@WhosQDizzle curly hair can come close, it will just take your hair longer, especially if you are looking for your hair to approximate locs. It's not that you should ignore the negativity just know what to expect, and that is a long time before your hair will matt up. This is just one of those times where your hair has to be a nappy texture there just isn't any way around it, i suppose the ones who tell you not to get dreads are just hating on your attempt not necessarily saying you can't

It made me feel like all of the sideways looks and comments I received when i started my locs weren't tolerated in vain...then to read the comments and the foolishness for lack of better terms that was going on was kinda disappointing, but not to dwell in the negative.
