise the engine oil over time.... best bet for wvo is a 90's tdi with heat exchanger on a twin tank setup, or mixing diesel and veg on a 50/50 ratio. I get wvo free and have run a few cars successfully on it, but there are pitfalls for the unwary.

  • @chinapig71 yes all you say is true, there are so many variables but if you have the right vehicle and a warm enviroment its easy lol

I live in the UK and as such had to mix derv and WVO in the winter but apart from taking a bit longer to start i had no real problems.

A friend of mine has a new diesel volvo, he asked the dealer if he can run it on WVO and they said yes lol

  • Wow I'm shocked how many people don't know that the diesel engine was designed to run on peanut oil. Also to those who say veggie oil doesn't lubricate the engine your flat wrong Bio-diesel and straight veggie oil provide more lubrication then high sulfur dino fuel. There is a slight drop in fuel economy do to a slightly lower energy content then dino diesel.

  • yeah but cooking oil does not have the proper lubrication that your lift pump needs. look you can run that car on

    1. hydralic oil

    2. burnt motor oil

    3. Grease.

    4. Karoseen

    5. Off road disel wich 15rppms are off which causes knocking.

but DIESEL 1 and DIESEL 2 has the proper lubrication your pump needs

  • @aaronpourazar The new low sulfur Diesel has less lubrication than WVO.

  • A diesel should be able to detect what type of fuel it runs and adjust timings and nozzle. It should have variable valve timing, not like Honda in two steps, real one like Porsche. And variable transmission. Then you can begin to see some economy. In that car you are wasting cooking oil.

  • i use same car. but also have a filter and heater to run this. yes i get mine for free too

  • add a little non-kerosene based white spirit to it...

  • These two clowns are TV entertainers, not scientists. All they proved is that this car will move around a test track on used vegetable oil. In the real world, your car requires more from fuel than just doing circles on a flat track. Remember, they won't pay for the repair bills for your car.

  • what about a 92 nissan d21 pickup with 4 cylinders

  • How is this busted?

  • @RREDDELL The myth was that oils would run better than diesel, which they didn't. They still work, but aren't any better in mileage than the diesel, so the myth was busted.

  • @Awshbuscus It reads "As Economical as Diesel" not better. I run WVO oil in a 2000 Jetta. It cost me approx $1 per gallon after it is all filtered and ready to burn. Even if I get 70% less MPG it would still be more economical. But I get around 50 MPG with the WVO, the same as Diesel.

  • @RREDDELL it's busted because they thought veg oil makes the engine more efficient. it's actually 10% less efficient.

  • @RREDDELL They know it works however they were looking if a diesel engine is more or less economical then a veg oil one. The veg oil one is less economical so it was busted.

  • @RREDDELL I think the myth was that the filtered used cooking oil improves mileage.

  • @RREDDELL becouse its for wich alternative fuel is AS economacal as diesel but there is a 10% drop in mileage

  • @RREDDELL

    Because of the efficiency

  • @RREDDELL I know..... !!!

  • @RREDDELL it says "Cooking Oil as Economical Diesel Fuel ." They found out in the end it wasn't "economical," not if it could run on vegetable oil or not.

  • A diesel that does less than 40 MPG??? Pathetic...

  • @DarkBrute An old S-Klasse...

  • 240p we meet again

  • add methanol to remove the glycerin from the oil.

  • @myguitardidyermom12 methanol is for making bio, a different animal than wvo and its not as simple as just mixing. You need NaOH also and it must be heated to set up a chemical reaction- it's called transesterification. I believe it also needs washed afterwards and the quantity of chemicals used must be calculated by titration

  • For a diesel engine with injectors you only need to preheat the oil to lower the viscosity.

  • @Zundapp9 all diesel engines have injectors...they have to

  • hmmm working at a fast food restraunt not looking so bad anymore

  • THERE is no MYTH, most diesel vehicles can be used, on used cooking oil & any vegetable oil.

Best way way of being more self sufficient.

  • So you could use cooking oil for COOKING, FUEL and ENIGNE OIL?

  • @emmettebrown the first 2 probably not as engine oil. engine oil isnt exactly just like lube! it has to be made for a specific heat range! too hot and the molecules break down too cold and it doesnt become fluidic enough!

bottom line is the engine would burn up the cooking oil and probably varnish itself with it and then suffer a catastrophic failure in the sense of a massive bang! just use it as fuel and use actual engine oil for your engine!

  • You can't use that crap in regular diesel engine. Yes engine runs with it but carbon builds up fast inside injectors and behind glowplugs. After filtering a mixture of Methanol(20%) and Potassium Hydroxide(7gram per litre) must be added to the warm oil then stirred then left overnight so the grease sinks to the bottom & then you can use it in the car.Beware because vegi oil will remove the gas-tank protective layer & sends it through tank strainer & gets the strainer & primary filter clogged up.

  • @Hesam0000 My grandfather had a 1983 Mercedes 200D. He's used CLEAN vegetable oil as fuel for I don't know... Like 8 years? Car required just a regular maintenance.

  • @PS2Gameplays Car runs with vegetable oil but it ruins the inside of injectors and cylinders because carbon builds up and slowly blocks the injectors. This is how Wiki describes it: "the viscosity of vegetable oil must be lowered to allow for proper atomization of the fuel, otherwise incomplete combustion and carbon build up will ultimately damage the engine".

That carbon buildup is called "injector Coking" , veg. oil also causes piston-ring sticking and also wipes tank's protective layer.

  • @Hesam0000 Like I said, a properly maintenanced car can run on this for a long time.

  • @PS2Gameplays And like I said "The inside of cylinders will get screwed and you'll loose rings, injectors and performance but you won't see it unless you take an injector out and stick the carbon-cleaning tool" so if it's a cheap $1000 car like 240D who cares but if it's a $50,000 GL 320 CDI then I wouldn't do it.

  • not a practical solution unless its cheaper to buy and supply is abundant...

  • um wasn't the ORIGINAL diesle engine designed to run on penut oil?

  • @drogoKoJ Yes it was, and I just got with a mom and pop place and now save $105 a month on fuel for my F-250. It really is awesome!!

  • @drogoKoJ yep it was .. it didnt need to get great fuel milage. it was easy to make.. i have a 1985 bio diesel . it really needs to be called a multiefuel. it burns all oils. new or used. no mods needed. it only gets 14 to a gallon. but thats ok. . diesel was natrual oil burners until the power puke came out in 95. i hate the new diesels.

  • @drogoKoJ

    Yeah

  • @drogoKoJ I believe it was ment to run on coal dust.

  • @drogoKoJ Well actually Rudolf Diesel designed the diesel engine to run on cannabis oil :) still veggie oil though. Its a weedeater!

  • @drogoKoJ Indeed it was. Roudoph Diesel was a pretty clever guy.

  • @drogoKoJ it was

  • @drogoKoJ yes. yes it was.

  • @drogoKoJ Rudolph Diesel was quoted saying that eventually you will be able to use oil extracted from wood chips to run the (diesel) motor. And that was back in the early 1900's when he firsy built them.

  • @drogoKoJ and yes the first diesel engine was run on peanut oil. He was also interested in using coal dust and vegetable oil.

  • @drogoKoJ yeah unfortunately Rudolph Diesel died on the boat ride he took to unveil his engine to the world at the worlds fair. I somehow believe that if there were a more efficient engine we would not know about it

  • @drogoKoJ YUP :)

  • @MrEnergyConspiracy Geet will do the same thing!

  • that won't work on any old car.

the merc 220's have bosch inline injector pumps...generally speaking rotary ones such as cav's dont like running on veggy oil.but anyway it's usually illegal driving cars on oil ...and it wears your engine out faster ,the best thing is to make a mix of 80%oil and 20% diesel.the colder it gets the more diesel yçu have to add otherwise the oil sets...

  • @metamaggot illegal driving cars on oil ???

  • @901Jetta in france yes.

  • @metamaggot That's just not right it should ok to use.

  • @901Jetta it's because you don't pay tax on it....

  • @metamaggot Are you in france or Iraq??

  • @901Jetta why do you ask?

  • @metamaggot Whell you say your in france and on your site you show iraq.

  • @901Jetta hehe this is an account i use for trolling usually...so all information on it is fake...i am in france..

  • @901Jetta yep only way to fly ..lol

  • DO NOT try this on a diesel engine with electronic injection!!!

  • @markus24q

why ? give us more info about electronic injection and homemade biodiesel

  • @LordLab dunno why, but ive tried cooking oil in a late model nissan diesel engine. Warning lights lit up and the engine ran very poorly. My old 1980s forklift and fiat tractor, however, love cooking oil. I have also seen non-homemade biodiesel destroy common rail injectors in an Iveco truck which caused 1000s of dollars worth of damage when left for a few weeks. The newer equipment is quite sensitive and shouldnt be messed around with just to save a buck or two. It costs more in the long run

  • @markus24q thats because the newer diesels have tateltail computers on them. it will tell the system that the fuel is bad and shut down. the older diesels dont have these junk systems. not only will they run other oil but they may run better.lol

  • @markus24q

This cooking oil fuel is a lot more viscus than normal diesel fuel. Common rail runs on up to 11000 PSI VS 4000PSI for a normal Diesel engine, which will of course lead to serious problems when run on the viscous Bio-diesel

  • Not sure if it's the same thing, but here in Norway we use biodiesel in our busses.

  • Used cooking oil should certainly be collected and recycled in this way, but all the cooking oil in the economy isn't going to power 1% of the vehicle miles and the economies aren't going to be there (same as with ethanol) as soon as you're not depending on an existing waste product.

  • biodiesel looks like a much better option than ethanol because it contains 90% efficiency like regular diesel. in comparison, ethanol only has 75% efficiency.

  • @eastern2western - Used cooking oil should certainly be collected and recycled in this way, but all the cooking oil in the economy isn't going to power 1% of the vehicle miles and the economies aren't going to be there (same as with ethanol) as soon as you're not depending on an existing waste product.

  • @edreactor the question is always input versus output. if the input energy is more than the output, then there is no pt of converting it because energy input is from diesel.

  • They are talking about ways to make engines crazy super efficient. It is call forced induction with a supercooled inlet charge and a really cold block.

  • Funny how they said this myth was busted....hmmmm cant tell the mass sheeple it works...who is control of what we watch!

  • What season and episode of Mythbusters is this from?

  • dont use it on a common rail diesel the fuel rail will explode

  • This isn't really recommended for Volkswagen Pumpe Düse (PD) engines. The injectors really don't like it. You can apparently get away with running mixtures of Diesel and Veg Oil though.

  • They really ought to mention that you can only do that with certain diesel engines.

  • they did have to bleed the fuel pipe as it is diesel? ok they did not that means there was some diesel left in the engine when they did the run with the oil. They say that it is busted as it is not efficient. or as adam says not getting ultra high milage of those. well instead of putting in litre measure of fuel they should have put in dollar worth like $2 or $5 and see what runs for more longer

  • they had to say this cause its main stream tv. Biofuel is obviously amazing. I like how they are so suspicious about if it will work when the original cars that Ford made ran on fuel made from the hemp plant. (search hemp car ford for more) The hemp seed is 30% oil and can be turned easily into fuel. Also wont smell like used kitchen oil.

We should plant acres of hemp to turn into biofuel instead of drilling, spilling and polluting with oil.

  • so were does it go.........where you put gas or where you put oil??

  • Great little experiment! Thanks for the clip. I guess the big thing is simply to have lower costs. I've always had a problem with diesel because even modern ones are still noisy and don't drive well, petrol cars always feel better. I also have a problem because diesel gives out a lot more pollution on a local level and real nasty stuff too that causes cancer and other disease. I wonder how better the mpg would be with new not used cooking oil + solvent and also if it really would be cleaner?

  • There's a number of home refineries available that process the oil, add the necessary solvent (none kerosene based) and the missing 10% power returns. In the UK there is a tax free allowance on "home made" diesel. You can refine 2500 litres (approx 550 gallons) without paying ANY TAX.

  • busted?? who cares about mpg when it's a free gallon??

  • FOR REAL IT'S FREE!

  • Look under the hood after continual use of the oil. Take the engine apart... How clean is it?....

  • @brentthecrass Often, just as good or better than it was with regular diesel.

WVO can however make seals in the fuel pump harden and begin to leak faster, but this can take years.

  • Google the guy's name , "Bob Teixeira" and "bumper sticker", for the full story. Apparently he needed a North Caroline state fuel license, so maybe it varies by state.. The article said it was the feds who busted him and gave him a $1,000 state fine.

  • "BUSTED" is what will happen when you get caught driving with fuel that hasn't had a gas tax paid on it. Notice that they drove at a private driving range. If they had been on a public road they would have been guilty of committing a crime. I'm not making this up. An RV vehicle had a bumper sticker that said "Powered by 100% Vegetable Oil." They were pulled over and "busted." These guys also omitted any analysis on what dirty oil might do to the engine. It's got to have some extra wear.

  • @yaesukita I live in PA. I filled out a form so I can pay road tax on the WVO I use. The state called me and said that as long as I wasn't a distributor I did NOT need to pay road tax, therefore in PA, at least, it IS legal to use WVO without paying road tax as long as you aren't distributing any oil.

  • One has to think how crafty the Oil Cartel really is. If the wanted to test a fuel MPG extender why bring in a fuel source that was NEVER posed as a fuel enhancer but rather as an alternative fuel. Theirs are a million to choose from but NOT ONE at the auto parts store will replace the Diesel at the fuel pump, but one! WVO, SVO, VO, etc... Funny why this was chosen for the test... It's a con. Just as Mythbusters jet fuel con on steel to prove the Jets brought down the twin towers on 9-11...

  • It's busted because of mpg? ROFL ok... so the wvo got a little less fuel mileage so you call that a bust? Not to mention the car does run just fine on wvo... ok thanks for your expert opinion...

  • @diesel4less The bust was for free fuel/super mpg devices/tricks. They said none of the devices or tricks they tested worked, *except for the wvo.* Their only issue with wvo was that if demand increased, people would start charging for it, and the fuel cost savings would start to dwindle as the price went up. They did say it worked just fine, and everybody who uses wvo already knows there's a bit less energy per gallon in wvo than diesel, and 10% is close to that difference. No news there.

  • BioDiesel is possibly one of the best things you can put in your engine, there B5 B20 and B100 BioDiesel. B100 - 100% Used Vegetable oil (or whatever source of Biodiesel used). It cleans the engines, it reduces emissions, and it saves you a TON of money. You might have to change your fuel pump a lil sooner, and water separator, and have to mix some sodium hydroxide in the solution, but its worth it in the end

  • is top stuff till ya have to rebuild your injector pump because the bores are score = big dollars
